Like @Bill W, my insurance plan (an amalgam of various insurance players) offers free rides to and from healthcare appointments. I tried the service for the first time last week. Unfortunately, the driver to my appointment was late (although, to be fair, I did arrive on time) and the tiny little Toyota Prius car reeked of smoke (even though it was cold out I didn't complain when he left his front window open), yuck. He ate snacks and talked on the phone for nearly the whole one hour ride. F -
We use both Uber and local taxis. We use local cabs to haul groceries home and Uber for longer trips. Uber is cheaper for longer rides. -

When we worked in Boston for the longest time, we were at the mercy of the taxi companies; a medallion to own, operate, or rent a taxi from another driver cost between 200,000 and 250,000 dollars, certainly not chicken feed.
