I am captivated by this story, particularly by Sam. I have to confess, however, that I have become overwhelmed and befuddled by the number of characters (and entities) that show up in segments that seem to be unconnected, so far. I even tried waiting until a number of chapters accumulated and then going back to re-read from the beginning, hoping that with the temporal continuity, I could make better sense of the story. Despite my confusion, I will try yet again because I do like Sam. Perhaps in the future, you might consider altering the flow to be less disconnected. Creating some discontinuity and leaving the reader with questions can be a good "hook," but for me, the current amount is too much.

Before I move on to the next chapter, I want to share my hypothesis about what the royal edict is going to be: the edict will be for Jihan to marry Kastan. It will be misunderstood by Jihan, however, whose drive to protect his family and his heart--as well as his natural secretiveness--will lead to a Shakespearean comedy of errors. Just my guess, but it has been growing in certainty although I am likely to be wrong considering @lilansui's penchant for twists and turns. In any case, I'm counting on her penchant for HEAs to make everything right in the end. 😊

The names were getting all mixed up in my head, too. So, I went back and re-read the 1st chapter to get all the characters straight (so to speak). After the re-read -- and reading chapters 2-4 in one day -- the characters are more settled in my mind. Sometimes binge reading is a good thing!

Interesting how many similarities there are between Jihan and Kastan: odd person out amongst their families, creators of idyllic, secure refuges away from Imperial life, trustworthy and inspiring trust in their closest friends and allies, strategic, brilliant in their endeavors, and each with a critical vulnerability: Rashan and Andiya. I went back to the Prologue, and so much has clearly occurred to arrive at that fateful future meeting between Kastan and Jihan. Each chapter seems to fill in more of the picture you drew in the Prologue. By the end, I suspect that that Prologue will feel like a hologram -- visible from all angles, each with a piece of the picture. I also suspect that it will stand out as one of your masterpieces, @lilansui.

At what point does ambition become hubris? I think Duyi has passed that point and is well into hubris. As always with your stories, @lilansui, the next chapter can never arrive too soon. In this case, I am behind in my reading so the next chapter is... now. 😉

I know it’s likely to be a while before such an event will happen, but what a feel-good way to kickoff 2020. Besides, we can all hope it will be sooner rather than later.

This story is so much more than a werewolf/shifter story. You have Native American legends, other paranormal types, an erotically-charged 2+2 relationship that catalyze the beginning of a new pack. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look foward to re-reading it if possible during the month. I do think there are some intriguing possibilities for sequels. Any possibility, @Wayne Gray? -

This story is amazing. With its intertwining of the characters from "Jimbo" and "Boys of Summer" (and now more intertwining to come with the revelation of the connection between Matan's family and the Emmanuelson family), the intertwining of faiths and religious traditions, and the incorporation of quotes and music for each day from the first Sunday of Advent to Epiphany (and the overlapping days of Chanukkah), it is truly a multicultural delight. I looked forward each day of the holiday season to the readings, the discussions, the music, and of course the vignettes that came together to create this story. Kudos @Mac Rountree, and all the best for 2020. In the multicultural tradition of this story: ¡Feliz Día de Reyes!

Low angst is a great recipe to start the year! ...& he's a Bulldog! When I was at UGA in the early 80s, there were several football players that were known to be gay -- at least by some of the guys who bedded them. I am curious to find out who Martinez is! PS: A little history: UGA in the 70s was a hotbed of gay activism. It was a presentation by one of the officers of the campus gay group (to a ballroom-filled audience) that opened the final lock on my closet door.

Fantastic start to this story. You had me at shifter lions, but it just keeps getting better! The tensions (drama, drama, drama — thanks, @Hellsheild) between Rush & his father, Rush & his duty, Rush & his upcoming royal decrees that will shape his reign, and now between Rush & his Mate: ALL of them have me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next chapter. ...& kudos to Beckett, the perfectly adorable but annoying younger brother, for helping keep Rush’s feet planted on the ground. 🥰

Perhaps it is how it is meant to be, but I am so confused about Eron and Tayloe. They clearly love each other, but is Tayloe in love with Eron? It seems like he is, but Eron's response to his joking makes it seem as though Tayloe is not in love -- or he is confused and/or not yet able to make the commitment. Six more days to resolve...

I’m looking forward to clearing up some of the questions and seeing where these wolves & wolves-to-be end up. Since it is no longer a slash piece, will it spoil things if we know if Jake is Jacob from the Twilight series?

Kudos to Owen for saying out loud what other family & friends have probably been thinking. If they hadn’t, I hope that they can get onboard now. This level of pathological depression needs everyone around Pam to make her treatment successful. A dear friend from high school just lost her husband, whom she had been with since we were in 10th grade, 50 years ago. She recently posted this perspective , one that Pam and others may find solace in, as well. (Sorry, but it is a jpeg, and I could not find a way to include it other than as a Dropbox link. Glad I hadn’t just missed pictures being taken while they were doing coke. With the short chapter mode, I was breaking my head trying to figure out what I missed. Having said that, I was surprised that Chipper was so cavalier with his career. He has always seemed very focused and aware of consequences, particularly after seeing so many of the consequences of CJ’s fame. Then again, he is 22...

Not that I mean to let @Cia and her propensity for universe-wide conspiracies color my perceptions, but I can’t help but wonder if @Yeoldebard has at least an Alliance-wise plot going on. Perhaps there are reasons not everyone in the Alliance wants the Oyhaf system to continue providing the shipyard ‘s services. Time to follow the money.
