methodwriter85 Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Chapter 20 -When they try to deal with the fact that Carl is in no way down for the count. -When Wade lists the schools he wants to go to. I think I like the Georgetown Fight Song the best. It's got that Southern boy swagger to it. -When Carl gets voted off the team. "If I were ever to pass you along in life again, and you were laying there, dying of thirst, I would not give you a drink of water. I would let the vultures take ya, and do whatever they what with ya. With no ill regrets. I plead to the jury tonight to think a little bit about the island that we have been on. This island is pretty much full of only two things. Snakes and rats. And in the end of mother nature, we have Richard the snake -- who knowingly went after prey -- and Kelly, who turned into the rat that ran around like the rats do on this island, trying to run from the snake. I feel we owe it to the island's spirits that we have learned to come to know to let it be in the end the way mother nature intended to be. For the snake to eat the rat." centexhairysub Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I just have to say that you scored it just perfectly with the Survivor Theme Song, I remember that passage from the first season...

methodwriter85 Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 Chapter 23 -When Will learns about Pat's legal troubles.
MJ85 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Seeing as how Brad seems so set in having things done his way lately, I wonder if Limp Bizkit's "My Way" would make for fitting music...
methodwriter85 Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) Yeah, it probably would, but after a record three stories set in a single year, I'm really exhausted from circa 1999-2000 music. I'm half-hearted at this point. Is it going to be 2001 soon, Mark? *whines* Edited March 26, 2012 by methodwriter85
MJ85 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I think I'll second the complaint about going too slow, if only because it seems like we won't even hit Election Day *shudder* until something like chapter 50 at this going rate.
Mark Arbour Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I think I'll second the complaint about going too slow, if only because it seems like we won't even hit Election Day *shudder* until something like chapter 50 at this going rate. Why does that matter?
methodwriter85 Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) Why does that matter? Because the 2000 election was a pretty important event that shaped how the decade went, and gave rise to an administration that you know damn well JP and Brad are going to hate with every fiber of their being? I mean, I get that the events have been pushed back to just background for the story, but in my case- the 2000 election happened when I was in 8th grade, and beginning to really understand how politics affected us. By 2004, I was completely disgusted by the Bush administration and completely disheartened that he got re-elected. I'm just eager for us to get around to it, but with multiple chapters covering the same day, it just seems like that's not that likely we'll get there. I mean, you've always kept a slow pace that then picked up at the end, but it kinda seems like the slow pace has been REALLY slowed down. Especially because there wasn't any kind of significant time jump between the end of Poor Man's Son and the beginning of Paternity. I mean, I know this isn't true for everyone, but what I really love about the CAP series is exploring a different year in a different time period and exploring all the things that happened. You used to set stories at different time periods- first was the early 1960's, then the late 1960's, the early 1970's, the early 1980's, the early 1990's. And then we hit Bloodlines, and with the exception of the flashbacks in the Box, we've been stuck in the Y2K period for a very, very long time. We're covering far more of a year than we've ever done before, and frankly, I'm getting sick of 2000. Especially because it's the year before '01, which was a pretty big year indeed. I'm also just partial to the 2003-2007 era for personal reasons. The other problem I have with the slowed down timeline is that the characters don't get time to develop off-book and surprise us with how they've changed from the last time we saw them. It was cool seeing Brad as a little boy, and then catching up with him again as a 17-year old. We don't get that anymore. We've been, for the most part, continously following the Cramptons/Schluters/Hayes since 1998....the only periods we've missed would be May to June 1999, early fall 1999, and May-June 2000. We don't check in with Will as a 13-year old, fade out, and then check in on him again a couple of years later- there's just always this continual focus on these characters, which makes it harder for us to be surprised at how they change. For example, Will in January 2000 was so upset that Brad didn't ask him to be best man at his wedding. Then we get to July 2000, and suddenly they're at constant war with one another. It felt jarring- had there been at least a year lag there, I could see how tensions might have developed off-book, but the lack of time jumps doesn't allow for that anymore. I mean, I understand that this is your story, but eh. This has been bothering me, and I've not been entirely sure why, but I think I might have explained it better. I really miss getting to explore a different year with each story. But I'm assuming that the reason why we've lingered so much in 2000 is that you're setting up issues and relationships that will propel us through the rest of the 2000's, and once we get past 9/11 and the baton is fully handed off to the JJ/Will/John cohort the pace is going to start picking up and you're not going to have multiple stories set in the same year anymore. MJ85 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 The question was probably intended for me to answer, but I don't think I could give an answer that's any better than the one Jeremy just gave here. I haven't quite gotten into the series nearly as much, but much of what he's said, I do agree with. Having said that, I think I've started something here that's taken this thread perhaps a little too off course. My apologies for that.

centexhairysub Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 So love both of these songs, although "My Hero" by the Foo Fighters is a much better song than "Red"... They both fit those moments perfectly...
methodwriter85 Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 "Red" was a Mark pick...I wasn't really all that familiar with it.
Mark Arbour Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Jeremy's been bitching and moaning about the challenge of finding music, what with only a couple of thousand years worth of choices, only nothing beyond 2000. So I carried some water for him on the Sammy Hagar song.
methodwriter85 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Chapter 27 -When Wade decides to use his money and real estate holdings to help Tim set up homeless shelters around the country. "Baby You're A Rich Man" by the Beatles -When JJ does his performance. "One" from A Chorus Line(instrumental)
centexhairysub Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 OMG, I so love the Beatles and all the music from about 1958 to 1973 or so... That was the best fifteen years in music ever with the possible exception of Madonna.... LOL...

centexhairysub Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 OMG, that is just the perfect song for that moment...

methodwriter85 Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 Chapter 31 -When Will goes on his teenaged rampage. I'm going to be honest, I NEVER thought Last Resort would ever apply to a spoiled rotten Golden Boy like Will. Color me shocked, Mark. -When Will sits on his veranda, and ponders what he did. Linkin Park moment. Finally.
MJ85 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 (edited) Chapter 31 -When Will goes on his teenaged rampage. I'm going to be honest, I NEVER thought Last Resort would ever apply to a spoiled rotten Golden Boy like Will. Color me shocked, Mark. I don't think Last Resort would apply - the song's about taking your own life cause life has become so messed up, and that's not Will at all. With lyrics like "suffocation...no breathing, don't give a...if I die bleeding", they're not exactly ambiguous about it, either. Edited April 24, 2012 by MJ85
