Love is Compelling, Choices are Complicated
drsawzall commented on E K Stokes's story chapter in Love is Compelling, Choices are Complicated
No shite Sherlock.... He paused, taking a breath. "But what Laren does... it's like a drug. It's the most intense thing I've ever felt. It’s a part of why I left home—to finally go all the way, to be completely owned, completely dominated It is a drug, the drugs you are either willingly ingesting or the drugs you don't know you are ingesting... Sadly, it is a function of my age and years of experience, but the path Tomas is choosing is built on a house of cards. At the end of the day, he will finally be able to look into a mirror and see that he wasn't any different than the grasshopper. Years will have been traded chasing that high of being completely dominated, abused while in a drug-induced stupor...and for what/?? To realize that the best and better part of your youth has been wasted, and for the rest of your life, you're nothing more than a has-been, washed up, what made you beautiful has long gone...and your best chances of survival are turning tricks late at night on a darkened street corner... Will he grow up? Can he grow up? That's the $64,000 question... -

I'm left wondering, and it is far-fetched, if the evidence Manny Pain used that would be inadmissible in court, is now being used to glean more evidence... But then, what do we know about the receptionist???

Finally, an unrehersed truthful moment from Killian... "Same here. What about this Saturday?" "Saturday works. Are you good driving in the city?" I laughed. "Not even a little. I live in Ocean City, grew up on the Shore. I've never even driven over the Bay Bridge by myself." m

I'm reminded of the fable of the ant and the grasshopper, which in itself is open to counterinterpretations. Still, for purposes of this discussion, I'll use what is commonly known about thrift, industry, and idleness... Notwithstanding Rokus' age and level of maturity, one of the questions he should be asking himself is, where will he be in two or three decades, to open his eyes and ask if a life of dissipation will get him there.... I see his struggle in choosing between what is solid and what is fleeting....will he make the wise choice? He was standing at a crossroads. Did he want the simple, comforting stability of a monogamous relationship—to find the nice boy his father wanted for him, someone like the honest and gentle Elias, or even the sweet, domestic side of Tomas? Or, did he crave the thrill, the intensity, and the powerful adventure offered by men like Solan and Laren, embracing a life where relationships were fluid and the boundaries were constantly being tested? The weight of the choice settled on his shoulders. The Ant and the Grasshopper - Wikipedia

Pumpkin and Tea - Tom & Kevin
drsawzall commented on Celian's story chapter in Pumpkin and Tea - Tom & Kevin
So true... Kevin still looked skeptical. “You don’t find it ugly…?” “Then why you picked it?” Tom had a rough idea why Kevin had chosen this exact pumpkin and he didn’t actually expect an answer, but he’d learned in the past nearly three months the man lived with him now, that he needed once in a while a mental push to start thinking. “It reminds me of myself…” Kevin mumbled after a moment, seemingly ashamed. “Bright and beautiful?” Tom asked, forcing a cheerful tone to lighten the depressed mood. “I’m not beautiful.” “That’s what they told you.” Tom nudged him with his shoulder. “But you are beautiful.” -
Two things...what did the old man mean by next time??? And the buffet...with libations....😁 “I’ll make a note of that,” the old man said. “That is if you’re here next time. What are your plans today?” “I think I’ll take a walk down the beach.” “A word of caution, the luncheon buffet is set out promptly at noon. Miss it and you’ll have to wait until supper.” “I’m dead. Why do I need to eat?” “You are dead, but that isn’t any reason not to enjoy a good meal. Plus, we have the very finest wines and stronger libations for our nightly soirées. I’ll advise those responsible you’re an Islay connoisseur, though you can’t expect Laphroaig every night. Low inventories are something we try not to incur. You’ll be able to meet with others coexisting on this little plane of the Hereafter.”

To me, his behavior is patiently self-destructive. I've known folks like this, and years later, the results speak for themselves. While it sounds like I am judging, it is simply an observation.
