Thank you, Val. Yeah, my mare is such a kiss-ass, and she can always smell a carrot or apple from 50 feet away. I have to say, I really loved doing these Haiku... it's something knew that makes me notice stuff around me in a different way. I appreciate the review, Val... thanks and cheers... Gary

Thanks, Lit. I really am having fun with this. As I said in my reply to Val... I notice little things that I may not have thought of before. I guess you could say poetry stimulates the senses... which is a concept I find interesting... cheers... Gary

Loved that the horse was successful in its quest for a tasty treat. Not so fond of horseflies since they bite, so I won't be cheering its success.

Lol... I hate horseflies with a passion, so I root for the tail. My first sight this morning, looking out my kitchen window was a hummingbird at my hangings baskets... I immediately composed the Haiku... I'm really enjoying this...I find the 5-7-5 syllable restriction really intriguing. Thanks for the review, Reader... cheers... Gary

The haiku is lovely, and you are right it does give an otherwise normal occurrence deeper appreciation.

Thanks, Defiance! A trifecta--I like that. I have a new appreciation for Haiku... and its simple yet challenging structure. There are so many ways to say something, but I like the concise requirements to express a thought or observation. I really appreciate the review... cheers...Gary

Hi Gary, thanks for starting to take the Poetry Prompt challenges. I really like the image of the horsefly. I can almost get a pre-shadow sense of the 'iridescence' that get mentioned in the next poem. I also get the buzzing sound too, lol.

In terms of having a seasonal word, I suppose they all do – for carrot 'speaks' of summer, doesn't it? Horsefly and hummingbirds certainly do.

Thanks, AC. These were my first haiku, and I was hooked. Wherever I look, there is a potential haiku. I enjoy these challenges immensely, and I like learning of the different ways to express myself.

I liked your grouping of Haiku here. I've heard of horseflies but never saw one til I googled it, I hope I never see one in real life. You Haiku though was good and I'm sure horses are glad they have tails.
Other images of hummingbirds and the carrot were excellent and you certainly get the feel of the summer from this group.

Thanks, tim. This was my introduction to Haiku. I really fell for the form, and when my dog passed away, they were a great way to release bursts of thought to help with the healing. I'm glad you are hooked, although I would caution you to never change your free verse style to fit any form. You have a very special form of expression that's all your own. I relate to it... I think I have one of my own, which I neglect as I work on these different forms. Great review, my friend... I think poetry is special to both of us... cheers... Gary...
