Talk about dead topics coming back: It was D K's Do-Over stories that brought me onto GA and I have deep respect for him as a writer. As a politico, we stood on opposite sides of the Soapbox, the predecessors of the Pit. As writer, he was a God of gay writing in an age of tedium; he had extreme epic scope, nuanced ideas, and challenging topics. As an individual, we stood for different ideals with similar desires, like Gore Vidal vs. Truman Capote. (Look up their epic disagreements, gay guys can be extremely different in our views) He was a product of his times, an era of fear and triumph, lust and loss, and values vs. reality. Since his departure, I've finished an entire book since then, and many other authors have come and gone like Shadowgod, Cjames, and DomLuka. He's a reminder of what the last generation of LGBT community gave for our present to be what it is, but we must also move forward and seek our own destinies in the future yet to be written, figuratively and literally. That will be my epilogue to this 4 year old topic.

Another thing I am planning on doing and maybe some others will too, Is anyone thinking of going down to Orlando and paying their respects by visiting Pulse, maybe laying some flowers or cards?

I think we need to connect organizations and groups together in order to do it. As I said in the blog post, we need to reach out to some of the bigger publication guys, who can support a community project: Magazines and online publishers like Advocate or GALA (they support LGBT in their mission statement and have strong LGBT literary ties), or aim for something bigger like Lambda Literary Foundation, if you want to get heavyweight support and make something with substance and credibility for publication that can be used as a fundraising tool and memorial for victims. It's a good idea, I just don't know who around here has the contacts or even knowledge of these groups and their editors to make a dent or propose a joint venture. Maybe, other LGBT writers and sites could pool resources together and we can do a compilation of eminent writers and creative arts. In either case, I don't think GA alone can do it without seeking a partner or multiple partners for both the logistic portion of publication and fundraising, nor enough authors and artists of representative work. It's a community project just like the AIDS fundraisers. Someone has to start somewhere, make a few calls, and check out with other site admins.

For my readers, you know from reading Book 1 that I was heading down this direction months ahead of the Orlando attack, so I hope you understand my reticence.

If we can get it published like make it an annual thing sponsored by Advocate or another big LGBT publication, it might be a good thing. We may even be able to ask other non-GA writers to help out, we're a sizable community, I would think we can scrounge 102 writers. I'll be #3 behind you and Cole, if this gets started.

You know, we write stories about this kind of stuff all the time, but we never seem to share our thoughts and reactions within the lounge. I know the teens have their posts and threads on their challenges coming out, but as adults we also have stories as well on how we deal with coming out. I came out to all my co-workers in the last 2 days, prompted by Orlando and a deep desire to seek solidarity, it is like a high with no limit or restriction to finally be out to the people you know every day. Most people were supportive, others just shrugged and said "whatever". One fun thing I did learn is one of my colleagues and superiors was bi, which is awesome (She has a boyfriend, so I never knew that side of her). At the moment, it's huge high to have the truth out in the open. I am not sure if this is true for other people as well when you came out as adults to friends and co-workers. Of course, I know there are probably some tragic stories out there about friendships broken, jobs lost, and other problems over what comes out, when you come out.

I want to go to Orlando now and lay a flower in front of the Nightclub. I think I am at the point in my life, where I can come out to my co-workers, so I will this week, I don't need to, but I want to offer solidarity with everyone.

Glad you enjoyed it and I love working with near future tech, 3D printing programming is still cutting edge even now as computer scientists and engineers have not broken it into a formidable process to turn it into Star Trek's Replicator technology. As for human element, I don't believe in easy answers to complex issues, being gay doesn't make us superior even in fiction, it just adds an element to who we are for others to love and hate.
