Menzoberranzen
Love is not Enough Why, love, why? I gave so much, and took so little I looked into those eyes, and I saw love I saw love, and I thought it was enough I was wrong You have no idea what it's like to know that love isn't everything I wanted 'us' to work, but you just wanted 'you' You tried, you really did But sometimes your best just isn't good enough I grew tired of waiting, Of waiting for selflessness Of waiting for a surprise on my pillow Of waiting for your shoulder to cry on at 3 in the morning I grew tired of your lack of perspective When is Valentine's day? Our anniversary? My birthday? You don't know, but you still love me I need more than love to keep me going I need a friend, a partner, a lover I need someone who will be there for me It was a choice between you and me I chose me I still love you But I had to leave You couldn't be who I needed you to be Your face haunts my dreams and I weep for our lost love But Love wasn't a good enough reason to stay Link to comment
Jason Rimbaud
Menzo, I love this. It's almost clinical, a sober voice that describes why you couldn't stay, detached and uncaring, though the voice is filled with emotion. Very cool brother. Jason R. Link to comment

Ieshwar
Damn realistic! So true... and sad. Yeah, love isn't everything but remains a very important part. Reading this reminded me of a movie- 'Break up' with Salma Hayek. Same story line. Another ingredient for good relationship- compatibility. Great poem. You're really at ease with words. Your poetry was actually what prompted me to post some of mine here. I wrote another one that deals with my tendancy to be cold, distant and detached actually. It's something I hear a lot. Anyway, thanks you guys for the great reviews. I decided to just post it all in eFiction as a collection of some of what I've written. Menzo Link to comment
AFriendlyFace
Menzo, I love this! You tried, you really did But sometimes your best just isn't good enough I love this line! I grew tired of waiting, Of waiting for selflessness Of waiting for a surprise on my pillow Of waiting for your shoulder to cry on at 3 in the morning Expecting/hoping for a surprise, what a delightful paradox! And I think knowing that the other person is there at 3am if you need a cry is something very important in a relationship. I grew tired of your lack of perspective When is Valentine's day? Our anniversary? My birthday? You don't know, but you still love me LOL, were you dating a straight guy? It was a choice between you and me I chose me This is most definitely my favourite line in the whole poem! AWESOME! Have a great day and take care, Kevin Link to comment
