Cozy Contemplations - 36. Chapter 36 The Living Wind

Happier times...

The Living Wind

I listen to the living wind

And imagine I hear your voice again

The endearments you would whisper

At oft most inappropriate times

And I smile at the warmth it causes

I sniff the wind

And imagine it carries your scent

The heady aroma before making love

And the heavier musk that came after

And I sigh at the sweet pain it conjures

I feel the wind on my neck

And imagine your hand there

Your fingertips soft as cornsilk as they travel

Along intimate paths of old

And I tremble at the ghostly touch

I taste the raindrops riding the wind

And imagine the slide of your lips

Across those that still crave them

The wet soothes my parched and aching soul

And I stick my tongue out for more

I face the wind with eyes closed

And imagine you by my side

Reaching for my hand

As I lean forward

There again to keep me from falling

You will always be my wind

Coursing round my heart

And lifting me to places high

For you've made me see

Living wasn’t living… till I was loved by you

Poetry is awakening in me again... thanks for reading.

Oh Gary. I have a confession to make to you….I very, very rarely read poetry, but….this I did, and, of course, I cried. I cried for you, and for me. It really, really touched my heart. Thank you.

love, Coral

Thanks, Coral. I'm touched that it touched your heart. Tears can be a good thing, and I hope at least some of yours were.

God Gary I have to say one of your best poets. I could taste the words and they were sweet to me! Touched with a bit of sadness so perfectly portray! Thanks so much for sharing this wonder

Thanks, Albert. It is sad, but there also joy in remembering... and imagining him close again. Your words are very kind, my friend.

The imagery and the evocative nature of this poem was pure magic.  It said all that could be said about remembering and reliving those feelings of love for someone  no longer there for whatever reason...  Just Beautiful.

Thank you so much, centex. Words are beautiful things, and for me, poetry is about reaching out into the ether and hoping someone is listening and connecting to my offering... it's so nice to get a response such as this. I also find writing poetry therapeutic... a way to assuage the aches some memories stir. I appreciate your kind words, my friend...

Okay, the others have said how much this touched their hearts, and I can't add to that with my meager musings, so I'll only say this: No other poem I've read in my studies of English and American literature during college ever evoked so much emotion in me as this did.  Sure, they'd create imagery that was beautiful and grand, but on an emotional level--not to the extent your words raised in me.

Perhaps in my youth I was less sensitive?  I can't say, so I'll just leave it as it stands: impeccable, my dear Gary.

Wow. Thank you, CG. This means so much for a number of different reasons. I stopped writing poetry for quite a while--hard to explain why, but I really didn't want to--so this is only my second poem since the desire again stirred. I always write what I feel, and at my age, memories are the instigators. Cheers, my dear friend.
