  4. I buy one in a different colour every couple of years in the sales! I never pay full price for clothes. Tomorrow I’ve been invited, with others, back to our old school where we taught/worked. I must cut a dash!
  5. At university in London, (KCL) I was taught almost entirely by women. They were the first real wave of amazing female teachers who broke through the glass ceiling. Terrifying, challenging, amazingly supportive, they taught me how to think and how to write. I was so lucky and privileged.
  6. Can you believe it? Now 82°F /28°C. On Monday I was wearing socks (Urgh), scarf indoors, and a cashmere sweater. Now beachwear required!
  7. Am in shock! I’ve been merrily catching up on chps, with increasing pleasure, and went to click on ‘next chapter ‘. Where is it? Who has robbed me of the next installments…. Serióusly, I am enjoying this story v much indeed. Thank you Robert.
  8. Mine is year-long. My “wonderful” local dr told me yesterday to get used to sounding like a duck as I speak as there was not real cure for acute permanent sinusitis…. Such a caring person…NOT. And tomorrow she sees Paco. Mutual hate. I’m paying 130€ on Monday to go private.

    Chapter 1

Thank you v much! Am so enjoying your naval story as I catch up. 🤗
  10. Yes! I may have to report you…… 🤗
  11. Thank you for your support! If anyone else fancies a trip back in time to 1982…..
  12. Hi, we are alive and kicking, thank you. We live on the n side which is v well protected. Still, it was two days of solid rain, red alert, shops and schools closed etc. It was 11 months to the day since last year’s tragic floods, so many people were v nervous. The evil pupsters do not care for rain….. 😱
  13. Such a good chp. I was a bit unsure about this story at the start but now I really am enjoying catching up. These guys give the “Essex Boys” a run for their money. Having taken all summer to finish a 5,000 word story, I am in awe of your talent and productivity. (Okay, let’s be honest @Robert Hugill, I’m green with envy.

Thank you so much. I really value your opinion. Much of this is true for good or bad. Hugs, my friend x

    Chapter 1

    Sadly, yes.
  16. We all face a journey to find ourselves, our truth. Some get there early, others can never face the truth, and then there are those like him. The one on the edge of the dance floor, in the corner of the bar, watching, waiting, hoping. This is Jack's first story. Set in 1982 in a British university town.
  17. The Coven “God, what a dump,” he thought to himself. And he wasn’t far off with that verdict. From the outside, the ‘club’ looked disconcertingly like his old Scout hut from school. In fact, the more he looked the more convinced he was that the building must have once been used for such a purpose. He glanced to one side. Yes, the walls were made of timber. Did he even want to be seen in such a place? Well yes, he supposed. That was the whole purpose of turning up here after all, on a mis
  18. A fascinating combination of chess developments and human relationships. Unique.

    Cottage

Finally, got up to date and am already craving for more. I love the intertwining of a classic murder mystery with the developing relationship between our two main characters - can we call Kilroy a hero? Great stuff!
  20. I felt transported back to the Essex coastline which I last visited in the early nineties… such evocative language. A beautiful chapter, @Robert Hugill. Thank you
  21. I’m still trying to finish my entry for the secret author event….. I’m hopeless..
  22. Not everyone has your talent!
  23. Are you trying to give @Valkyrie and her elves a heart attack?!?!?!
  24. Holiday was WONDERFUL. The wiener dogs were well-behaved and it appears that the French love them. So many people stopped to greet them. Lilibeth was in heaven. now stormy. Schools closed tomorrow…. I might even get some writing done.🤞
  25. Only a few days ago we crossed and recrossed the enormously wide Rhône as it passed through Avignon. Holiday over: 5,000 km in a Peugeot 208 with Paco and the monsters, plus by the end 13 suitcases, rucksacks, and plastic bags and plastic bags and plastic bags. Now exhausted but ready for the severe weather which hits Valencia at 04.00. Went on to terrace. It’s 35° C, brilliant sunshine ahead…. And behind the clouds are gathering over the mountains…. Just seen Ryder Cup golf scores. No comment, of course, here……
