They are far from being safe, quite the contrary as Brohn is known to the Lord's men and there has to be some record of where he came from when he joined up. That the soldiers were in the vicinity of his father's farm, a wise man should be able to put 2 and 2 together and scope out the farm... While the inside of the farmhouse showed it has been unoccupied, the farm itself, as mentioned does not show years of neglect, this could be worrisome, but then again possibly helpful?

So glad to see the "paperwork" will be ready soon...Manny was quite the Mensch, an admirable benefactor to those who needed the help he could provide, and that they carry on his legacy speaks volumes towards his character... I've often thought and have contended in prior comments, that Owain and Mhairi's father may have sought exculpation for the sins of the "warmonger' father by giving/tithing to that so-called church...time will tell as more becomes known...Somewhere there has to be an accounting of the funds as they sat as investments and so noted by the executors over time. Legal fees for this would require such an action....

With this chapter we see the cultural differences that are coming into play regarding duties and expectations. Given Joseph's age and circumstances, we can see how this colors expectations. Fortunately Joseph is of an age where learning new things will become second nature... There are bound to be a few, humorous bumps on the road to a fuller understanding!!!

It seems that (as @Summerabbacat pointed out, that Joe's father Nathan is in running for hypocritical, two-faced jerk of the year... Thankfully Joe is more in tune with his father's ways. I have to ask, just where does Nathan get off pushing doctrine at Joe, considering his know proclivities towards under-age girls??? Quite frankly, I am surprised that legal action has not been instigated, more to the point...should there not have been some sort of reckoning with the Church of the Brethren about his wayward ways...facing expulsion for not keeping the offending member in his pants behind the zipper...I mean, someone has to know outside the family, why Nathan is about to become single!!! This leads me to wonder just how 'pure' the new pastor is??? Joe's interest in his family history is encouraging, like everyone else here, I am waiting to see more about this and a better accounting of where the family funds disappeared to... Good to see Mhairi enjoying herself...she deserves a bit downtime...

I am still interested in knowing more about the person who had the Lord's son killed...sounds to me like there may be power politics behind killing the young man, does the Lord have other children or is he childless??

These comments are in of themselves a fantastic addition to the story and some serve to remind me of 'incidents' I encountered in my 30 plus years as a facilities manager... We had hired a "Can't miss Director of IT" and the man was a human resources disaster on many levels. We had to furnish his office with plants of his liking and placement was critical. Needless to say, some were difficult for the plant service team to get to, and they asked to do his office when he wasn't in, problem he was in his office all day. Having knocked on the door, he gave permission to have them serviced and watered...he detested dying leaves. Forcing the plant lady to work behind him, he bumped into her causing some minor spillage of water. He blew his stack and called her a "Fat fu&king cow" and a few other choice epithets, all witnessed by other office staff as I was to later find out. A bit later she came to my office accompanied by the owner of her company, and it took considerable patience to remain calm, as I was very upset she had been treated like this and off to Human Resources we went, then to ownership along with supporting, corroborating statements. At first ownership told us that his behavior was the first he had heard of it till HR placed his file on his desk...I took great pleasure a few days later to personally drop moving boxes on his desk, smiling as I turned around and walked out, telling him my assistant would stay and escort him to the door... Treat those who perform the jobs that make your life easier as valued employees...

This was a fantastic interlude chapter...some thoughts I get the feeling Captain Durham might not return to his ship...Will Lord Saint Vincent have anything to do with it...and I wouldn't put it past Winkler to arrange an accident...just kidding... Like others, I suspect something is going to happen in the near future, will it involve the King, St Vincent, the French in any combination thereof??? What happens when Calvert is healed, marriage and another command, or life ashore.... George has spared no effort in demonstrating his love for Francis, the wardrobe, hair, and meeting the children...speaking of which...young William is a chip off the old block to say the least...let's see if Charlotte will have/possess the financial acumen of her mother...

It is becoming very clear that whoever the killer is, has access...not only access to the victims, but knowledge as to where they are and will be... They had all failed to notice the dark figure that had entered the ER immediately after they all did. Despite the hot and humid night, he was wearing a jacket with a hood. The hood was doing a good job of concealing his face. He ducked behind the curtain and was gone from the hospital long before the jailhouse guard returned. The guard positioned himself outside the curtain and kept a look out until two orderlies came to take Ian to a room.

The following brings up a point, and it makes me wonder if RM Wanker acts the way he does as it is an inherited toff gene... As @Summerabbacat noted: I have to wonder why he has not acquired himself a wife for political purposes, particularly given the homophobic beliefs of the party he is aligned to. It is clear the Turners know so much more, having occupied the house from the time before it was purchased by the wankers father...wonder if he enjoyed the car giving him a good wanking...Or will he get more than who's sending it, along with a vicarious thrill by touching the specter??
