By Chance or Appointment - 22. At the Feeder

Seven Haiku from the birdfeeder.

Two mourning doves perch,

Still and silent, as they watch

the early fog lift.

*

From the old lilac

the cardinal frets and cries

about the weather.

*

Chickadees flutter

to remove a single seed

and fly to their branch.

*

A goldfinch alights

and glances around the yard

for competition.

*

The grey squirrel feeds

looking over his shoulder

for the hawk’s shadow.

*

Slate-colored juncos

hop through drifts of spent seed shells

in search of breakfast.

*

Smaller birds scatter

when the woodpecker arrives

to claim the feeder.

Thank you for taking time to watch the winter birds with me.

What joy your poetry and garden are!  Thanks, Parker.

The sky is lighter now, and there’s much more to see every morning! Thank you for watching with me.

Thanks for joining me in watching out the window. This time of year means there’s more light to see by.

I think school kids would learn more about these animals daily lives from your haiku's rather than in class

That's an interesting thought.  Essentials of animal behavior through Haiku... thanks very much for watching the birds with me.

Lovely, all. Haiku were on my mind yesterday.

The birds seem to lend themselves to Haiku.  Each has its own character at the feeder. Thanks for looking out the window with me.

These give such a joy, vivid images of your garden and what you see from your window.

It's amazing how much activity at the feeder has increased with the lengthening of daylight.  I'm glad you can see some of it, too. Thanks very much.
