So glad your story was highlighted, @Luc. It was brilliant, both in its concept and its execution. Your use of flashbacks mixed with the present kept the tension poised right on the edge for so long that I felt like I had held my breath through most of the story. Then, the tears finally came, not because it was so tragically sad -- both of them had gone on to good lives with people they loved. Nevertheless, their first love, like the water they were swimming in, was so pristine that part of me wanted to see them "make it work." Maybe in some alternate universe...

@Mac Rountree: I love the multiple-perspective spirituality of this story, and the Judaic history of the Jenner & Feldsher families and their friends that is interwoven throughout the story was a terrific reminder that we can never be complacent about life. I loved these characters, and I'm glad we will at least get to see cameos in the upcoming Advent-Hanukkah-Christmas story. Shalom. May the Peace of the Lord be with with you in your writing. I do hope Cristina holds firm in her current agreement to get away from Damien. Even with help from Chipper, Evan, and CJ, I fear she will cave at least once as so many abused spouses do. We know so many intelligent, educated professionals who keep forgiving and going back to their abusers — sometimes once too many for their lives or the lives of their children. So frustrating but you cannot save someone from themselves.

Wow! Definitely didn’t see it although you had given some sense of Rhisi’s frustration at not being leader of their clan. I also definitely agree with what the others said about Dylan & Patrick.

For both his physical health and his mental health, I could not imagine Amara going back on tour this soon. I think everyone in this newly-formed and growing family senses that Amara still has a darkness in him that is different than when the story started. PTSD is a long term disorder from which he will never be free although he can learn to manage it over time with the right therapist. Nonetheless, I’m glad Amara has recognized and accepted it to the point of talking with Alexei and now Drew. For someone so young, it is another sign of just how amazing Amara is. Thanks @Nephylim for some truly incredible characters who will be lovingly missed by all of us!

No wonder Daniel’s mother left when she found out she was pregnant. Perhaps one of the few good choices she made for Daniel in his life. If it comes to a legal fight, maybe she will do one more good thing and testify for Daniel to stay with Stephen & Lewis. ...and just when Daniel was starting to gain some self-esteem. Sigh.

Me, too, but then I thought about Artemis’ behavior until he went to buy the collar. It didn’t fit; plus, Elias is supposed to be much smaller than Artemis, so it was peculiar that he had the store owner measure his neck if it was going on Elias. I breathed a sigh of relief, however, when the chapter ended as it did.

At least, Artemis has been trying hard to rebuild a sense of trust and self worth in Elias — not a trivial matter when one was put in slavery at age six.

What @drpaladin said... plus, Elias has the flexible, open intelligence of youth at its finest. Excited to see how he and Artemis challenge each other to grow.

Since I am behind in my reading, I’ll soon know more about their friend’s ability to forgive. My best guess is that they will— eventually. First, I wanted to answer Sui’s question about whether I could forgive if I were Petr. Although I’d have a moment or three of being livid, I would forgive once I learned that Leon is very much alive and why they saw no other option. Of course, a royal wedding would help, particularly if it aided my wedding with a certain Thai cutie.

Sad but not u realistic, particularly considering they were just finishing their junior year in high school. I also had gotten very involved in the characters so would like to see a sequel or at least an epilogue — not for Justin & Rob to get together but to see where everyone lands as they graduate high school or college. Until it happens, thank you @TheZot for a compelling set of characters trying to survive high school and life, in general.

I love how Melanie & her mom are so in tune. Poor Justin had no chance. Still, it was comedic although at Justin’s expense.

So I’ve been the Southern Boy in New England, the Yankee in Texas and Georgia, & growing up in West Virginia, I was the hillbilly (or worse) everywhere. I didn’t have the martial art skills (I was a band geek/science nerd), but I totally get Justin’s dilemma. Not sure from the perspective of an additional 50 years that Justin ‘s plan is the best option, but I can appreciate his logic especially considering he’s on the Aspberger’s spectrum. Thanks for sharing, @TheZot!

So glad this story was highlighted this month! I had not read it previously, but it’s straightforward style belies the depth of the portrayal of a very believable, dysfunctional family. Thanks, @Cia, for showcasing this story, and thanks to you, @Mellicat, for sharing it with us.

In the South, there is a saying: weddings and funerals bring out the best and worst in families. I also wonder if Thomas (and possibly Fred) were on the Pervasive Development Disorder spectrum. At the least, their Emotional IQ is severely lacking. By the way, your juxtaposition of now vs 20 years earlier is a tremendous way to peel back the onion of their dysfunction as well as building and maintaining the tension. Nicely done, @Mellicat!

Ditto. I definitely want to know why & how Charlie— & soon, Brendan, if I sorted out the ambiguous “he” correctly — die. Does Lane kill them directly, or is it just because they have come into Lane’s sphere?

But it's not really complete, is it @Cia??? Laith (or Leith -- you used both) certainly seems not to have anything holding him to his current existence. Kind of like the Professor in Stargate: & maybe he'll find his special someone among the stars as well!
