Hail to the Chief - Prologue. Prologue

With over 150 chapters and over 750,000 words, my little story about a gay kid coming of age turned out a little longer than I originally intended. Okay, a hell of a lot longer.

The writing style may have evolved over the last four-and-a-half years, but the original vision remained constant. I wanted to write a positive story, reflecting real lives. And as I told my editor after a typical snarky comment: Damn right I'm having a happy-ever-after ending.

Speaking of editors and snarky comments, @Mann Ramblings is one of my heroes. An accomplished, published author, he took a chance with an untested rookie and stuck with me through the entire series. His comments kept me inspired and laughing. He guided me and taught me. If you've enjoyed these stories give him a shout-out.

@Bucket1, @Kitt, and @Reader1810 were invaluable. They all helped me and contributed to making my rambling style into coherent works. Countless others have answered questions and offered advice; I would probably forget someone if I tried to list them all, so I won't.

Finally, to readers everywhere. Thank you for believing in me and sticking with the story. And for making it one of the most popular series ever posted on Gay Authors. I have a request... Please take a few minutes to like the chapter AND the story. Leave me a chapter comment and/or a story one. And if you feel inspired, leave a review.

It's been a fun, interesting ride. I'll be back in a couple of months with something a little different.

Chapter Comments

Carlos it has been fantastic following CJ’s story for the last 4 years and 150 chapters. We have learnt a lot from the story through the wonderful trips they made, the dialogue between CJ, Owen, family and friends. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride full of both happy and sad times.

It’s been an amazing read and I look forward to your next offering.

I can't decide if I want to be happy or sad about this finale to the C.J. saga. Having read every chapter to date, many of them two or three times, I will have to restructure my life with no more C.J. stories to look forward to. 😉 I know I will enjoy this last story, and I will look forward to whatever you write next.

Just as I expect CJ and Ozzie to end up, as the first couple.

I think I dropped enough hints along the way most readers suspected CJ and Owen would end up living in the White House!

Thank you, Nigel.

Stick around, I think you'll like the next series' entry. In CDMX I introduce a South African (Ugo Mapimpi) as a recurring cast member. I also have a toddler named Nigel Sinclair in it, although he's a toddler who I've not given any dialogue to yet. And one chapter tells the story of the 1995 Sprinboks' World Cup victory. :)

Carlos wrote this 'Final' story in his C.J. saga to provide the ultimate HEA to "the long and winding road" that is the story of C. J. Abelló.

But like the closing lyrics in the Beatles song, Carlos' writing always "lead me back ... to your door."

Consider that this story was written just as the worst pandemic in history began. Thankfully we had CDMX as an 'interim' CJ (OZ and Liebe) story to help us through a terrible two years.

And although this 'Final' (hmm?) chapter has been written, there is 'Everhope' (okay, stop groaning 😉 ) that more 'interim' stories are too come. After all, there are many family, friends and associates whose backstories we have yet to read about! (Carlos, that loud THUD you just heard / felt was a huge amount of 'virtual' mail landing on your doorstep, begging for more stories).

'Thank You' seems nowhere near enough.

Ps: Madame Chief Justice Obama is a nice twist. 😲 ⚖️

As far as I'm concerned, this is the end of the series. But you're right, I have some 20-30 stories I could write covering the time between graduation and inauguration. If I write multi-chapter long stories as many readers prefer, I could push it and get 2 or 3 written every year. Short stories may not give me room to cover minute details, but as I do with Wheels in 2022, I can still share certain important events. Plus, I need to get CJ and Ozzie to visit all 50 states. That means a few trips left to go. LOL

One chapter stories are great, we get glimpses into there life, almost every month. So in a way we're getting a long story, just each story covering a major event, until his inauguration as President.

That's my hope. I have lots of details about the characters in mind, and i want to share them.
