Headstall Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 43 minutes ago, Marty said: Thanks, Timothy. Saved me from having to look up the figures about the carbon footprints of artificial christmas trees. And I suspect that figure of ten years probably doesn't take into account the fact that many of those trees are made in distant parts of the world, and have to be transported long distances to where they are being sold. Another suspicion of mine is that many people do not realise that a proper rotation of crops like trees is actually carbon neutral... The biggest issue with trees is forest, especially rainforest, devastation. Huge tracts of it are cleared daily, and a lot of unknown plants--flora and fauna-- are lost forever. The real shame is these lands aren't arable. It takes only a year for erosion and such to strip the nutrients, and they must have heavy duty fertilization. It also affects the climate, survival of animals, the ozone layer... attempts at reasonable approaches have been failing for decades. Places like Brazil are an example of how it can ruin a country... tourism and conservation makes a lot more money than farms destined to struggle and fail. 2 2 1

PLEASE tell ms that isnt the one just had a baby! 1 hour ago, Headstall said: I bought her from a family whose kids(two of the four) developed allergies to dogs. They had four kids six and under, and it was affecting how they handled staying awake and alert at school while taking allergy meds, so they had no choice. She was eight months at the time... and yeah, I was looking to rescue a dog, which was how I saw the ad for her. She understands 'Stay' very well... she's smarter than my son's girlfriend. They grew great and looked really nice, just not $95 worth...😶😒😌 My uncle grew Christmas trees for resale. The tree growers association that governed such things posted a maximum price he could ask for cut and baled trees, and trees are an average of 7 to 8 years old before harvest. We planted two trees in late February for every tree harvested, and any trees that were culled my aunt makes wreathes and grave covers. More than makes up for the "waste" of killing a tree. Plus our town collects, chips and compost the trees after the holiday. 2 4 1

The tree I bought my ex for our first Christmas after we married in 1980 was a balled white pine tree about 3'5 feet tall. It was her very first Christmas tree. Her family never had one. Interestingly the next year her younger sister bought one and there has been one ever since. In the spring we planted it at her parents home. It is still growing and nearly 30 foot tall. 4 2
