Peanut Butter Terry hated peanut butter. The one time he'd been forced to eat some on a sandwich when he was about four years old, he'd heaved and heaved before throwing up all over the dining room table. I do understand your views @Cane23. All I can offer by way of explanation is the fact that Josh felt completely alone and unloved. Forced to live with his grandpa who evidently didn't care for him, having dumped and cut off his only true friend and now betrayed by the person he thought had befriended him while raising his status at school. He had nobody to turn to so he kept silence over what had happened. And to him, would what he said be believed?

I am very sorry that the story has affected you in that way. In my defence I would point out that on the actual story page it does show the rape tag, so there was a warning to potential readers.

One would hope such things don't happen, but sadly they do - even today, although the odds are much better that the perpetrator would be caught.

In my mind this story was set in times before DNA testing became common, especially in smaller locations. Plus Josh's total reluctance to admit what had happened to his Grandfather. Am pleased though that apart, the story worked for you.

Yes, Josh was naive, but without Ethan around he fell for Brett's charm offensive. He's very lucky that Ethan loves him so much he is prepared to forgive Josh for being dumped, and overlook what Brett did to him.

I'm sure it didn't make for comfortable reading. Brett should have to pay for his actions, but I think in that environment it would be hard to prove what happened. Grandpa would probably argue that Josh got what he deserved... The idea of Grandpa's body being consumed by vermin does have appeal - the biter bit, or something like that. Glad you enjoyed it @Headstall
