Juan groaned half-silently as the harsh bell on the old alarm clock rang out in his dark and spartan bedroom. No snoose facility was available, and anyway, Mother would have a few things to add to her ever-increasing list of his inadequacies if he thought he could get away with a lie-in one day a week. “The devil makes trouble for idle hands.”, was one of her refrains, to be supplemented by pointed case studies of those who had indeed had idle hands and who had fallen by the wayside.
Today
But we need to be aware of what Churchill said of uk and usa - two nations separated by a common language… My (American) Latin teacher used to scream, literally, at his fellow citizens, “You guys don’t know what a past perfect is. How can you learn Latin?” His grades indicated they couldn’t…. But spelling variations are another matter and we just have to be consistent.
BTW his hobby was to translate the overseas Times Herald Tribute into Latin each day. He was the guy who invented new Latin words for the 20th century inventions, and finally, he once got away with starting an official translation of a papal document thus: “Once upon a time…..” No bigwig noticed. Father Reggie was unique!
Before the good @Summerabbacat asks, this is a totally new one for me! Great ideas planned out for the future. No pressure, of course, but sometimes writers do have to make sacrifices for their avid fans….. so @Robert Hugill, celebrate Christmas well, but wisely…. Your Australian fans and others are v demanding! 😥
I love her!!!!! My then 83 yr old mum had some choice words to describe my bosses who removed me as a director of one of our schools whilst I was on sick leave. God did she use words I’d never heard from her!!! When I retired in June I received a nasty looking watch. I exchanged it for luxury towels. Now when I dry parts of my body I remember them!!!
Okay, @Dodger, I was walking my puppies yesterday and thought of your loss and began to reflect on the wonderful saga you’ve been writing. And lo and behold, today a mega chapter. Spooky 👻
Yep! Retired and celebrating 4 days with no opiate medicines (prescribed by medics) since 1978. Unreal. But hellish. Have a short story almost finished set in the Pyrenees. Nothing to set the world on fire! Un abrazo 🤗
It feels like we’ve upped a gear or two! The chp buzzes with activity and even Theresa plays a positive role ( though I love it when she is fun with her dear, poisonous friends). Great stuff, Robert. Thanks
Sorry, @chris191070, @kbois has been a little bit insensitive to our feline fans…. If she could see what Spawn of Satan has done every day this week…… latest crime 2 hours ago, getting into a rubbish bag, again, and extracting the foil on which I baked confit duck. Okay, it must have been tasty but………
@Summerabbacat Shouldn’t you be in bed???????
BTW. After my little 15 break I returned to kitchen: Spawn of Satan had been in bin, again and was enjoying aluminum with duck fat flavor (sorry for meat ref) and then when I was on point of adding stock to make a mushroom risotto I noticed an odd smell. Yes, I had mixed duck stock with seafood stock. All down the sink. Not a master chef moment….. xxxx
