Whilst waiting for the next update on Granger’s latest adventures, I decided to go back to the start. This is a gem of a book, all the key points to the futre character development of George are here, an amazing achievement, frankly.
This book is, obviously the place to start for new readers, but also a joy to revisit after nearly a million words later.
Well done, Mark.
I think, at the end of the day, many late 20th-century gays just can’t identify with the, to me, ghastly upper class “homosexuals” of an earlier age. I too shared Drew’s reaction when I read Isherwood’s canon in the 1980’s. Frightful snobs, users of working class boys, there is a concise word to describe them and a lesson to those who seek to impose a “gay” label on those who would have loathed it.
Thank you @Drew Payne for a brutally honest critique.
This is such a good read @Mac It’s a long holiday weekend here in Valencia and I’ve spent most of the time reading your back catalogue. Thank you and well done!
He has been here to Valencia twice recently. Hugely popular, the voice of an angel but he also seems human and no sense of being a “diva”. The music fits the story chp perfectly.
I’m fascinated by all the different strands and levels that you have brought to the story. As a former ethics lecturer these types of moral dilemma were my bread and butter.
This is a really clever piece of writing @lawfulneutralmage. Bravo 🙌
Stories like this make one realize the world is so big, and so many places we have never heard of, but that human love can thrive anywhere. Fascinating start.
We have town halls with gay banners here in Spain, my college in Oxford now with a flag on the tower after I was humiliated as a student there, but the reality is that so many human beings are still suffering because of the terrible education their parents received and their negativity is a poison that, thankfully, love can heal. Be strong, friends.
There is a great Graham Norton tv interview with a pair of Kerry (sw Ireland) gold medal winners and to see the faces of the Hollywood “stars” not understanding a word. If I’m clever I will find the li;k!
