Even though I have been here for years, I don't know everything about stories on GA and beyond. I'm not talking Da Vinci code stories, but actual semi-fictional biography on one of the most noteworthy thinkers, philosopher, and engineers of the Renaissance, who happens to be (highly likely) homosexual. He's got some interesting relationships and some sad tragedies with his boyfriends. I know Mark and several other authors do historical stories, but the most interesting and inspiring period of history seems like a great source of lgbt literature. Stories of Florentine artist with no name or title of art attached to them, street boys serving customers of both sexes, and powerful politicians with their own ambitions for power and prestige. This was the age of Da Vinci and Machiavelli, so there's a lot of territory. Hell, there are 3 series called the Borgias in the last 10 years.

I understand what you mean and even agree with you on some levels, but it's difficult to not feel attached to a character as a reader. I guess its a sign of being a good writer, when you can elicit this type of reaction.

I could always recant on my death bed I guess to me, it's like watching a parent abandon their child on the street of the Internet. Since I am a writer and a reader, I want to help him out, but the rules would not allow me and would rather let this child wither and die out on the streets. The argument, when you get down to an anthropological perspective is a stance that few people would allow if this were a "human" child, but an idea is far less deserving and far less human; even if it was man made.

We respect one another ability and respect our works mutually Still, recently, I came upon a story that I was so angry at and so desperately desiring to change the fate of its protagonist that I wanted to ask the author if he would allow me to do a sequel based on his work, which has been in limbo for years. I haven't done it, because part of me doesn't want to desecrate the author's work, but on another level I don't like seeing a character beaten, tortured, enslaved, and completely lost his humanity without either a chance to seek vengeance or a death to end his pain. As a writer, I am a God of my own fictional universes, many of which I have also half finished or half conceived. I know I shouldn't care what another writer does as I am no saint with my stories either, but part of me wanted to do more. I wanted to offer a character I felt attachment to have a better life than the one he's been offered by his author's absentee relationship. Am I the only writer with these kinds of thoughts? Is fan fiction of a fictional story ever justifiable? I don't know. We've debated this before and I can understand why we shouldn't take over another writer's work, but is it respect or is it presumption? I believe if there are no rules in existence right now, there should be allowances that allow people to finish the work of writers long past writing or have stopped for personal reasons after years of limbo. The Renaissance began with an unfinished cathedral in Florence, which needed a new architect with fresh ideas from the brilliant minds of Cosimo de Medici and Filippo Brunelleschi. Without their help, the largest dome of the time would never have been built, nor would a study of the classics have created new thoughts for future generations. I am not a genius at this, but I also know there needs to be more open minds to create great stories and greater explorations of fiction than what we have done so far. A copyright is only an idea, if a writer forgets the idea, what right is left to stop new writers from finishing his work?

Great story of Secret Admirer in an office setting. I can so relate to Fred's predicament as I've had to deal with breakups on my own and I lost my dog about a year ago. Work helps to make you forget your troubles, but it doesn't solve the underlying loneliness. I really hope Fred will have a good future with his new romantic prospect.

I know what you mean about changing styles. My earlier stories, especially unfinished stories were far too detailed. My more recent stories are shorter and far more pointed. As for POV, I prefer 2 shifts per chapter at most, it gives me some flexibility to think from other angles, but also limit scope. Time is another thing, with Book 2 of 0's and 1's, I am playing with the aspect of Multi-temporal POV, which I am trying to be very careful with as I am noticing detail creep.
