By Chance or Appointment - 20. Sensation

My senses help me remember.
Any errors in these lines are entirely mind.

Some moments drip with wet and cold,

while others gleam in light and gold.

My old eyes

are no longer focused

on the gaunt tree beyond the window,

nor on the slope of your bare chest and lanky frame,

but I can see your smile well enough

to know the coming hours

will shine bright.

When through the air sweet flowers fly,

a breath of life is surely nigh.

*

I can scent

the Marlborough you smoked,

your still-damp skin marked by shower soap,

and sunlight on your sheets as your chin scrapes my neck

while everywhere your body touches

chases out the odor

of my fear.

 

~ ~ ~

 

A dance is to the feet as poetry to the soul;

like music sweet to make the spirit whole.

Fleetwood Mac

plays somewhere in the house

to cover over traffic outside

as we go our own way upstairs on rustling sheets

while ragged breathing recites sonnets;

your voice a wordless growl,

in my ear.

Beautiful!  It is indeed the full maturation of a relationship when each can see beyond the physical and experience the spiritual presence of another.

@pvtguy pretty much said what I wanted to say. Fleetwood Mac being on a good choice they write good lyrics but not any better then your words

You’re very kind. I think Fleetwood Mac has a wider audience than I do. I can still hear every sound, music included. Funny how memory works, isn’t it?
