There's a lot in this chapter, so I'm only going to concentrate on a few points that jumped out at me on the first read. The big one was how Toph temporarily reverted to talking about himself in the third person when he saw his mother. It was only for a few lines, but it jumped out at me and told me very powerfully that Toph was completely unnerved by her appearance. I don't know how he'll cope at the wedding, but hopefully with preparation, he'll be okay (I won't say fine, because I doubt he'll be that relaxed). On that note, though, since he's been busy tearing down the walls inside his mind, he's given Gary the job of defense. It makes sense: the General is put in charge of defending his boyfriend...now that the boyfriend has healed enough to admit the relationship to himself Finally, I couldn't help notice the date of the wedding. If there continues to be two chapters for a story month, and that this story is going to be for one year, then the wedding will be in the penultimate chapter. That indicates to me that there's going to be some sort of dramatic confrontation at the wedding. Bad dragon! Don't you know that that will be Clarissa's day and having her mother spoil it (somehow) is just not on!

I needed to do a time jump because otherwise the story was going to drag out too much. There's still just under three weeks to the draft, but the only really significant events in the missing period were Julie being appointed head coach, and Ross's two dates with Warwick. The third date was much more interesting The brat was fine with the scout, though a little annoyed with the interruption to their training, until the scout said that they weren't being supervised. Since they were, Ty took offense. He considered it to be an insult to Julie, and so he took action.

There is a book and there is a play. They are two different products and should be evaluated separately. This thread has been about the book. Taking an analogy, there is a book and a movie called How To Train Your Dragon. The movie is great, but I didn't like the book at all. There is nothing wrong with that. Similarly, there are movies I have liked where the story itself was rubbish, but the visual aspects of the movie overcame the limitations of the plot. I would recommend the movie, but wouldn't recommend buying any publication of the script. That's the situation we have here. Some people are not recommending the published script. That doesn't mean the play isn't worth seeing.

The number of condoms used at the Sydney Olympics was on the news at the time, and I seem to recall one of the other Olympics they ran out of condoms, but I've never seen any articles that listed personal details without the consent of the athletes involved... Yes, the athletes have a healthy sex-life. Yes, the gay athletes today will use apps like Grindr to hook up. But all details of what happens in the Olympic village should stay there -- journalists should respect their privacy and only talk in generalities.

I'm really glad to see Dorian standing up for what he believes. He listened to his friends, but he made up his own mind. That's something he wouldn't do at the start of the story. Avery made a tactical blunder sending out that message. He effectively gave free advertising to the march as well as raising its profile sufficiently that it'll attract the attention of students who would otherwise have ignored it. Onto the next chapter to see what happens next!

At least Josh has finally come clean with Jacob's family. We'll have to wait to see how Conrad reacts when he's with Josh and/or Jacob alone, but I think what happens after that cliffhanger is probably more important... Now we have to wait again...

I think Joseph picked exactly the right argument to persuade Dorian. He's not going to march because he's easily persuaded, he's going to march because he's realised he can make a difference. As for Wes, I can appreciate how he might think that Dorian is out of his league. Pushing Dorian away is a defensive strategy to stop himself from being hurt. What he still needs to learn is that it's difficult to find success in any endeavour (including falling in love) if you don't take a chance on getting hurt.

The thread isn't pointless because the script wasn't advertised or sold as a script for the play, it was advertised and sold as the 8th book in the series. It is therefore a legitimate complaint if it's not up to scratch as an 8th book. Plot elements are also worth talking about because they will still be relevant regardless of whether you read the script or watch the play. The play, itself, may be very entertaining and popular, but that's a different discussion. The hype was on the book, not the play (which many of us can't go see because it's not in our countries -- the book is).
