Day's going well so far, thanks for asking. A far bit sunnier than it was earlier. But, before the sun decided to put its hat on and come out to play, I had another go at the root of that bush that I said yesterday (I think) was proving difficult to remove. Eventually, with one serious sounding "snap!" of what must have been the main root, it yielded to my superior strength 💪 and persistence, and is now lying upside down in the sun to dry out. It will join the others on another wee bonfire eventually. I might wait till Saint John's Eve (23rd June) for my next bonfire, as that is traditionally bonfire night here in Ireland. 6 1

Not forecast to get much warmer but t-storms are likely. We're stuck in this tropical airmass until late Sat when a cold front is due to push through. Slightly cooler temps and decidely less humid air to follow. About the same here. Hot and muggy... was supposed to be cooler, but now it will feel like 30+° Morning, dugh and Mum. 3 1 2

So let me focus on something positive: Denmark hasn't yet seen any increase in Covid-19 cases in spite of opening up more and more. They're not quite sure why, but suspect people being mostly outdoors when in groups or exercising may be a factor. Also, there has been a study of the 524 deaths out of almost 10,000 cases of infection in Denmark. In all but 24 cases, the patients who died had other known serious health problems (the last 24 may also have had health issues, but not enough to require treatment, so no data). Most of them were also older than 60. So if you're old but healthy (no heart, lung, or kidney problems, and no diabetes), you still have a good chance of surviving infection. That covers my mum and most of the other old relatives I have. Morning, Tim. 4 1

Not sure exactly how Ireland's statistics compare to Demark's (and this isn't a competition, anyway) but the Central Statistics Office here issued a report last week which included the following: The CSO’s analysis of the confirmed deaths has found that COVID-19 has had the greatest impact on people aged 65 or over. Almost 92% of confirmed deaths occurred within this age group in the period from 11 March 2020 up to 15 May 2020. The data also shows that in the 0-44 age cohort there were 17 deaths. This older age group also accounted for more than 26% of all confirmed cases of the virus. Further analysis found that 14% of all confirmed cases are people aged 80+, despite only making up 3% of the population. In almost 88% of deaths there was an underlying condition, the median age of these deaths was 83, the same as that for all deaths. This compares to the median age of 48 for all those with a confirmed case of the virus. https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/br/b-cdc/covid-19deathsandcases/ Seems to confirm your "if you're old but healthy [...] you still have a good chance of surviving infection" comment. 4 1 1

But on the other hand being overly concerned without good reason is detrimental to one's mental health. And I want focus to be on the elderly, who are in real danger. We have had those sad cases where Covid-19 got into care homes, and at the beginning there was not enough focus on PPE for the carers. This went even more wrong in Sweden, sad to say. Instead of worrying about young healthy people and children, we need to worry about those who are vulnerable. Like you are, Albert, right ? 8

In one home alone, there were over 25 deaths. I won't get into how it got so bad there, but at least our numbers are going in the right direction now. My mom takes care of an elderly couple and is being extremely cautious about what she does and where she goes. My aunt does her shopping for her, and we haven't socialized since March. 6 2
