Loved it! I'm also hungry now.

I didn't even know I was holding my breath until the end of the chapter and I heard my own audible sign of relief! Felicity is safe (for now) and just made the gutsiest decision of her life. Oliver's world is starting to implode -- professionally, personally, financially. This is the point at which abusers are the most dangerous and reckless, they feel they literally have nothing left to lose. Thank goodness this is set in England, not here in the U.S. where Oliver might have that gun! On a much lighter note, Eric is facing more changes, perhaps not confidently, but willingly.

He'll certainly cut a more dashing figure! He seems kind of like a Pebble Beach guy. Public course, but a little high-end, beautiful but wild. It's close to wine country, that would appeal to Ozzie. They might need to invest in some more Cali property!

We have seen glimpses of this CJ before (the motorcycle rally), but this was a new level! This controlled, directed anger is something that will serve him well in couple decades! Also the golf lessons, who has ever heard of a president that didn't do business on the golf course?

I think you need a new trainer! My current fave is half peanut butter whisky - half bourbon -- neat. Also, if Elijah absolutely needed to escape, he could shapeshift into a snake or something and get out.

Dalen is a classic "reluctant hero" in an epic fantasy. Wonderfully fun!
-
I can't imagine the king sending his much-loved cousin to a one-year assignment to "the end of the line" without some perceived benefit. I think there is more to the vale than we can see. The people seem to be much more pleasant than at the palace, and the distance from his mother can't hurt!
-
I am guessing that there are traitors in Haven, perhaps connected to some of the court fops Dalen's mother associates with? I hope for Dalen and his father's sake, his mother is not involved.
-
I like the fast comaradery between Bart and Dalen. I have a feeling that Bart will be more than just "scenery", and that his pretentious, snobby mother will object. Looks like the action is about to start!

This is my introduction to this story, and to the Valdemar universe, but not to other other stories by this author. Fantastic start, I have an idea of the history, without being overwhelmed by details. I think the mother will be a villian, or at least a problem!

It feels like we are circling round to a cataclysmic event in Felicity's life. I so hope she makes it out ok.

Lovely end to this story, can't wait till the next one!

I loved Essell's confidence, and Garjah is secure enough to not take over! It's sad to think that there will be politicians forever and amongst all species.
-
Great start! Your usual wonderful writing has painted a picture as descriptive and complex as any movie.

Priority one is getting the shapeshifter embedded. Two is finding the "new facility", which is in the U.S. Three is following the money. This is one of the best shifter-romance-mystery-adventure stories I've ever read (I think we need a new tag)!

So happy to catch up with the hunky grands! I have no doubt that the ambassador has witnessed and heard enough gossip to know that Northman is being a big jealous baby. I totally got the shyness vibe from Lupe. She is acting like almost all little girls everywhere, unless they have CJ's DNA.

Great writing! I could feel her bone-tired exhaustion.

The ending was an unexpected surprise! What's Darren up to??? What did the water goddess do all those years ago, and what is she going to do now?
-
I guess Lucy redeemed herself, but I still don't care for her personality! That's ok, not everyone on a team has to like each other, they just have to work well together to be successful. It looks like it's going to be a showdown between Michael, Mordred, the elder and our merry band of heroes

I liked the tension and pace of this chapter. All the different scenes were like the outside spokes of a wheel. The different characters were involved in adventures with no contact or knowledge of each other. But all that action is moving inwards towards the center of the wheel where everyone will interact. Fantastic!

I need to remember that the Conclave finding all the pieces of Fear was foreseen, but seriously Lucy! You injected yourself into this whole excursion (that you saw as some Disneyesque adventure), you find the item the bad guys needed to resurrect their god to destroy humanity!!! Girl, you need to check yourself! On the plus side, Torsten has what he needs to become the new seer, Sebby is not dead, Araziah is a great kisser, and we're getting set-up for a colossal showdown.

This melancholic chapter is exactly what makes this story so real and so good. Eric is not just living in the past, we see that he was conditioned by his parents to do so. I wonder if his life would have been very different if he had been straight, possibly not? He might have been an out of date old man desperately afraid of approaching or being with women. His mother did quite a job on his psyche. He may feel more out of touch now because he knows what he doesn't know, before he was just ignorant of what existed. Before meeting his young men, I think Eric would have given up and retreated at this threshold. But now, he will keep going forward, perhaps clumsily, grumpy, and in starts and stops, but forward.

Wow! A lot happened in this chapter. Does the Order have a mole? The Gray Prince and the Ash Sisters knew where to find Araziah. What big thing is Celeste finding out? What's up with that kiss? While I don't see their relationship as familial or incestuous, I don't get a romantic vibe from Torsten and Araziah. I'm irritated (yet again) by Lucy. Maybe I'm letting my personal aversion to obnoxious, hyper, full-on types cloud my judgement, but her self-absorbed interest in "watching over" her best friend is a little too much for me. While I'm at it, I am glad that Theo is dead. I don't miss him. The more love that other readers heaped on him, the less I liked him.

I feel that Kent may be important in CJ's future political career. Jurgen???? I bet the stick up his ass was coordinated with his outfit!

I'm hoping that Essell's parents (more likely his mom) don't cause problems because they have been usurped by Essell. He is suddenly more important than she ever hoped to be.
