Chapter 13- Quatrain- My Own Autumn

How can such beauty instigate sadness

Lush life showing last vestiges of will

I love all the colors I must confess

But mourn what it means as I drink my fill

Indian summer, a blessing indeed

A treat I have wished for all summer long

Only to blink, and now watch it recede

Heeding winter’s wail to craft his own song

For years I have watched this cycle of life

Played out in a sequence so like my own

Often, time’s passage can cut like a knife

Now comes the time I must reap what I’ve sown

I wrote three... as I get older, I see things in a different light...

Gary that's beautiful. Truly.
Could see the reds and golds of autumn fading into winters grasp.
Gonna have to look at your poetry.

Thanks, Tim. My poetry is varied, for sure. I gotten some great prompts from AC Benus, and I've run with them. The prompt challenges might be something you should try. I love poetry and its many forms, and I go off on my own a lot as well. I also write song lyrics. They are a great release for me... a great way to express myself. Thanks for reviewing... glad you liked it... cheers... Gary...

A pensive and almost melancholy poem that immediately resonated with me. Maybe it's the same age that is responsible for similar thoughts. A beauty. Thanks for sharing.

It astonishes me how quickly the seasons seem to be passing as I get older. Our perspective has to evolve as we age, and we are just another example of how the world continues it cycle, over and over again. Thank you for the commiserating review, Peter :) . Much appreciated... cheers... Gary...

Seasons change, and with it the passage of time. Always will, but your poem paints a pretty picture and inspires thoughts about how we too, change in that never ending rotation. How we change is another matter altogether.. Beauty in your words as always Gary.

Okay, so the poem was a little melancholy throughout as the favoured seasons passed all too quickly into those that were not.
I didn't quite understand the meaning of the final words. I read them again and came to the conclusion that they referred to the final cycle of life changes.
Time to be accountable for are earlier actions/inactions.
Was I close?
As always, nicely done Gary.

Thanks, Def, for another great review! My premise was that the seasons, like life, seems to speed up as we get older, and yes our evolution as time passes is something we find ourselves looking back on...cheers... Gary...

It was indeed melancholy, Reader. I think we all have a favorite season, and we find it coming and going way quicker as we get older. You got the last lines right, at least for me. When we have a lifetime to look back on we start to take a look at the things we have done, the roads we have taken in the past, and good or bad we have to own up and accept the consequences. Thanks for a great review, and your support... Cheers... Gary...

Thank you, Gary, for taking another one of the poetry prompt challenges! One thing that stands out right away to me is how nice and comfortable-sounding your rhymes are. They have a great flow.

Naturally, the images in poem are quite strong, but perhaps you can focus a bit more on making the lines blend into one another.

Thanks again. I hope you'll move onto the next one, which is the Sonnet! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to discover you have all the tools you need already now in place ;)

Thanks, AC for the review, and the good advice. Much appreciated, and for sure I will be attempting the Sonnet, once I find out what it is lol. Cheers and thanks... Gary...

'Heeding winter’s wail to craft his own song' , very poetic. I found writing quatrains more difficult than I first thought, I like yours, they painted pictures in my head.

It seems we both went melancholy with this prompt. Maybe autumn does that. Beautiful how you weaved the passing of seasons with the years going by in your life.

And you apparently got a head start on sonnets! I'm still scared of prompt no 9...

Thanks, Adi! I was happy with that line. I appreciate the kind words. I'm learning so much with each prompt. Cheers... Gary...

I used to love Autumn... still do, but the seasons seem to go by so quickly at this stage of my life. I was definitely melancholy when I wrote this. I've come to hate winter, and this poem made me think about all the chores I still have left to do lol. Thanks for reviewing... cheers... Gary...
