  1. Welcome to all the new members. This is a great place, so enjoy!
  2. A new theory. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/31/mysterious-siberian-holes-explained_n_5637303.html?icid=maing-grid7%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl19%7Csec3_lnk3%26pLid%3D509695
  3. A lot of Spanish ships sunk in the Caribbean and around Florida for various reason, storms (shuch as hurricanes), battles and even pirates. In addition to those wrecks, addtional vessels from later periods that traveled from teh West Coast through the Panama Canal were also lost, so there's a great of gold and silver lying hidden beneath the ocean floor. If only the oceans were receeding, making it easier to get to, but unfortunately it's headed in the other direction. Maybe oover time a portion of it may be found, but most of it will remain there forever.
  4. Suddenly images of Morlocks, the underground creatures from H. G. Wells story "The Time Machine," comes to mind. Will we now see them emerging from these holes and attacking the local inhabitants? A scary thought, indeed.
  5. Although it was a long time ago, my family wasn't the accepting type, so I never told them. I was afraid of a violent reaction, since similar situations happened when they reacted to other things they didn't approve of. Therefore, I hid the truth from them until the day they died. I truly hope none of you have to go through a similar situation.
  6. Happy Birthday, FR! I hope it's an enjoyable one.
  7. Happy Birthday, James! I hope it's a great one.
  8. Happy Birthday, Anyta!
  9. Education is fine and a noble effort. Just don't forget the old adage. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
  10. I'll always remember him in his original Maverick role. I loved that show. RIP.
  11. I love things like this and found it very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Happy Birthday, Kiltie! I hope it's a great one.
  13. WL is correct when he says not everyone that is homophobic is the same. However, there is one thing I believe can be said that might be wise to consider. It's impossible to argue with ignorance and opinion. Most opinions are not based on facts and are merely something the person accepts as true. Sometimes this is due to the old adage that if you say something often enough and loud enough, people will begin to believe it. Another way of saying this is that if you throw enough crap against the wall, some of it is bound to stick. In most of these cases, it is useless to try to persuade te person otherwise or attempt to convince them they are wrong. In such cases, it's better to move on and stop wasting your time. Stick to those you can reason with and write the others off as a lost cause, because you'll never change them. If you don't believe that, just look at those that would like to return to the days of Jim Crow or before the women's rights movement.
  14. Happy Birthday, Mann! I hope it's a great one!
  15. I love fried shrimp, fried clams and fried fish, but only enjoy it occasionally, since it isn't good for me. I can eat it, just not fried. I wish that weren't the case, but it seems as if most things I enjoy are bad for me, one way or another.
  16. A very catchy and interesting number. I won't say I don't make some of the same mistakes, because I do, but I also try to catch as many of them as I can. Unfortunately, the use of the internet has exacerbated the problem, whether the sender is attempting to limit the number of keystrokes he has to enter, making it faster to get his point across or due the limited number of characters that can be used in posting a message. Whatever the case, I find any movement toward the use of proper grammar commendable.
  17. Although I believe they are initially talking about finding the markers to sustain life or even microbial life, it is still interesting. I think it will take much longer than that to discover 'intelligent' life on other worlds, but the mathmatical probability alone is staggering. I would love to see it happen within my lifetime, but I won't hold my breath.
  18. Dang. I didn't realize it had been that long. I started playing D&D with my son and his friends in the late 70s and have played off and on since. How time flies.
  19. I'm sure not many people realize this happened so close to the U.S. Most think such things happened in parts of the Atlantic Ocean that were closer to Europe or Northern Africa, as well as far out in the Pacific Ocean. To learn that something like this happened in the Gulf of Mexico may come as a surprise, but it emphasizes the fact that WW II was definitely a global war. Very interesting.
  20. I find it sad that so many men are so insecure with their own sexuality that they feel they have to 'attack' gays, either physically or verbally,. to prove their manhood. Maybe it's an extension of the old childhood axiom that 'my dad can beat up your dad' has evolved into. Now, it's 'I'm more manly than you because you're gay.' Many women like to complain that most men never grow up, so hopefully this is one area that they'll eventually reach maturity.
  21. It's refreshing to find a parent who's not concerned with making his child fit into the mold that he or society thinks they shold fill. I have to give kudos to him for also putting on a dress, at his daughter's request. How many grown men would do that?
  22. Happy Birthday, Layla!
  23. Thanks for responding to this piece, zaf89. I'm glad you enjoyed it. More people should ask questions about how they're living their lives.
