Does anyone have a friendly poltergeist haunting their house?

I'm pretty sure my family has one at ours. A little list of things the poltergeist has done:

• Moved my son's shoes from the mud room to the front door, while tracking dirt on the freshly mopped kitchen floor
• Emptied the contents of several packages in the "snacks cupboard", and left said packages sitting on the shelves
• Left a large pile of used tissues spilling over the top of the waste bin in my son's room
• Moved my son's ballet outfit from the laundry hamper, to be trailed through the hallway enroute to the bathroom

 

I know that my son would never engage in any of these behaviors. So, the only explanation I can think of, is that it must be the work of a friendly---but increasingly irksome---poltergeist.

Anyone else having poltergeist problems at their house?

Mine has opened the garage door when I was sure I closed it, and have left the lights on upstairs when I went to bed.  

I'm pretty sure of it.

Yeah, apparently the poltergeist has some allergies this Fall season.

Ours do things like freeze the meat I buy for a specific dish I am fixing the next day or turning off the dishwasher half way thru the cycle so they can shower I guess.

 

Edit to add they never restart the machine! Half washed dishes when I go back !

I keep hearing some disembodied sniffles, and the poltergeist has a habit of leaving tissues in random places around the house. The contents appear more booger-ish in nature.

Not sure if mine is a poltergeist or a group of heinselmenchen (German house elves), but I will regularly put something down on my desk or side table, go back for them not 10 minutes later and it won't be there, only to find it 3 weeks later half way across the house.

 

Most common thing stolen I'd my earbuds or book. I've even had the notebook I was actively writing in get stolen!

Both sides of the tissue were used. It's not the end of the world, and when you work in a restaurant, you see people leave worse things on their plates.

The poltergeist struck again. I left work, picked up my son from school, and came home. I then decided to do a bit of cleaning before dinner. When I lifted the skirting on the sofa in the living room to dust underneath it, that's how I discovered the poltergeist had absconded with a dinner plate. Whether the plate was from today's breakfast, yesterday's dinner, or possibly even older, I couldn't begin to guess. There wasn't any nastiness on the surface, thank goodness.

The strange bit is, we generally eat at the table in this household, rather than sitting in front of the TV, so I'm truly stumped as to how that plate found its way under the sofa.

I've never sensed anything odd in a house. But I did come across a cursed tree at a cemetery and a black fox that my friend swore she didn't see. Some friends with indigenous roots I talked to about it told me the fox was trying to lead me away from the twisted tree. In hindsight, it sounds like that's exactly what it was doing.

It was around November because I remember looking forward to thanksgiving. My friend invited me to a dinner with her grandparents at a local Cracker Barrel. We finished eating early and the elderly were talking endlessly, so my friend and I were allowed to walk around. We bought some sugar sticks at the connecting shop and headed outside. The metal fence was broken near the bottom and curled up. The two of us were tiny teens, so we snuck right through it to the park on the other side.

Only it wasn't a park, but a cemetery. We walked around taking note of different names and tombstones, stopping at any grave that appeared like no one had visited for a while and leaving behind a pixie stick as a gift to the more "abandoned" ones. We walked past a mausoleum and the further we wandered into the cemetery; we came across the tree. The limbs were twisted and so low to the ground at first, I thought it had been struck by lightning, but there were no scorch marks. You could see where the limbs bent down at the base, none of them damaged. 

I walked within some seven feet of it and felt the odd throbbing that emanated from the whole thing. To me, it was as if the tree not only had a heartbeat, but a "stay the f*ck away" kind of aura. I remember feeling legit fear when my friend rushed over to climb it. It felt like so much as touching it was beyond disrespectful, but dangerous. I remember telling her I didn't want to go anywhere near that tree.

Then, I saw the black fox emerging from the edge of the woods and it stared right at us with golden/amber eyes before moving further away and stopping to look back at us again. It was such a beautiful creature. I took a few steps towards it and pointed it out to my friend (it's not like you can miss a black fox trotting on top of green grass no matter how bad your eyesight is). She claimed she didn't see it, so I continued to follow the fox and motioned towards it again. My friend still said she saw nothing.

I asked her years later and she still swears she didn't see any animals at the cemetery that day. She didn't think there was anything wrong with the tree. But I'm glad that whatever distraction the fox brought on, it had kept her from climbing it that day.

Well! It seems the poltergeist has decided to be helpful, for once! 😁

After dinner tonight, I found some clothes tumbling in the washer, which I usually do on Tuesdays. I also found the dishes from tonight's dinner had been returned to the cupboard after drying.
