    Today's the Day!

    By Valkyrie

Anthology Stories are due today! Get those final touches done on your story and send it to me by midnight, EST tonight so I can get it assigned to a Proof Team member! There are lots of burning questions... Did we break the 20 story barrier? Who participated? How many stories did they write? When will the stories go live? Which theme has more stories? Of course, I'm not going to answer any of them now   You'll have to wait and anticipate!

CSR- Can't Stop Reading

July's CSR: Look Back at 2025's Secret Author!

That's right, to whet your whistle, so to speak, this month we're looking back at last year's submissions to the Secret Author contest! Authors maybe aren't sure how to incorporate a Secret/Forbidden topic into the story or just how tangential it can be, these stories could be the inspiration needed (you never know which new author may take up the mantle for the contest once they have a reference!) Readers, well... sometimes we all enjoy a 2nd, 3rd, or more look back at content from our favorite

Weekly Wrap Up (Jun. 28 - Jul. 4)

Well a belated Happy 250th Birthday to our American neighbours  Someone told me @Myr came over, not on the Mayflower, but another boat and tossed tea into Boston Harbour . Seems kind of far fetched though  . So question 1 for all out Weekly Wrap Up readers, if you live in the U S of A, did you do anything special on Saturday or Saturday night. Or are you still celebrating on Sunday AM when this is posted? 250 years is quite a long time, in North American terms. Also a happy belat

Dress Less

This must have been the motto last week. I saw colleagues wearing colorful lounge pants or skirts to work, who would have denied even owning such clothes the day before. The boss man walked around in shorts and Birkenstocks. And don’t forget the guy in the loose linen shirt, wide-brimmed hat, and dark shades. All I say is… You Can Leave Your Hat On. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdwIKTLP_3Q Ehem… To the prompts. PT Prompt #348   Someone sits in a café off a crowded str

Wow, it's July 1st already?! There's a time warp somewhere, I swear. Or some sort of spell on my life at times, perhaps from a book of Forbidden Knowledge? Or each day I pass through the front door and enter a rift through which I lose time due to... well, who knows? What isn't forbidden is reminding all my site author friends that they need to get their themed stories to me ASAP if they want to participate in this year's fun! Click the banner to go to the event details. And readers, get ready t

The First Questions Every Story Needs to Answer

A story does not fail because the writer lacked ideas. More often, it fails because the reader cannot tell what kind of promise the story is making. This week’s Writing Resources focus on the first questions every story needs to answer before the plot gets complicated, the cast expands, or the chapters start stacking up. Who is this story about? What does that person want? What is standing in the way? Why should the reader care now? Those questions sound simple, but

Life's a Zoo

When I was a kid, I loved going to the zoo and seeing the animals.  I still do, even though I haven't gone in ages.  Most people love the monkeys or the lions and tigers, but my favorite was always the capybara exhibit.  I think it's because it was astounding to me that rodents could get that big.  Plus, they're cute   Anyway, my local zoo just got a new capybara named Mozzarella.  And since life can be a bit chaotic, I thought today's prompts could use a zoo theme.  There's also the matter of t
