Because we think about negative things more, process them more, ruminate. While pleasant things we enjoy but do not over-think. We have more words for negative things as well, than we do for positive experiences. 1 4

I was once a "not in my backyard" person, even though I myself lived on the streets for a time. After some soul searching, I changed my mind. Criminalizing someone for being homeless is dehumanizing them, and if someone needs a place to rest their head, I won't be the person who says "not in my backyard." Not until the root causes of why they're homeless is addressed and positive actions put into play. The opposition to the ordinance was funded by big corps and city-funded businesses who don't want the ugliness of homelessness to tarnish our beautiful streets. At one point, police were confiscating blankets and sleeping bags right off of people, ordered by the mayor. I'll shut up now before I get reprimanded by admin. The Avs lost. I'm going to bed. Love you all. First, sorry your team lost … I know that feeling all too well. Second, people and by that I mean people with 'normal' lives, jobs and homes and food in their bellies and a roof over their heads need to realize that homeless people are not evil, or scum, or lazy. Many of them are mentally ill and have no where to go. Just imagine that for a moment .. knowing you have no place to live, you don't know when you will next eat or drink. Why do you think anyone would choose that? We need to stop being afraid of them and worrying about our property values. They are who we should value .. life is what we should value. Not house prices over human lives. Cities big and small need to put all people first, not just the rich, but each and every one of us. Stop assuming and start doing. 8

Almost like our culture was designed to produce unhappy people... Yes, but it isn't so simple … as well as being psychological it is also physiological … it is in part how our brains function. We naturally think about the negative more … perhaps in an effort to understand and stop the negative in the future. 6

Love you all. No cause for reprimanding imo. As for blankets and such being confiscated? I read a news article about that (can’t remember where) happening in other cities. Seems quite cruel taking away a person’s only source of warmth if you ask me. 5
