Exquisite Corpse and Other Collaborations - 5. Tapestries of Imagination (a Haibun)

This new collaboration with @Mikiesboy was more challenging than previous pieces. It is in the form of a HAIBUN, which, in this case, incorporates alternating prose poetry and free-verse poetry. For this project, we each took turns writing independent prose portions, then collaborated together to complete the free-verse sections.

Poetry anchors me to the world around me. When I started to write it, it helped me hold on to my humanity, for life on the street could have easily stolen that away. Prose lets me explore the world—many worlds and different types of characters—from the safety of my living room chair.

The flow of pen on paper, fingers on keys, creates intricate language and landscapes

Weaves a tapestry of imagination to transport Writer and Reader into realms unknown

There we can fly through space, fight aliens and our fears, and learn more about ourselves

No topic is too far-fetched, and we can walk safely for a mile in someone else's shoes

From the comfort of my chair, I explore the landscapes of my mind: distant galaxies, pastoral fields, gritty underworlds filled with diverse characters. Whatever my mind imagines, that is my stage. When I write, my pen becomes a conductor’s wand, intentionally orchestrating the prose.

Words flow from our hands, they fuel our imaginations

Let our hearts sing with joy and feed our artistic souls

Like notes strung together to form a musical composition,

Story-telling incites creative expression and emotional response

Writing has always been an outlet for me. I hope that my prose entertains, my poems make you feel, and blogs make you think, as others' work does for me. I believe the written word can benefit all; even a journal brings satisfaction. I encourage everyone to keep on writing and reading, all our words and thoughts are important.

Like a bridge that spans a river, language connects a population

Uniting people with its profound capacity to raise awareness and build relationships

Words can shatter lives and worlds; they can open your mind and hearts

But a silent pen is a shame, another voice unheard in a world where all voices should sing.

As with all of the Exquisite Corpse projects, tim and I only shared the last line of each of our sections with each other. The rest fell into place organically. No edits were made prior to posting.

Thank you, Mike. Your support of these "blind" collaborations means a lot. I think you're right that tim and I could produce some great work together through open collaboration.

No problem. .. Seriously these are wonderful things. Writing good poetry is hard, but this way? It floors me what you two do, and I'm not forgetting the one with Freerider.
