I've just read @Timothy M.'s recommendation and I wholeheartedly agree with him. It is a great and involving read. The writing draws you in and keeps you hooked, no matter that there's not much action, and only two main characters. Can't promise that I'm going to read the other recommendations 'cause I actually read very little ...

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I always like a protagonist with plenty going on in his head. Yes, nothing much happens until the conclusion, but that's fine, and the writing's so good that my interest didn't slacken at all.

Eric got up out of his chair slowly. His arthritis was bad again because of a cold, damp, dreary November day, but he couldn't afford to have the heating on all the time. He shuffled into the kitchen to make a cup of tea to warm himself up. While he was waiting for the water to boil, he looked at the array of pill bottles and blister packs on the countertop. @droughtquake it's amazing how much you can glean from other people's behaviour. Just watching two people together can often tell you whether they're a couple or not. So Geoff can be excused for being his usual nervous self.

It had been a nerve-shredding week. Geoff was glad it was the weekend. What with the build-up to his job interview, and the news about Tony's ex, he was feeling both tired out and on edge. He was loading his car with what appeared to be every percussion instrument he possessed. Fortunately the weather was dry, although rain was forecast later. Reading this story ten years after it was written, in no way diminishes its power. Yes, things have moved on, but politics, if anything, hasn't. Powerful, moving use of writing in the second person. Something I have yet to attempt. Thank you.

@jfalkon I'm glad you enjoyed the story. The Green man is a north-european legend in origin. The trees aren't evil or violent, but nature spirits or gods aren't like that necessarily. Similarly perhaps, the people who follow them.

I've still to see the light, Carlos ... , but I do recognise this statement. For me, it's not a cure for depression; more, a creative outlet which I never knew I wanted or needed. It gives me immense satisfaction - in the imagining, the writing, and the posting. I hope you have a wonderful, fulfilling 2018, continuing to create the story which has so many, dedicated fans (just not me ... yet ... ).
