    Building a mystery!

    By Cole Matthews

If you know me at all, you know I love a good mystery story.  Dame Agatha Christie, Jonathan Kellerman, Joseph Hansen, Martha Grimes, Earl Derr Biggers, Dashiell Hammett, Robert Parker, Minette Walters, Joe Lansdale, Wilkie Collins, and many many more all come to mind.  There is something intriguing about a whodunit or even a whydonit.  They are also such fantastic period pieces, where you journey to another place and live in a different time.  You can read about Dave Brandstetter in the 19

Grammar Guide 10 - Conjunctions

Welcome to tenth Grammar Guide!  This week we are going to be talking all about FANBOYS!  Well, Myr & Cia are working together to talk about conjunctions, but FANBOYS are part of it.  We'll get to that shortly. Conjunctions join two parts of a sentence together, and there are four types of conjunctions: Coordinating Conjunctions Coordinating Conjunctions - a conjunction placed between words, phrases, clauses, or sentences of equal rank. The Wheel of Time: A Rambling, Digression Filled Review

The Wheel of Time: A Rambling, Digression Filled Review By: A Fan of the Books So somewhere & somewhen, I started replying in a Wheel of Time: The Series thread and realized after a few pages that it was way too long to post in a thread. Plus it was filled with colorful metaphors, talks of naughty bits, and generally senseless ramblings that I decided about that time for a new Blog Entry by the amazing Jason Rimbaud. Or is that the absent Rimbaud? Doesn’t matter. But before I

March CSR Feature: Ridley by Krista

Welcome to March's CSR! I've decided to feature a short-novel length story that's bound to create a connection for many of us to those youthful teen days which resonated with the many readers who read, commented, and reviewed Ridley by Krista. I hope you will enjoy the story if you haven't read it yet and will come back on the discussion day to help encourage Krista to write part two... if she isn't already. Hmm... maybe a question for the interview? Ridley by @Krista Length: 33,4

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 27 - Mar. 5)

Well howdy ho good neighbours   So let me start off to say that all the blogs and comments from some of the Northern Hemisphere peeps stating that spring is starting to show up or it's coming... STOP  In my neck of the woods March and April I believe are our heaviest snowfall months of the years. Get a huge dump, melts off a few days later, huge dump, melts off a few days later, repeat. I sure we sell more windshield (windscreen  ) washer fluid than most places in the next two months.

One of the many pitfalls that a writer might face when taking a more 'organic' approach to writing a story is possibly running into a flurry of decisions that you made in the heat of the moment and may change your mind on those decisions later on. When I talk about an organic approach, I mean having a certain structure and plot in mind...but still giving yourself room to create on the spot as new ideas come to mind. I definitely write that way, and I feel like it connects me to my stories in way

March 4th Round Robin

A Round Robin isn’t a fat bird.   It’s actually a lot of things, but the only interesting definition concerning prompts is that it is a form of storytelling. There are several variations. Let’s try two. PT# 27 Tell a story that begins at the same place as it ends.   PT# 28 Find at least one fellow author and tell a story together. Write its paragraphs or sentences alternatively.
