By Chance or Appointment - 23. Compassion's Neighborhood

Three skyscrapers, loosely linked by hope. Perhaps we can attribute their cause to spring.

Picture now

compassion’s neighborhood,

its houses glow in love’s bright colors,

where tolerant trees smile and dapple the sidewalks

for cherished friends who tarry beneath,

as children charge the streets

with laughter.

Imagine

a world where justice smiles

and ambles hand in hand with mercy

through sunlit green gardens grown where thorns and weeds swelled,

while kindness opens bright colored blossoms

to blue skies delighted

with their clouds.

Consider

a universe of peace,

its galaxies content to stay put,

no constellation set upon brute expansion,

and all that light from time’s beginning

shines with healing purpose

in the night.

Thanks again for taking time over these. I think they lend themselves to being read aloud with slow deliberation.

So reminiscent of Imagine by John Lennon...I love the imagery and the hope that comes through.  I do have difficulty picturing this in a metropolis.  I can't imagine raising a family surrounded by skyscrapers or row after row of apartment buildings.  I like the world presented in your verses!

Beautiful.

As good as a warm spring day, I hope.

I can only hope there are places remaining in this world where these visions might come true. Thanks very much for reading these.

What you're describing is what would be called Heaven.

For as smart as the human species is it seen they (We) are incapable or it.I so want to be wrong

Perhaps it is heaven, or something like it. I wish it were something we could all strive to build.

You'll not be surprised to learn that currently the third skyscraper speaks to me the most.  🤨😄 Learning about a universe driven by chance and implacable determinism is fascinating but your version is more gentle, more focused on things we can get our heads around. 😘

A universe more inclined to be less aggressively concerned with growth and expansion seems more likely to be kinder. Perhaps that’s just my fantasy, but I’ll stick to it. Thanks for thinking through these three poems.
