Poetry Prompt 7-Blank Verse- Michael’s Ode to Kendall

All colors pale in the presence of you

And I have awakened to that glory

I’ve known you for a lifetime in my mind

Yet I’ve only begun to share your depths

Your capacity to love astounds me

The inner strength of you is limitless

You accept all the curves fate throws your way

And remain the same gentle soul I crave

Bitterness can find no home in your heart

Our real journey is only beginning

Curled in your arms at night gives me my peace

And I’m glad I don’t know all of you yet

I am blessed there is so much more to plumb

I will dedicate my life to that end

And when our final life chapter closes

No doubts I will still be in awe of you

Sweet dreams for you, my kind and caring man

I will join you in contented slumber

And when the beauty of dawn approaches

We'll wake to a lifetime of tomorrows

A new form for me... I found it very different, and quite interesting. This, for me, was much like writing a love letter...

Aaah! You went sweet too! Maybe it's the form that draws out these romantic lines? I felt tempredto curl up in bed with my guy when I read this poem.

That`s nice to hear, that you were tempted to do that. I had to be sweet because I was Michael lol. I did find this form interesting, and very different from the more structured ones. I may play with it again in another context... maybe a memory. Thanks for reviewing, Puppilull... cheers... Gary...

Arrgh, I keep starting and then erasing what I've written just can't quite get the correct words to express my thoughts ... let's try this ...

For me this says everything that was expressed in the love scene in the most recent chapter of COTT. There it was physical here it is soulful.

Very beautifully done.

Wow, thank you, dugh. It's great... no... more than that... affirming... that you feel I achieved this. It did come from Michael's soul, through me. To be truthful, I have Kendall nattering at me know. He wants his say lol. Thanks for such a wonderful review... cheers... Gary...

This is a very tender poem. I can almost see it as wedding vows, and they would be vows strong enough to bring down a storm of tears from the guests seeing them exchanged.

Like I mentioned in Puppilull's Blank Verse Poetry Prompt response, this kind of wonderful poem shows that there is a grandeur in blank verse that cannot be reproduced or even matched in just plain-spoken prose.

Yey! Poetry wins another one today! Thank you for posting this amazing piece.

Thanks, AC. This review is much appreciated. Writing in Blank Verse is interesting. Thanks for the review and the kind words... I thought I was done for the day but Kendall had a response, so I just posted another one, this one in Free Verse... something new again for me... cheers... Gary...

I agree with AC, Michael's Ode are almost wedding vows (and I hope that some of the lines will be engraved in the rings :*) ) I gotta say, this is now my favorite poem I have ever read and I mean it from the bottom of my heart :hug:

Wow, Seriously? Your favorite poem ever? Thank you so much for saying that, and I do believe you mean it. I never thought of this as wedding vows, but now I can see it as such. Thank you for a wonderful review, Drew... cheers... Gary...

Didn't know "Michael" :*) had it in him to compose such a poem.
But, then again, Kendall is quite the inspiration.
As always, nicely done Gary.

Yup, apparently he and Kendall are poets :) . Thanks, Reader, I hope you like Kendall's Response. These boys demanded equal time lol. I appreciate the kind and supportive review... cheers... Gary...

I never know what to say when reviewing poetry. It's not my favourite form of writing, but I do like what you write. It usually speaks to me in some way. This was so heartfelt that I could picture Michael lying ln his side watching Kendall sleeping and not able to keep himself from touching him - his hair, his arm, his chest. I think AC is right - these could be wedding vows.

For someone who says they don't know what to say, you do very well. How you picture Michael in this is exactly how I pictured him when writing this poem. Thanks, Eagle, for taking the time to let me know your thoughts on this. The feedback is wonderful... cheers... Gary...

Yup. To the core. I've learned to appreciate a man who isn't afraid of his feelings. A lot in my generation were. These two are a product of me, and they carry some of my traits. Thanks for taking the time to review, Buddy. It means a lot... cheers...Gary...

As I was reading this I was thinking, Vows. I'm happy it's the consensus.
This is why poetry is a beautiful form. These words wrap you in such emotion and the mood sets the scene, we can just about see. There's no doubt how deeply Michael loves.
Loved this Gary!

Thank you, Def! I thought this a natural extension of their special night in the last chapter. What you say here is beautiful, Def. I was only going to write this one but as you probably already know, it carried on to one from Kendall to Michael. I hope you like it as much. I guess they really are vows to one another, as they watch each other sleep. I'm pleased you find poetry a beautiful form... so do I... cheers, my friend... Gary...

This shows how real a character can be for an author, only then can you write such a heartfelt, sweet and yet strong piece. Great!

You are so right, Adi. These guys are real and they live in my head. I know exactly how they think. Thanks for liking Michael's poem. I've never written in Blank Verse before, and I found it interesting... more of a monologue of his thoughts. I appreciate the review... cheers.... Gary...

So beautiful Gary. I loved this! It's funny that Michael started out as such a playboy and now I can't ever see him looking at another person the way he looks at Kendall.

Thanks, Lit. Yup, Michael has found what he didn't know he was looking for, and he isn't going to let him go. I'm glad you thought it was beautiful, and I hope you like 'Kendall's Response' as much. At K's insistence, they go together. I appreciate the review, my friend... cheers... Gary...

Makes me wish I could write poetry, but I wouldn't be able to outdo this...even if I had the inspiration.

Amazing, my friend.

Thank you, CG. I found it pretty easy to express how Michael feels about Kendall. I wrote this after their special night. Michael wanted to speak about what Kendall means to him. I guess it came out as a vow of sorts. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It means a lot my good friend... cheers... Gary...

Yeah, wedding vows definitely.
Where to start, hmmm Gary? I can almost see you sitting at your computer writing this. Tears? Am I close?
I don't cry easily, but if someone I loved said these words to me, and I was looking in his eyes, well yeah there'd be tears.
COTT, carries the same emotion as did this poem. This and COTT are both odes to love and relationships. Beautiful.
I said this a few days ago to someone, that I am go glad I'm a gay man. Because I know so many straight men that could never say what you've said here. While life is harder when you're gay, in some ways you're freer than a straight guy will ever be.
I think Michael discovered that, when he discovered his love for Kendall was so much more he'd ever thought. And here in this beautiful poem, he's telling us so.
Lovely Gary .. lovely.

Yup! Very close. This and its companion still have that effect on me. It was an emotional outpouring for Michael and for me. I think you are so right about the striaght man/gay man thing, although I find some gay men who act like they THINK a man is supposed to. I feel sorry for them. I feel that these fit so well with their COTT characters that they should be a part of the story some how... thanks for such a wonderful review, tim... cheers... Gary...
