I would agree and hope that is the case. The suggestion for Matt is logical, but who knows what twists and turns await us. I would speculate that the only sacrosanct couples at this point are JP/Stef and perhaps Claire so who know who or what is fair game for 2000.....

I'd say JP/Stefan and Claire/Jack are basically the "for life" couples.I guess Ace and Cass are as well, since they are peripheral characters and there isn't much point to mess up their lives for drama. Everything else is up for game unless Brad and Robbie end this story committing for life. Matt/Wade seem the most likely to fall apart- especially if Wade decides he wants to pursue a political career in Washington after graduation in '02 while Matt decides to stay in California.

Or Wade's dad used his connections to get Wade a job interning at the Pentagon during the summer of 2001 and...

Seriously though, I remember thinking that 9/11 can't affect the Cramptons or the Schluters because they're Caliornia-based, but adding in the high-powered Danfields of D.C. really changed that, and it does give Matt a reason to be in DC on 9/11.

True, but to painful to even think about....it is coming, but a very painful time still to contemplate it happening, much less to characters now that we have come to care about like Matt or Wade....

Posted

It seems inevitable that Wade will know people who die in 9/11, because of his D.C. ties and because it's a given that the Danfields mix with the NYC high-powered business crowd as well. If it's not family, it'll be the parents of his friends or something like that. Or it could be friends who graduated from college already and are working at Cantor-Fitzgerald or some other WTC company. Wade and Matt are seniors by then, so they should know friends who have already entered the business world at this point. I'm sure Wade has a lot of prep school friends who followed the trajectory of going to some Ivy League school on the East Coast, and then headed to New York to start their careers.

Alas, inevitability does not ease the pain of consideration/experience....part of the reason I see this being able to be addressed in this sort of Historical fiction is that we can trust that Mark and his skill can take us through re-experiencing this time in a thoughtful, realistic, and I would say reverential story without letting it get maudlin or it being in-authentic. I do not envy his task but I look forward to the result. I suspect it will be potentially cauthartic....Mark, not to much pressure on you with our expectation(s), eh? :worship:

Yet another great chapter Mark. Lots of forward progress in a tightly compacted timeframe, and what a surprise at the end! I never saw that one coming and it does beg the question on whether cousins are considered inappropriate and does the same rule stand for gay and straight couples?? And if not, who has the power to say so???

as the consanguity rules are all about not producing DNA challenged children, gay sex with cousins shouldn't be a problem.... (and before someone pipes up about father/son sexual relationships - that type of relationship is/should be frowned upon due to likely power imbalances......)

Mark :worship: , I envy the lucky bastard that does the autopsy on your brain sometime 50+ years from now - I am sure what they discover will rank among the wonders of the world.....

A mind that can produce a buggered spanish grandee and lovers who discover a mutual relative on a sunken submarine in completely separate stories written days apart is truly sensational; all power to ya! :2thumbs:

RE: Ch 33

"I was named after my uncle. He was my dad's older brother. He was in the Navy and died when my dad was only 20 years old. He went down in a submarine."

:wacko::blink::wacko::blink::lmao::lol::lmao::lol:

So now I need to send my laptop to the repair shop since I spit my coffee onto the screen and the keys are getting sticky...

The Crampton family certainly knows how to keep it in the family!

:D

So, is Kevin going to freak out first or Brad? Will Brad's preacher 'uncle' going to freak out? This story is going to get better!

I was waiting to for that shoe to drop and you handled that really well! I was prepared to talk about why Brad liked that Kevin liked sleeping with him, but that may not even be relevant anymore. I'm really interested in finding out how Kevin is going to react to this, though If I was Brad I'd be freaking out about f**king someone who seemed fashioned to be his dad's stand in. It'd almost be like he's been doing his bio-dad... O.o

So how did Kevin's dad end up in Calgary if Kevin Sr. was in the US Navy? I always wondered why Brad never tried to learn more about his biological family, despite his satisfaction with his adopted one.

Can't wait for the other shoe to drop, that was a chapter packed with lots of different elements to the plot.

Brad and Kevin will still be f**king like rabbits. That's my prediction. It's not like they can get each other pregnant. :music:

My undergrad college had a lot of people who were from the New York/New Jersey area. I knew a pretty good amount of people that were personally affected by 9/11 and had to attend funerals, especially kids from the affluent North New Jersey area.

Come to think of it, Robbie and Ace might know people who died in 9/11 because of their Princeton connection, which lost 13 alumni.

Brad and Kevin will still be f**king like rabbits. That's my prediction. It's not like they can get each other pregnant. :music:

I think you're right. And aside from that, it's not like they actually grew up as cousins or thinking of each other as family.

Kinda funny how those issues work itself out. I can't see Will ending up with his very own Hayes boy like basically every protagonist who is not actually a Hayes, because Robbie was for all intents and purposes his dad and Matt is his brother. Getting with a Hayes would be kinda gross to him, even though there isn't really a blood connection. In the case of Brad and Kevin, there is one, but Brad doesn't really think of the dude as family, so it's not really iffy to him.

Not quite. Although, he has been known to write ten chapters in four hours. Or at least it seems like it.

What a shrink's dream this family is :D

Brian didn't get enough love from his mom...

Matt's birth mom is a hater...

Robbie's mom is a hater and religious nut...Robbie is STILL seeing the same shrink...

Brad's Bio-Uncle is a hater and religious nut who has both a gay son and nephew...

Nick has his own issues he's dealing with...

Ace has/had his own issues...

I would LOVE to be "David" to all these people! I could retire and write several papers on just this one family/extended family!

I doubt even that would bother him much. As I pointed out before, he's slept with his own foster brother and is partnered to a man that strongly resembles his other foster brother.

What will bother him is that he will never be able to look at Kevin and not be reminded of his past, a past he vehemently hates and would like nothing more than to never think about again. Someone asked why Brad was not more curious about the Carmichaels; the reason is he hates being one of them. That particular origin caused him such pain growing up that is probably akin to people born from rapes, right down to his mother hating his existence. I don't think he is troubled by this anymore on a day-today basis, mostly due to Tonto and JP, but I can't imagine he'd enjoy it being thrown in his face like that.

Though is he suddenly does start treating Kevin like a long-lost cousin, which he is of course, I wonder if he'll declare the boy off-limits to Robbie and others, and if he consults with Kevin himself before making such a declaration.

I think ever since Brad bought Kevin the Boxer. Brad must have known maybe deep down inside but he knew. Down the road Brad and Kevin must confront Kevin's dad. What will happen then? Will the Reverend change his tune? Losing his only son is at stake. Will this bring Robbie and Brad closer? Will we find out who is behind Dan Church? And is all this part of the same evil plan?

Mark another great chapter. You only get better and better!!

Brad and Ace never slept together, though. They messed around when they were around 12 and I think Brad gave Ace blowjobs, but they didn't get into actual screwing around.

I just think it's interesting how the wacky relations of these people make some off-limits but others not.

Yeah.

I remember thinking Kevin calling himself "Sergio" was absolutely ridiculous, but now it actually makes sense. He doesn't feel worthy of the Kevin Carmicheal name, I suppose.

With my luck, they'll probably find it resembles Charles Manson's, even though I haven't killed anyone. Yet.

I believe my initial reaction was quite mistaken for when 'Kevin bein' kin' came up/out, I thought, golly gosh, a new emotional turmoil. As I think about it, Mark has cleverly brought forth not a new issue but another loose thread that needed to be repaired by allowing Brad to address the long-simmering issues that must have some bearing/impact on all his relationships. I would imagine that one of the emotions he has been dealing with as an underlying theme of 'not quite feeling as good as the rest' for afterall, his blood relations are a bit thin. (oy and to be related to the not-so-good Rev). While Brad is an integral part of the family (and probably the next 'Don' of the family once Don JP retires to his garden to grow tomatoes and chase his grandchildren), there has to be some level of pain and separation Brad feels by the emotional devastion wrought by his mother, siblings, and the events unfolding around his parentage. It seems that perhaps Brad has allowed this to scab over instead of lancing the wound. The emotional challenges of the last month seems to have prepared him to go deeper into this painful issue. This might be one of the personality drivers for Brad to be both so focused to succeed as well as to be as controlling as he has, on rare occasion, been in intimate relationships...

How can Brad fully resolve his relationships with Robbie, Jeanine, even the parent/child relationships he has with his brood without coming to more concrete terms with the father he was denied knowing, but who in many ways has been a shadow over his life. I admire all that Brad has achieved through these stories and don't see him as a deeply flawed 'Hamlet', but the issues would be real and I believe now that he is as vulnerable and open to addressing internal issues, he will be better able to address this part of his emotional (or is it emotionless?) past. Also, with the family now focusing on Ohio and with Brad needing to work closely with his sibling, now might be a good time to purge himself of any feelings of inadequacy over his parentage or concern he might have over his past that would stand in the way of Brad more fully healing and working on this new project. What I do hope is that he doesn't go all prudish (unlikely) and stop the hot sex scenes with his new cousin. Wonder if he could trade a roll with Matt for allowing Robbie to keep Kevin as a bedroom partner???

Well another really good chapter, it moved the story forward in several really positive ways. I am suprised that anyone was suprised about the Kevin revelation. I really thought most people had that figured out long ago. I don't have an issue with Brad and Kevin sleeping together, while I was adamately opposed to the idea of Brad and Matt having sex. For me, the difference between brothers , cousins, or your or your partners kids is huge....

I really like how Robbie is starting to deal with this situation. I still want them to end up together but feel that Robbie has to get his own shit together before he and Brad can work getting back in a committed relationship.

Keep up the good work....

They're all gun shy, because they know that just because it seems obvious, doesn't necessarily mean it is so.Posted ImagePosted Image

Well, if it was obvious, Brad would not have had sex with Kevin again...and again... And again... :D

He might have. I mean, they're only cousins.Posted Image

I'm pissed at Kevin for making the comments he did to Brad about Robbie being a selfish lover. Where does he get off saying something like that. He barely knows either of them.

Not to mention that his view is extremely biased. Kevin likes big cocks. Kevin likes the Boxer sitting in JP's driveway. Duh!

I mean he knows something of what Robbie and Brad are going through. It was just so self-serving, I wanted to vomit.
