Scents seem to evoke strong memories for me; cut grass, evergreen, lilac - each brings different scenes to mind. Thanks very much for your response! 

I think the experiment worked perfectly.  The couplet provides a teaser, or in more workaday terms, an executive summary, followed by the details.  And, as expected, the details paint vivid, thought-provoking pictures.  All three are wonderful, but the second hit a home run, reminiscent of seasonal changes with successive walks through woods.

@Backwoods Boy I’m glad that you think these work. I propped up last year’s Christmas tree on a small trail behind my house, and I get a Yuletide zephyr every time I walk past. Thank you so much for your response and for reading!

Simply beautiful.  I could envision each passage with either visual or olfactory realism!  Thanks for sharing, as always.

No. 3 is stunning. I think it's moving in a sublime direction which you can build upon as a poet.

But I have to say I love No. 2 for the pleasant (and funny) memory it brings up in me. Our dear Leporello was about 13 months old when we dragged our first sorry example of a Christmas tree into the flat. It was free, an unbought straggler from the Christmas tree lot at Noe and Market Streets (set up in the sunken vacant lot where the Lutheran church had burned down several months earlier).  

That night, after we got the tree set up and figured out which direction 'the bad side' (the bald side, lol) should face, we stepped back to admire it. Leporello stepped up in our stead and promptly lifted his leg. 

We yelled at him, and he was clearly miffed at our damned-fool ways. If we're eccentric enough bring a tree into the living room, surely it's there to use, right? Anyway, he never peeded on it again, but once New Year rolled around, our tree -- the whole neighborhood of trees -- got set on the sidewalk. To enact his revenge, Leporello peed on every one he could find. He did that with obvious relish for the rest of his life. I'm sure to him, that was his Christmas!

Your story made me laugh! What a wonderful memory. I’m glad the second  poem was vivid enough to bring it back to you. I’m also glad you liked number three; it’s the mist visual of the set. Thanks very much for the inspiration for this group of poems. I look forward to trying more.
