Points of View - The Ultimate Personification of an Object

    By Cole Matthews

Points of view are so important in stories.  As writers, we have to pretend to be someone else, feel what they feel, and ache with their longings.  As an exercise, let's pretend to be something not alive.  You can fill the object with whatever you feel or think.  The object will become a character, a witness, and your sounding board.     #215 - You are a porch swing.  You must describe the events that unfold around you, but only during times of great emotion.  That's when you awaken.

Straight, Straight, & Super Straight

So I had to break up with my two pretend boyfriends and the 3rd one who was a backup. Fantasy over .     So I got up early to go running with the boys. Met them at the Bagel shop and we started our run. First off, Damien wasn't around and it was mentioned that he must have had problems with his new baby (strike 1).   During the course of the run, I find out that the backup guy has a wife and two teenage girls, and used to be principal of a private catholic school (strike 2).   And th

my Pretend Boyfriends

So I'm still running pretty regularly (about 13 out of 14 days) so that means that I continue to run into my two running crushes at least 3 or 4 times a week. They always have some encouraging words or salutations for me, like 'Heya Vic' or 'Good Morning Vic' or 'Nice job Vic' or 'Looking Good Vic' or 'See you tomorrow Vic'. Perks me up everytime I runinto them.   When you're out there running, just trying to keep up your pace, your mind starts to wander. I've started to build up fantasies

Man-candy...what's in a name?

Two cute boys talked to me today ! For a guy my age, it's memorable when that happens.     Okay, I can't just leave it at that...here are the details.   I think I mentioned in an earlier blogs that I've taken up running in the mornings. I've been running pretty regularly since May. I crawl out of bed, throw on my running shows, and am usually out by about 5:00am. I run about 6.2 miles (10km) on the bike path and take the same route everyday. Apparently, there's a running club that meets d

I have daisy duke swim trunks

It's been really hot here in central california, so jumping into the pool is a daily (if not several times a day) occurance. Getting into and drying my regular board short type swim trunks is getting to be quite a chore. My friends say I should just go swim naked as it's my own pool in the privacy of my back yard, but I'm too much of a prude for that. Also, you can kinda see through the slats of the fence around my yard and I don't want to pull a Corvus and put myself on display for noisy ne

So much for stage two!

Haha, okay so maybe not yet but with last night....   Well I'll start at the beginning. The beginning of yesterday, anyway. Yesterday was a Tuesday, my day off, so I had lots of free time and its also the day I do my best to find myself a date. During the day time I went out and took the Florida Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test. While I was there I decided to go ahead and start the PASS process, which when complete will put me into the candidate pool for law enforcement agencies across al

Evolving Identity

I just got done watching a movie called "Boy Culture" ... I enjoyed it even i don't care for all the hustling... still a few good points were made here and there. I ended up reflecting a bit on myself as I watched it and came across a scene where they're talking about the stages of being gay.   In stage 1, you've just come out to yourself and you have this romantic idea of not being a slut and meeting another guy who is also not a slut and living happily ever after with him. My stage 1 lasted

It feels like I'm dating a straight woman

I have this female friend who's being particularly needy lately (and she's a real life friend, so this isn't some vailed b*tch slap against any of you ). Let's call her Nellie.   This neediness is really starting to suffocate me and I'm debating what to do about it.   Needy Nellie was over the top last week when I went to a Canada Day party at a local bar. I arrived kind of late, so most everyone was already there seated at the two rows of tables (about 50 people overall). I saw some

Another year...gone

and now as I understand it....   41 this year...bleh. You'd think by now I'd be used to the fact that I'm in my 40s.   I'm getting more self conscious about the way I dress. I mean, it's not like I wear A&F or American Eagle or such. But I L. U. V. love Banana Republic

Borderline stalking?

After getting a few items from the pool supply store, I was walking to my car and my gym crush drives by me. I've had a crush on him for the better part of 3 years now.   He has just finished shopping at Trader Joes (10 pts for shopping at Trader Joe's ). It's a little scary that I recognized him so easily as he was wearing his sunglasses, but I do know what his car looks like.   Well, I hurry into my car and I end up a few cars behind him at a stop light. Where I should have been turn

Obsessed

I've been obsessed with fitness lately. I've been a two-a-day'er for the last 3 months as I've been trying to get into better shape. Usually I hit the gym at lunch for an hour workout and I usually did an afternoon/evening activity like rollerblading, biking, or jogging.   Well for the last 10 days, I've been doing 3 a day'ers. At 5am I jog for 3-4 miles, at lunch I workout at the gym, and in the evening I've been biking 16 miles.   I only have 2 lbs to go until my goal, but I'm startin

I feel guilty about my little sister

I have 3 siblings: two who are older than me and then a sister who's 16 years younger than me. This blog is about her.   I remember when she was an infant, changing her diaper, teaching her to ride her bike without training wheels on, her crying when I went away to college, sending her off to college.   Basically, I've seen her grow up to be the 24 year old women she is today.   She's dated a few guys before, all nice guys.   Well, she's dating a new guy. Makes her real happy. What's th

Happy News!

Okay, so two days ago I was breaking down in tears because it seemed like no matter what I did I could never get out of the rathole im currently living in. I got an extra shift permanently added to my schedule and im not a moron - i know how to live on a budget and what I can afford. With the extra shift each week I can afford my own place but it seemed like everywhere I went they wanted 3x rent as minimum monthly income. I was ready to give up... but yesterday I came across an ad in the paper..

Stupid Valentine's Day

If someone were to prophesize to me that 'In five years, you'll be with the love of your live, living happily ever after', I'd be enjoying my life the way it is now.   I'm single, have my dog, have my house, and am secure in my job. My relatives live far enough away that I'm not bogged down by the family drama, yet we can get on the phone at any time to reconnect. I have friends to do stuff with when I need company, but no one to smother me when I want to do my things (rollerblading, biking,
