Popular Post dughlas Posted July 31 Popular Post Posted July 31 So instead of my cooking dinner last evening mum decided we should go out. As a result we are having last evenings meal tonight. Truth be told I am more worn out today than yesterday. It was raining this morning when I woke so I thought "Oh good, no work in the yard today." Well, instead we went out for brekkie, stopped by the office of her telephone/internet/cable co-op and then went grocery shopping. After all that I went outside to check something and decided since there was a light overcast I might do a bit of weeding. I was out there 2 hrs and after the first 30 minutes the sky cleared and there was bright sunshine. I perspired a bit, to the point I was a dirty, drippy, sweaty mess. However, I did accomplish a lot. The lawns here are mostly made up of an insidious weed called centipede grass. The name comes from it's habit of spreading by throwing long runners that have leaves sticking off the sides resembling the legs on a centipede. The damn stuff is invasive and once it gets into a flower bed the only recourse is to dig it out because by nature it is very hardy stuff. I am fighting it in a couple of places. Sadly, it's in among mum's azalea bushes where I can't dig it up without damage to their roots. There I pull it as best I can. Another spot was among some pencil hollies. That's where I was working today. Two if the hollies are dying so I've removed one and was able to dig most of the weed from around it. The other will have to wait until I get back here the winter. I will eventually win but it can be discouraging as I cleared most of that area before we went to PA in April. Ah well, could be worse, it's not poison ivy and there weren't any snakes, we have copperheads here, hiding amongst the shrubs this time. 2 3 1

I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight, but it's a warm and sticky 27c in my apartment and it's after two in the morning here. 1 1 1 3

He (Felix) is playing mixed doubles right now. 2 4
