I think for my entire life, I've associated big and brassy with space.  I have to say that John Williams played a LOT into this.

This is from the original Superman movie from 1978.  Right near the beginning of the movie.

That the sound associated with such a significant portion of the scifi film world has come from one person is quite astonishing.

And that so much of the music is iconic.  I can pick up quite a few of those movies themes in just a handful of notes.  That's powerful stuff.

I still have my collection of soundtrack CDs, that we played during DnD sessions, and almost all of these are in it. Nowadays we just use YouTube but still queue in John Williams into the mix.
