Headstall's Poetry Prompts - 26. Chapter 26 Prompt 15- Rejoice and Already
Headstall’s Poetry Prompts
Chapter 26
Rejoice
We live more in minutes
Than others do in days
Exhaustion falls away when we touch
At least for a time
In sleep you are beautiful
And I curse my self-pity
As I listen to the gentle cadence of your slumber
It doesn’t belong here
In our cocoon
I didn’t mean to whine
Because gifts don’t come with rules
If next time is longer
I will rejoice
And if it isn’t
I will still rejoice
Already
I miss you already
Even though your scent still clings to me
I can feel your fingertips on my neck
And your thumbs stroking my jaw
The air from your regretful sigh surrounds me
And my lips still glisten with cherished moisture
From your goodbye kiss
I just watched your strong, suit-encased back
Walk through the door
Yet, I miss you already
