Change of Heart - 2. Chapter 2

Jeff smiled knowing he was in an exceptionally good mood for no apparent reason. Not yet opening his eyes he also knew he was somewhere between dreams and fully awake. Feelings of euphoria swirled through his being. He mused for a moment, then recalled the night before. He and Paul had made love three times before falling asleep in near exhaustion. Smiling even more broadly, he wanted to shout out his exuberance at simply being alive and in love… in love? Suddenly aware of the extra body in his bed… not his bed… a bed… Paul's bed. For a moment he was reminded of Paul's sometimes stammering speech. That made his smile even bigger. Was he in love with Paul? As he mulled over the question his exuberance faded just to the point where he no longer had to fight the urge to shout.

Opening his eyes, he realized it was almost dawn. Paul was curled against his left side with his head resting on Jeff's shoulder. His right hand was loosely wrapped around Jeff's engorged manhood while his left knee was resting against Jeff's nuts. Right now the pressure was quite pleasant but, depending on how he moved, Paul's awakening could prove quite painful for Jeff.

He fought a sudden urge to pull Paul closer as if he could literally, physically squeeze him into his heart. He would force himself to be content with breathing in more of that lemony woodsy scent. Maybe it was his shampoo?

Even as his olfactory sense hungered for more of Paul's scent, his euphoric state was quickly supplanted by an urgent need to relieve his bladder. Gently, so as not to awaken his lover… “his lover”, that was certainly a new concept. Slowly he extricated himself from Paul's embrace. Even as he made to rise, the bed squeaked. Paul's only response was to moan softly. That made Jeff's cock throb at the memory of similar sounds from last night and earlier this morning.

Finding his wranglers, it was a painful struggle to capture his manhood within denim. It looked like he was growing a third leg. He didn't want to embarrass anyone by walking naked to the bathroom... Barefoot and without a shirt, he unlocked the bedroom door and stepped into the hallway. Tiptoeing, he slunk quietly toward the next door. Gently easing it open, he saw the Princess draped across an oversized teddy bear much like her father had been draped over him only moments before. Without thinking he stealthily moved to her bed and replaced the covers she kicked off in her sleep. For a moment he simply marveled at her perfect innocence. He leaned over and gently kissed her soft curls.

Turning to make his escape he almost jumped out of his skin to see Paul watching him from the doorway. Quelling any response until they were in the hallway, he whispered, “You ‘bout scared the life out of me!”

“Yeah, I thought you were gonna jump clear ‘cross the bed. Funniest thing I’ve seen in awhile. You don't look like you're dressed for leaving so I guess you need the bathroom too.” With that Paul indicated the only other door, and led the way.

Holding open the door and flipping on the light, he indicated Jeff should enter first. Following him, Paul locked the door. Noting the questioning look, “Force of habit. Five-year-olds are very curious and have yet to learn proper boundaries.” The light of understanding shown on Jeff's face and he nodded.

Both men, dressed in jeans, approached the porcelain throne. Jeff was almost giddy with relief as his stream crossed with Paul's. He was also pleased that the raging hardon he’d struggled with earlier had softened noticeably. As he milked out the last drops he watched as Paul finished up and rolled the foreskin to once again cover the head. He tried to do the same but his cock wasn't cooperating. With a mind of its own, it insisted on lengthening and exposing part of the glans.

“Does that thing ever relax?”, Paul challenged.

“It likes you and I can see the feeling is mutual”, nodding toward Paul's own engorged manhood. Taking Paul's cock in his left hand he forced him to step back against the door. Releasing his cock, Jeff opened the medicine cabinet and said, “Aha!” A slight pause as he lifted the bottle to his lips, “I must warn you, I sometimes have morning breath.” Taking a swig, he replaced the cap and then the bottle. Ignoring Paul's attempt to claim some mouthwash for himself, he turned on the tap and spat the residue into the sink. Cupping his hand, he rinsed his mouth with water. Turning off the water, he smacked his lips and said, "Ah, that's better." Taking Paul's head in his hands he whispered, “share mine”. With that, his ‘minty fresh’ tongue began to scour every inch inside Paul's mouth. Paul, for his part, tried to swallow the mint flavored intruder.

Jeff took both, now leaking, cocks in his right hand and began to stroke them. Taking a half step back, he leaned into Paul, leaving enough room for his busy right hand.

Paul put his hands to work plowing through Jeff's chest hair and toying with his nipples. When he began to pinch them, Jeff moaned into his mouth and increased his jack off speed. Now both were huffing into each other's mouths trying to get enough air without breaking the kiss.

Jeff signaled he was about to cum with a growl and by biting and sucking on Paul's lower lip. Paul was more than ready. He began twisting Jeff's nipples even as his first spurt painted both chests. Jeff's first shot immediately followed and splattered Paul's chin. By the time it was done, both chests were streaked with cum. Jeff brought his cum covered fist up to eye level. Grinning broadly at Paul, he extended his tongue and licked a goodly dab of cum. All the while, holding eye contact with Paul.

Paul took hold of Jeff's hand, pursed his lips and sucked then licked the remaining cum from atop Jeff's fist. Then, while holding Jeff's heated gaze, smacked his lips to show how tasty it had been.

Jeff was about to show just how tasty he thought Paul was when he was interrupted by the rattling of the bathroom doorknob. “Daddy, are you in there? I gotta go pee!” The urgency in Maria's voice was evident.

“Just a minute, honey.” While that was being said, the two men were working with Olympic speed to make themselves presentable. Well, as presentable as two men dressed only in jeans could be. Once that was accomplished Paul unlocked and opened the door.

Maria’s face took on a look of pleasant surprise, “Hello, Mr. Jeff. Did you have a sleepover with Daddy? Daddy says I’m too young to have sleepovers. If I could I would have already asked you.” Then as if remembering her mission, she grabbed her crotch and mumbled what sounded like “I gotta go potty”. With that, she stepped between the two men, rushed into the bathroom and closed the door behind her.

The men looked at each other blankly. Then began to snigger trying hard to hold back the belly laugh that threatened to break loose. Paul led Jeff into the kitchen. After taking a couple of deep breaths to regain his composure, he softly said, “Well, that went better than expected. I thought having to explain your presence at breakfast would be a challenge, to say the least. Now it would be impossible to explain your absence.”

Even though they were standing close Jeff reached out and pulled Paul into his arms. Searching his eyes while firmly grasping Paul's butt, he asked, “I think that went better than we could have hoped. Are you ok? I just need to know... Between what happened last night and this morning... are you good with us… you, me and Maria? You know I meant what I said last night. I want to be a part of your lives. If you don't want that, or if you need time. I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.”

"Something you will learn about fathers is that nothing is more important than their children. There may be other significant people in their lives, even people they love more than life itself, but no one can be more important than their children. Can you accept that?"

"I would be disappointed in you if you didn't feel that way. Yes, I can accept that about our relationship. Can you accept that I want to have everything with you and Maria? Do you understand that I want to be with you two, the two of you, the three of us together, all the time? From now on? That I may push for more than you are ready to give? Can you be patient with my impatience?"

"When you explained about 'being good enough for Christmas' to a five-year-old, you stole a piece of my heart. Then when I watched you cover her up, gently kiss her and watch her sleep. I was touched by your tenderness. In both those instances, I saw a man I would be proud to know and proud for my daughter to know. I don't think I'm ready to 'jump the broomstick' but I am ready to get to know you better."

"That'll do, for now." Jeff sealed the deal with a quick peck on the lips, then guiltily looked around for Maria.

"She has most likely gone back to bed. We don't usually get up this early on a non-school day. If I don't have something scheduled I try to spend time with her. As you have seen I get called at odd hours. That means I either drag her with me or impose on your Aunt. She has been a godsend for me and Maria.

"I have been talking to one of the two vet clinics in town. Figure I would have a more dependable schedule if I signed on with them. I would have signed with either one when I got here but neither had the room. I have kind of taken up the slack. Since then I have learned I really don't mesh with the senior vet at one clinic. I would have been miserable working with her. I sort of gravitated to the Veterinarian Care Clinic. I do all my surgeries there and sometimes fill in for one of their doctors. There were three vets until recently. Seems the junior guy got a better offer and left them short-handed. It is evident that these two guys are life partners. They live together but, they aren't flamboyant or feminine. You can just see the love between them. In any case, I intend to make my orientation clear. I'd rather get that out in the open so it won't be a problem later on down the road.

"We are set up to meet tomorrow morning. I am sure I am not the only one interested nor the only one being interviewed. Still, if all goes well, come the first week in January, you are looking at a future partner of the Veterinarian Care Clinic."

While this discussion was going on, Paul was busy making coffee. He asked how Jeff liked his coffee Jeff hesitated, "Well, I'd like to taste your coffee before I answer that. Normally, if it's good I like it black. If it is a little rough I add some cream. If it's god awful, then it's cream and sugar. So far I have not encountered that which could not be redeemed with sufficient quantities of either or both. Even if it gets to the point where it's like drinking syrup. If you've ever had my Aunt Mellie's coffee you know what I mean. I have watched Uncle Joe pour it down the drain when he knows she's not looking. Thank god Rosa is on hand most of the time."

"I'll make sure we have cream and sugar available at all times. Maybe I'll make you the designated barista. That way you can't have a complaint."

"When I make coffee in my apartment it's those one cup at a time deals where the coffee and the water are pre-measured. It makes a decent cup every time. Even Aunt Mellie couldn't mess that up. Hey, that would be a great gift for Uncle Joe for his office."

"I might look into one of those myself. I pour a lot of stale coffee down the drain." With that, Paul poured two mugs and passed one to Jeff. Jeff took a cautious sip then grinned broadly, "Pass the cream and sugar, please." Paul looked at him sternly as if in a challenge. Jeff busted out laughing and said, "Just kidding. It's greeeaat!" To prove his point he took a large gulp. Immediately he slammed the mug down onto the breakfast counter and made a mad dash for the kitchen sink. Once there he forcefully spat out the scalding hot coffee.

Paul snickered as Jeff tried to rinse the heat from his mouth. "You should have learned by now; god'll getchu for lyin'." Still grinning, Paul refilled Jeff's mug and suggested, "Let's go sit in the living room."

"You know if Maria's asleep, we could uh..."

"Don't even think about it. Believe me, as tempting as you are... We dodged a big bullet already this morning. Let's not push our luck. Their brains don't process logic or data like a supposedly adult brain. Like this morning, an adult would have surely guessed what we had been up to in the bathroom."

After they sat side by side on the lumpy sofa, Paul continued, "That may be a hard lesson to learn but when there are children around your time is seldom your own. The one thing they crave unrelentingly is your constant attention. I figure when they have the attention of someone they feel loves them, they feel safe. Something for you to contemplate; children get sick, cranky and/or contentious with no rhyme or reason. And that's without contemplating puberty and teenage angst."

"I'm not trying to focus on the negative here. Really, in my opinion, all the negatives are offset by the unconditional love they offer. It may sound like a cliche, but being a parent can be the most challenging and rewarding experience you'll ever have."

Jeff took Paul's hands in his and said, "Seriously Paul, I can see it won't be easy. I know I've been very fortunate in some aspects of my life. I have also experienced profound loss. I can't really tell you how devastated I was when I lost both my parents at the same time. For a while, I couldn't see a way to carry on. If I hadn't had Uncle Joe and Aunt Mellie... well, I am not sure I'd even be here. When families support each other they can accomplish things that seem impossible to an individual. They taught me that. I know we'll have challenges, I think all families do. I want us to be a family more than anything. I want us to deal with those challenges together. If you haven't figured it out by now... I love you and I love my princess."

At that moment a still sleepy little girl came into the living room, climbed up into Jeff's lap and said, "We love you too, Mr. Jeff", then seemingly drifted back to sleep.

Paul could only smile as he watched tears cloud Jeff's eyes.

It was sometime later when Jeff awoke to find Maria was no longer in his lap. Muted conversation coming from the kitchen implied she and her daddy were making breakfast. Jeff stood, stretched and decided, not only was the sofa lumpy it was also decidedly uncomfortable. Taking his mug with him he went to join his family in the kitchen.

"Well, hello sleepyhead", Paul greeted.

"Hi sleepyhead", Maria parroted.

"How long was I out?

"Not long. It's still early. We thought we'd get breakfast ready and then wake you up. Were we too noisy?"

"No. I think it was just time for me to get up. Is there anything I can do? I can be pretty helpful in the kitchen." Jeff moved to the sink and washed his hands.

Paul noticed, "See hon, the first thing thing you should do when you come in the kitchen to get food or to prepare food is to wash you hands. It can help keep us all from getting sick. It gets the germs off your hands so they don't get spread around. Do you remember learning how you can't see germs without a microscope? Then to Jeff, "I know you can be quite handy in other rooms, as well", Paul offered with a snigger. "Can you watch the bacon, while I get these biscuits in the oven? I just need to dab each biscuit with a bit of your meat drippings." Paul used a spoon to collect bacon grease from the hot cast iron skillet. The smug grin on Paul's face let Jeff know exactly what meat 'dripping' he was referring to.

"Yes daddy, I member seeing germs from my hand with your mike-row-scope. Germs are mostly bad. They are everywhere. We can stay not sick if we keep our hands clean." This came out almost like she was reciting a litany. "I think boys are germy, specially Bobby Kingman, he doesn't use tissues. He uses his hand like this..." Taking the palm of her right hand, she rested the butt of her hand against her upper lip and pushed up while inhaling deeply. She then wiped her hand on her pants leg.

Jeff laughed out loud. Paul gave him a look that said, 'don't encourage her'. Turning back to his daughter, he said, "Eew! That's disgusting! I certainly hope you don't ever do that again. Even if you are just showing someone how he does it. Now go to the bathroom, wash your hands again and then set the table."

Once she scampered away, Jeff said, "After some of the things we did last night, I think it might be harsh to say that that was 'eew, disgusting'. I think it fell more into the category of 'icky'."

"I have learned some things need a more dramatic response with her. She's pretty smart and picks up on things that you wouldn't expect a child her age to notice. For instance what you said about your Uncle Joe not liking the coffee your Aunt makes... she mentioned that to me some time ago. Did you know that your Uncle always takes an apple to your horse when he visits the stables? Or that your Aunt Mellie gets a nervous tick in her left cheek when she speaks to someone she doesn't like. I sometimes exaggerate my reaction if I really want to get my point across. You should understand that how you react to what she says and does is like an object lesson for her. Our reactions validate or reject her view of the world as she sees it."

Looking around carefully, to make sure the coast is clear, Jeff pulled Paul into his arms asking, "How did I manage to find such a smart daddy?" Then quickly bussed a kiss against Paul's neck which caused him to visibly shiver.

"Keep that up and daddy may have to discipline his boy." With that he smacked Jeff smartly on the butt. Then casually began to wipe down the counter, ignoring the sexual tension that suddenly permeated the air.

Maria, standing in the kitchen doorway, asked, "Did that hurt, Mr. Jeff? Daddy sometimes threatens to spank me if I am naughty. But he never hits me. Specially not that hard."

Jeff put down the spatula, moved to Maria and picked her up. "Honey, your daddy smacked my butt to make a point. It's like with Trigger, you've met him right?" She nodded and Jeff continued, "Sometimes I smack him on the butt to get his attention. It doesn't hurt him, it just gets his attention so he listens carefully to what I want him to do. Just like you, your daddy would never hurt me. You understand?"

Nodding dramatically she confirmed, "Yes, cause he loves me and he loves you. But what did he want you to pay attention to?"

"He thought my laughing at you doing that hand/nose thing might get you to thinking it was ok for you to do it without using a tissue."

Focusing on her father, she said, "That's silly. Laughing doesn't make it ok. I would never do something so icky! That's what makes boys so gross."

The men fought to hide their smiles.

Jeff was impressed with the biscuits and let Paul know by eating four with lots of butter and strawberry jam. "I can't believe how much I ate! Those biscuits were the best bar none. Maybe part of it was the company but, I can't remember a breakfast I have enjoyed as much as this one. Princess, you scrambled those eggs just right." Maria beamed at the praise.

After everybody helped with the cleanup, it was decided they would go to Jeff's Uncle's ranch to ride the horses. After a quick transfer of Maria's booster seat to the Tahoe, they were off. As they passed his house Jeff wondered if Rosarita was suffering from a hangover. He'd have to make sure to thank her for the great advice.

An interesting chapter; dealing with a small child this early in a relationship is always interesting... Children do understand much more than some adults give them credit for; even some that are parents.

Yeah, I know my children surprised me more than a few times with their insights.

Thanks for the review. Jim

And now, in the morning after, you show us Jeff and Paul in a somewhat more practical mood. They have a real discussion about moving forward, even as things have already happened so fast. Do they feel that, too?

Jeff was already for a change... is Paul on the same page?

Thanks for the review.

Late to this story, but enjoying it very much. A child in a gay romance, well, in fact, any romance, does add a level of tension and challenge. The two leads are well drawn, i look forward to their development!

It's never too late to review one of my stories. Thanks for taking your time to do so. Maria, like most of my characters just showed up without my planning or permission.

I hope you enjoy the tale as it unfolds.

Thank you for a beautiful story. Looking forward to seeing what journey you take us on. What sent does Paul smell on Jeff. Paul and Maria's dents have both been described.  My guess is leather and clover. Thanks again.

Thank you for posting your comment. I didn't get a notification. I just was scanning through previous chapters and there it was. As to Jeff's smell clover and leather would be a cologne I would absolutely buy.

Thanks again,

And now they're practically moved in together. What will you write about in all the other chapters?  Well, I wouldn't mind more of that hot sex, and I love they fact they're both uncut. I'll even forgive you the mouthwash, though normally I stop reading and commenting on stories which buy into that advertising gimmick.:rolleyes: He could have taken a dab of toothpaste just as easily.

I've used the dab of toothpaste, on occasion.😜 But, I actually prefer mouthwash, I am such a sellout. If you quit reading because of mouthwash, I have little hope of keeping your interest. I just ain't that good. You are the first poster to mention "hot sex". No one ever says anything about that and I put a lot of myself 😳into writing those scenes. Circumcision is most often an unnecessary and obviously painful procedure that only serves to reduce sensitivity.

Thanks again for posting your comments.

Why is it going so fast?

It was intended as a one chapter tale. Chapter one is a complete romantic tale.

The makings of a great family story spiced with hot sex. I enjoy reading the sex bits because I never had the experience since I spent most of my life married to a dear woman who was my best friend.

I remember my boys talking about "icky girls" that was four grandsons ago. Some tastes change as we grow.

I like how the story focuses on love as opposed to sex or the politics of the situation. Although it feels like they all fell in love very quickly I would like to see them work a bit harder at letting themselves fall, perhaps this is still to come…

both men have lessons they have learned through observations as they grew and in trusting too soon...  caution is seldom a criminal whereas the foolhardy often pay a penalty.
