    Upcoming Events Reminder

    By Valkyrie

First, I'd like to wish all our American members a very Happy Thanksgiving!  I will be spending the day at my aunt's, stuffing my face with turkey and all the sides   I'd be perfectly happy with a plate full of stuffing and gravy, though.  🤤 I am thankful for everyone who makes this site as awesome as it is!  I'm also thankful for everyone who participates in site events, such as the anthologies and other contests run throughout the year.     Speaking of site events, we have two

"Help me believe, it's not the real me"

Don't try to make sense of this blog in the order in which it appears. Each paragraph is pretty much random and self-contained.   I got that new job. *sigh* It's insurance again, this time life. At least I'll be able to jump in more quickly this time since I still have my active license from last time. I start training Monday, the following Monday I'm supposed to go with someone out on the field, then the Monday after that I'll be on my own. I'm not completely sure how I feel about it. I

Not the full quid

It's 7:20am and I'm adding another entry to my blog? A bloke's not the full quid. But I need to get the fingers and gray soup happening before I finish #27 of Horace Fink.   Sooooooo, what is a gay author? An author who writes about gays or an author who IS gay? Silly question, I know, but like I said it's early. To my knowledge, Agatha Christie never murdered anyone in real life so maybe that's the answer.   I figured out that I'll need to buy a new globe for the loo in 27.3 years. It's on

The war is lost

"Drugs are easier to get, cheaper and more potent...the war is lost." So says an expert on a current affairs program airing at the mo. Meanwhile, the pollies argue in ivory towers that have nothing to do with grass roots. It's a worry. Actually, it's pathetic. The interviewee goes on to say, "ask yourself where is the easiest place to get drugs? And the answer is in jail."   Why any kid would want to put sand in his fuel tank or f**K with the mother board of his computer is beyond me. WE ARE W

Piffle

I like the word 'piffle', not that I use it often...actually, this could be the first time ever. Piffle, piffle, piffle. Nancy, my grossly overweight neighbor from a few years ago, used 'piffle' occasionally. She wore outrageous hats...big ostentatious floppy things with bows and flowers and assorted wobbly bits. She was known locally as 'the hat lady'. One time I turned an old gas copper washer into (what I thought was a brilliantly creative) planter pot, and moved it to her side of the yard fo

Life is.... good?

Alright well I wouldn't say life is perfect right now, but it's gotten a hell of a lot better the past week or so despite my near-death experience on Saturday night.   I'll start with me nearly killing myself. It's rained here on and off for the past week or so. Well I was driving up to Grapevine for a party with some friends and it hadn't rained in a while. The roads were dry... or so they appeared. Now if you ask anyone that knows me, they'll tell you flat out that I'm a speeder. I don't dri

Easy when you know how

Thanks to Camy, I now know the meaning of Lexicon. Nope...it's not a Toyota and it has nothing to do with some crook trying to pinch your Lexi. So, there ya go, ya learn something every day. Also, while I'm in a mood, Myr helped me with formatting The Inevitable Murder of Horace Fink on eFiction (to delete the dark blue background). He must be a genius, that bloke. Is he responsible for the programming on GA? The site is incredibly user friendly (even for fossils). BTW, due to overwhelming de

Just a click away!

Yeah, right... be careful what you click. I happily did the mouse trick a couple of times today and accidentally deleted stuff. "Gimme that back!" "Too late!" "But I need it!" "Be more careful next time!" Bleh. You know those little 'are you sure' windows? I need about ten of those. Myr went to a lot of trouble to sort out my 'skin' prob with the posted story on eFiction. He fixed chapter one and told me how to fix the rest. Click! *Poof* Gone!   My housemate and his missus will travel to Engl

Friends

I added a few friends to my blog today...Camy because he's a cheeky Pom, Jack Scribe because he bends over backwards (note, not forwards) to be of assistance to newbies, and ... well, I shouldn't mention his name just yet cuz he needs to approve my listing him as a friend. He's picky like that. I've been somewhat involved in other blog sites where EVERYBODY wants to be your friend, not because they like you, oh, no, but because of something they call NETWORKING. Ugh! How ikky and heartless! Not

Bastards...

So I think Ive just cut three people, one an asshole named Jake, one was a fairly good friend named Kevin and the other would be ranked as close to best friend as you could get, Rafael, out of my life. As friends I mean. The problem is that we're all in the same show and classes at school, and see each other constantly for hours and hours. Its not like Im ignoring them; I hear them say stuff to me - Im sorry, It was wrong, blah blah blah, but I really just dont care. No thats a lie. I do care. A

The Inevitable Murder of Horace Fink

Okies, I bowed to incredible pressure from millions of GA members and posted the first chapter of TEMOHF. BUT, dumb dumb here made some kinda boo boo cuz it's got a dark blue background and I couldn't find a way to GET RID OF IT! So I contacted GA to ask why. The story is posted in eFiction. I've written 26 chapters so far, so be patient...all will be revealed soon enough. Actually, the story is not finished yet but I anticipate the final chapter sometime around July. I generally write about two

just... argh~!

Why do I have to feel like I have to defend myself all the time? I mean if I want to be who I am, and have the friends I want to have, and read what I want to read, and write the stories I want to write, why the f**K should you care? And, more importantly, why do I have to feel like I have to justify my choices about those things?   "Why is every story you write a 'gay story'?"   "They aren't 'gay stories'," I say. "They are stories that happen in the lives of people, some of whom happen to

Infinity

An Aussie singer/musician of Aboriginal extraction (with a splash of Irish) was interviewed the other day about his music. The entire interview was interesting but what really struck a chord with me was the man's Aboriginality and his love of the land. I'd love you to come out, my friend, and just experience that. And the majesty of a night-time, looking at the night sky and that feeling, that total spirituality. The quietness. Like, you can feel infinity touching you. That last sentence really

WARNING! Personal revelations, read at your own risk

So this Sunday my dad will have been dead 5 years. Five years ago the 27th fell on a Monday. I remember that because it was Memorial Day. I have always found that to be fitting in a strange way. My dad (who was really my grandfather

Helluva bloke

Coming Undone says I sound like a helluva bloke and that, at least, I made him laugh. Always the joker a friend once told me. Well, yes, humor rules. Helluva bloke? I dunno about that. The only time I stand out is when all the other passengers in an elevator leave...and that's why I rely on the keyboard to put my mind on exhibition. There's a helluva lotta weirdo stuff that goes on in there that's not apparent when I'm standing in an elevator watching the various floor numbers light up on the pa

what are you?

I was thinking yesterday on my drive home from work, where they had asked me to cover someone's shift on my day off who was apparently supposed to get suspended, and then didn't, and then when I walked in they said, "Oh shit! I forgot to call you to say nevermind..." and I was wondering if being optimistic is the same thing as having faith?   To me, being optimistic means you hope for the best, hope that things will work out well, but having faith... well that's a different matter altogether.

Soapboxes and tippling

Yes, it's a fatal mistake to provide me with a soapbox. I'm an incurable yabberer. Prob is, I'm also a keen tippler and I tend to write these things in the evening when I'm... well, a tad merry. And I wake in the morning and say, "OMG! What the bloody hell did I write last night!" Yes, dear Breth, I'm a worry.   Meanwhile, a visitor left a message asking "how's Ned?" For the uninitiated, Ned Kelly was an infamous and notorious bushranger in Oz in the late 19th century. He was hanged at age 24

On Laptops and Accessories

I got a PM from a student requesting advice on buying a notebook PC and I thought that I would share my suggestions here in my blog. These are just a few of my thoughs and suggestions. I would be delighted if it gave anybody inspiration or ideas. If not, well... it is here for free. _________________________________________________________________________   I suggest either HP or Dell. Both are very solid and priced competetivly. The Thinking Fossil's Blog

Yes, I'm a thinker and a fossil. My best friend called me a fossil 10 years ago! Cheeky bugger. But, he also called me AOD (awesome old dude) because I called him OAD (one awesome dude). It was one of those silly mutual thingies.   However, since becoming addicted to writing, I've discovered that thinking is like any other exercise... it encourages growth. Years ago, a friend accused me of thinking too much (I was 21). I wonder what he would say now. Ya know, I suspect that most people don't

This is what happened

So for anyone who might be wondering how my move went, and more specifically what I've been up to for the past three weeks. Here's the deal:   Thursday, May 3rd: My move in date is set for Friday May 11th. However, I find out that it's a friend's graduation on that day so I call the new apartment complex to see if I can move in on the 10th instead. "Fine", they say. I set up my utilities to be turned in at the new place on the 9th.   Saturday, May 5th: I call to confirm the move in date.

they came, he cheered, guess what?

... I'm still short   So I was at work on Saturday and may have witnessed one of life's oddities... This woman, at least 50, in way too short shorts, flip flops, and fake blond hair is complaining that her husband bought her some tulips from the store and that they aren't fresh. Apparently in her quest for the ultimate tulip she complained to someone in the department who allegedly told her that if she wants fresh tulips she'll probably have to go to Holland. Now, while I could see one of the

Will not be online much

Well, Scott and I had a major argument today. Not sure where things are going to go from this point. But I guess the root of all my evils is the time I spend on the computer. From my perspective, the amount of time I spend on the computer is the effect and not the cause, but who am I to know anything. But I'm tired of the argument. So, I'm going to be staying off the computer for a while. Not completely, because I don't want to lose touch with some people. So will still be on long enough
