Dune Movie 2021

Please no one tell @Cia, but I still have not read Frank Herbert's Dune.  Though I have seen 2021 Dune movie starring Timothée Chalamet. I enjoyed the visuals a lot in this movie.  It can been a bit slow at times, but it was nice to disconnect and just enjoy it.  They made one hell of a big set up... I hope all the changes at going on a Discovery/Warner Bros doesn't ruin a sequel for this.

Hiding

PT #83 It’s a matter of common knowledge among friends and family that the protagonist of your story despises a certain person. Ironically, this very person dies in a freak accident at their house. As no one would believe this, they have to hide the body. Help them.   PT#84 In order to avoid the pesky marriage-soon-trigger, Ash doesn’t date, officially. Find the most outrageous excuses to tell the family or — just tell them a truth of your choice, preferably all nicely boxed

The Conflict Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Obstacles, Adversaries, and Inner Struggles (Vol 2)

Well, the last one was Vol 1, so Vol 2 should not be a surprise.  I've taken the picture myself of the book on my desk. The X Thesaurus series of books continues with Conflicts Volume 2.  This is a continuation of various conflicts you come across and all the ins and outs of that conflict.  Like volume 1, this book helps you make sure your conflicts are well-rounded and engage the senses and emotions. Like all the other books in this series, it adds to your writer's toolkit.  It's wor

What's in a Theme?

Themes can make or break an anthology, as our recent Anniversary anthology showed.  The theme spoke to a lot of site authors and exceeded my challenge to have twenty stories for GA’s twentieth anniversary.  The next few anthology blogs will be focusing on theme selection, writing for a theme, and submitting ideas for next year’s anthology.  I’m excited to announce we have a guest blog post for next week.  CassieQ has written a great article about how to write for a theme, so be sure to check it

Forza Horizon 5

One of the ways I try to maintain my sanity is to unplug from the craziness of the real world and just do mindless fun activities.  Forza Horizon 5 is one of the nicest looking games I've seen.  It is hands down the best arcade racer style game out there.  It's huge and it's free as part of Xbox Game Pass. (PC, Xbox, Cloud - $15 a month... if you aren't doing bing searches with microsoft rewards and getting it all for free...) This is my go to game for a few minutes of relaxing each night.

The Conflict Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Obstacles, Adversaries, and Inner Struggles (Vol 1)

The Conflict Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Obstacles, Adversaries, and Inner Struggles (Volume 1) (Writers Helping Writers Series) by Becca Puglisi and Angela Ackerman. I have been doing a fair bit of reading on various aspects of writing.  This entire series of books is worth a read and having on your shelf if you are trying to enhance your writing skills.  Each one of the books focuses on as aspect of writing. This one is on Conflicts.  The book gives a high level conflict type and then

Raising a Rebel Chapter 10 is now live!

Chapter 10 It took a bit longer than usual to publish a new chapter of this story, but sometimes, good things come to those who wait   I know I am opening up a lot of knowledge in this chapter about the ancient world, the nature of cultural differences, urban organization, and some respective observations about both Chinese and Roman/Western Civilization. They're both looking at the world through different lenses, but there's also some fallacies that each side holds in regard to themse

October Signature Feature: Let the Music Play by CJames

Sometimes it feels like life is just a grind, with no way things will change, much less for the better. This time of year can feel that way, right? Before the holidays really hit it off, when we're all feeling the drag of our routines... just like Brandon before he got an unexpected turn in his journey. I admit, looking for a good visual inspiration sucked me back into this story and I couldn't stop reading until late, or early, depending on how you look at it. CJames never disappoints, so give
