Chapter 9-Prompt 13-Ghazal-Love In Spirit

I can feel you now, next to me

Locked in love is where I must be

You take all pain and dull its edge

With you I need no eyes to see

Torment becomes a distant rage

Sensing you is my soul’s true key

If time spent with you has a price

Torture exacts a willing fee

Reach out your mind and touch my heart

Have our prison swept out to sea

Deprived from touching your sweet skin

Won’t change that you and I are we

We''ll make do with daunting distance

I'll caress you visually

Joining souls is all we can have

Coupled thoughts only we can see

If hoping’s what we can indulge

I’ll wish with you I’ll someday flee

In my mind’s eye we will escape

That you and I will be set free

If death’s the only route to you

I’ll pray for it on bended knee

There is power beyond this world

I’ll touch you in eternity

Love, pain, and pathos

Wow, goose-bump moments with the final couplet, that's for sure…

It's very powerful, Gary. You've captured the undercurrent of the movie's love scene very well, which I believe is that almost too precious desire to believe in a future when the madness of the Holocaust is over. Love that. It's beautifully captured and delivered here, imo.

Thank you for taking the poetry prompt challenge, and as you are very accomplished at song lyrics, I hope you keep the Ghazal in mind when you write your next one.

Thanks, AC. The scene really inspired me. It has been so long since I first saw it. There was a poignancy to it that I wanted to attempt to capture, even if the hope meant death.I actually added another couplet because my brain is swimming with images and thoughts. Thanks for the encouraging review... cheers... Gary...

Wow! Just wow! You capture my thoughts to this heartfelt scene so precisely. And you make it look effortless, which I know it isn't. That lightness of the wording combined with the subject matter just floors me.

Now I'm even more triggered to do this. I don't think I'll be able to top this, but I want to give it a try. It's so beautiful.

Thanks, Puppilull! You just made my day. That scene, which I hadn't seen in years was very inspiring... tragic and beautiful. Effortless? No, but I had no trouble with knowing what I wanted to say. Your kind words make me feel I achieved it. Much thanks, and cheers... Gary...

That was an incredibly moving description of a very moving scene. I am beyond words.

Thanks, Lit! I believe this my first attempt at writing about something totally from the outside looking in. It might have opened a door for me. Saying you are beyond words is saying a lot. Thanks for your wonderful support, and the awesome review, my friend... cheers... Gary...

Your poem could easily replace the spoken words of the scene. Your text is full of images that appeal very much to me and capture the essence of the scene. Read aloud it flows impeccable. I hope to see many more of your poems of this high quality.

Thank you so much, J.HunterDunn. That scene inspired me greatly. I loved yours as well. This one was about hope in a bleak place. The only power they had was within. Thanks for the very kind words. I think poetry has become a part of me now... such a great way to express ourselves... I appreciate the review... cheers... Gary...

Wow, Gary. That was incredibly affecting. Your words capture the very essence of what was unsaid in that scene... Loved it.

Thanks, Def. This means a lot. This makes me want to continue to explore poetry in all its forms. A wonderfully encouraging review, from someone who's opinion I respect... You rock... cheers... Gary...
