Mark, it may be only my impression, but I sense from what you have written that Granger is growing and becoming more mature and rightly confident as he has taken on new challenges and accomplished great feats. He has to have learned from his service in the Baltic sinking or destroying 5 ships and surviving the first Czar and wisely advising the second one. Admiral Nelson valued him and helped him with a new command. Many in his new ship looked at him with great admiration. He is not dismayed by some who are not enthusiastic about his ideas or command. He knows he can take actions to improve the status and fighting ability of his ship. If the new ambassador to Russia listens to him, he will find a well informed and smart adviser who will help him better do his job. Granger is able to do things effectively that few others can. He can be a good diplomat, loyal friend, fighting captain and leader of men who achieves uncommonly positive results. It is anachronistic, however, a military officer today with Grangers successful diversified service would be seen as being properly groomed for higher command and promotion. Tradition and waiting your turn could slow Granger down, but he should have some royal sponsors who want to help him move faster after he hopefully survives St, Vincent's requirements.

I think when Granger gets fully immersed into his ship and he runs it with his standards and knows his officers' strength better, then he is on the way to be much happier. He is ready to make changes. The ship may need improved sail handling and gun drill as it is turned into a warship from its former status. Granger opined when analyzing the previous captain's approach to the Calliope: " It seemed that Smythe had viewed it almost as a luxury yacht and had given preference to comfort and appearance over fighting ability." Granger will see the Calliope turned fully into a fighting ship. Plus another indication of his improved mental attitude will be us finding out Granger is exercising his powerful libido. I do not think I have read a supernatural story where all types of being lived side by side in harmony. But, others might know of ones. I like the concept. You will need a conflict and maybe rogue bad guys for the good beings to fight and win. It is reminiscent of the approach of an alternate universe Twilight Story . Although, that series might have an astronaut land on a planet amazed by such a society BTW, do not forget to add dragons if you want to add fantasy. Dancing with The Dragons in Nifty is a bit like this approach.

George Granger took over the Calliope with speed and with decisiveness. He established his leadership and showed with credibility that he knew what he was talking about. He had commanded a similar ship. His officers now know he expects to be followed and quickly. He told them they have just had their breaking in period and any shortfalls now will be noticed He is analyzing the officers and men. He likes the men and their attitude, and his musical/dance contest was well received. Moving the First Lieutenant to another ship was a good stroke that will ease tension. However, the Master is crossing swords with Granger and is going to get into trouble unless he follows Granger's orders and plans. Granger had a troubling Master before and will not accept another one. The Master has been warned. Granger's solutions are going to be right and the Master will find that out unless he does not learn the right lessons. Granger is going to need to reinforce his ideas on discipline. This ship flogs and Ganger sees that as a last resort. He has other very unpleasant duties in mind for sailors who get into trouble.. Wait till the officers and men are told about his ideas on cleanliness and weekly deck washings. George will be spending time seeing how well the ship is trained for combat with sail and gun drills giving him evidence. He know from his past similar frigate command what times he should expect when the ship is operating at its best. I hope St Helens joined Daventry for the evening meal. They can finish off any talk about Russia. He will like the painting and knowledge that the Stroganov family can be trusted advisers. I think George is going to get fully involved in the challenges of his new command and his depression will waste away for now.

Wow--what a traumatic, deep-seated disaster. No wonder George is messed up. His stepfather was so cruel and sick. He could not stay at his home. Dave told Stacy who then kept calm and showed she is well adapting to supernaturals. Heather unfortunately operates within a dysfunctional coven at Mesker Park. We learned about vampires and the way the live and act with others in the story universe and why her coven has broken the rules.. Heather feels unsafe and is offered sanctuary on this pack. Heather is staying with Tierney and Dirk in Owensville. They have accepted her and will protect her. Dave has contacted the Alphas of Mesker Park about the coven, Remis is not pleased and will have to investigate and handle the matter when he gets back from the big alpha meeting. Except for the repeated chapter, the write up revealed that the day was pleasant and a change of pace with a slower time caused by young girls being tour guides and fellow meal patrons. It happens. Good Chapter ! It so enjoyable to be around Jay and Loren. They are interesting, loving guys who are getting better at talking to each other and understanding each other. Things that could have upset each other or started an argument are not now consequential--people come and go, crowds fill a house, a loving child ignores them like old news, bringing up double standards, career priorities, etc. They still have to be in agreement about the future, but that seems no longer terrible or foreboding They hint at marriage and are not shocked. Jay seems very comfortable around Loren's online lifestyle. I am surprised Loren did not add Jay at least a bit in his next 6 month plan. Loren's ratings went up when Jay was added. Jay has a decision to make in 2 years on his contract--maybe his last one before he ages out. What will he do after football? Can he be part of Loren's online life or will he start his own business? Loren looks like he can go on doing for a long time what he loves forever with a huge fan base, lots of products to endorse and a team to encourage, fund and enjoy. At some point even Loren could age out and before then be no longer the top star ? He will have his own career changes. But, then even aging rock star performers adapt and play state fairs and Reno and Native American casinos. I wonder what Jay has in mind for the training camp? With Loren there, they both could have lots of hot sex--just saying......

But, George's actions bring up a parallel situation with Karl. Karl was a lost child who need friends and a home. George sees good in her and reads to her. His gift of a rabbit touched her deeply. George was being very kind and Rosemary likes him. Paul suggest George reconcile with George who is now in a dangerous role. Finally, George explains he did not like Karl that much and that any relationship he had with Karl was not approved. Paul does not believe him and his looks convey his point. George denies Paul's viewpoints about Karl. George responds saying he was OK with them since his parents were and George would be better off serving in the military facing death knowing George had not rejected him. George once again runs away and lets his worries fester. I hope George continues to think about his compassion to Rosemary and his relationship with Karl. He needs to heal their wounds if not for his well-being. Just continuing to being around Rosmary might spur him to reconsider and approach Karl. Something new has to enter the situation to push George in the right direction. The innocence of a child speaking her mind might be one way to help George
