Chapter 6 - That Dark Good Night
drsawzall commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 6 - That Dark Good Night
Like everyone else I am on tenterhooks as we wait for the next chapter, appreciative that your muse isn't making us wait a week... Is it tomorrow yet??- 34 comments

I think we have the makings of a very interesting story with all sorts of undercover protection for the family. It will be very interesting to see what kinds of trouble we will find the boys in... One other thing, one of the best parts of these stories is learning about other places, so thank you Quoka... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flinders_Island

After the Past - a vignette
drsawzall commented on Mikiesboy's story chapter in After the Past - a vignette
Loved this, after all...like all babies are cute and brides are beautiful on their wedding day, all puppies are adorable...loved the following!! In the near distance they could hear dogs baying. Dave glanced up from unpacking their food. “What do you think the hellions have found?” Terry grinned as he reached for a sandwich. “Rabbits, probably.” “You had to bring back hounds.” Dave chewed his sliced tomato and cheese sandwich. “They were puppies. Cute, round. Who knew they would grow up to be labra-hounds!” “Houndradors.” -
Then again...I wonder if Blake has a manageable, chronic medical condition such as asthma and overdid it, having a spell, while out in public...

A good a reason as any I suppose and then there's Sam's sister, a crack shot to boot!!! Davis shook his head. “Mister, I don’t need to be here, but this seemed a good place to draw a line in the sand—so to speak. I liked Jae. He said you and your family were good people, and these men need stopping. I have people to protect myself. We’re looking for a place to settle.” “You’re not settling here!” Barry’s hands gripped his rifle tighter and the muzzle came up a few degrees, his finger rested on the trigger guard. Davis held up his hands. “No … no. Around here maybe. There’s lots of room. I want to stop these men so we can settle and start to live. Damn, I am tired of running from these asses and ones like them. We have families, mister. Women and kids. But the men here feel the same way. We want to stop nomading, settle down, raise our kids, and grow food, just like you and your family do.” Sam Davis sighed, and with his next breath, seemed to decide to trust Barry. “We thought if we came and helped protect your place, and at the same stop this gang, then maybe you’d help us.”
-
Thank goodness... “Jae! What direction is the gang going?” Barry interrupted. “Straight north. They’ll come through both places, if we don’t stop them.” “And this Samuel Davis, what’s his plan?” “Well, Barry, I expect that he and about seventy-five men with weapons will be here tomorrow morning.” Barry’s eyes widened and he glanced at me, and then back at Jae. “Here?” “Yeah, they want to stop these guys and they’re coming to help us.”

Chapter 1 - The Lug Head
drsawzall commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 1 - The Lug Head
This part truly stuck out to me as well and a very astute observation, will there be a Gavin of sorts, in this story? And again, sounding like a broken record, this was a great start and a step or three above the typical genre that we see here on GA... -
Chapter 5 - That First Day
drsawzall commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 5 - That First Day
In some ways this chapter was a gut punch of sober reality, two snippets truly stood out for me... I would of course be spending my nights at home with family during the school week, but my parents understood and agreed to let me have the weekends but did make a point that we would do stuff as a family but with Jacob included as well. Dee and my parents went above and beyond what anyone would expect for me and Jacob in that regard. No awkward conversations, no hesitation, just full and immediate acceptance and support, it’s what we needed to thrive. It seems for the most part that we live in a wider world that fails to understand the harm done to children when we fail them... “Nobody deserves to be beat Jake. I was mad at what you did to me, but I was more mad at myself because I felt I caused what happened. I know you’re mad at yourself over what you did, you don’t deserve to be hurt Jacob. You just don’t and it hurts me when you think you do.” “I’m sorry.” Jacob said as he ran a thumb over the top of my hand. “What are you sorry for exactly?” Gavin probed. Jacob didn’t answer the question in clear conflict with himself, two sides warring inside of him over control of what was said next. “Jacob how do you feel about Tyler right now, this moment.” “I love him,” he finally answered after a moment. “But…” “But?” I interjected. “I don’t deserve it! When those guys came at me I was going to let them hurt me because I don’t deserve to love Ty, or to have him love me back because of what I did to him, how could anyone physically hurt the one they love?!” Jacob exploded, the words rushing out of him. “Like your father hurt you.” Gavin commented dropping the hammer. Jacob’s head snapped up at Gavin in shock like he had been slapped. “I don’t… I don’t want to be like him.” My gut fell as Jacob made that admission, but I knew that wasn’t the only reason. I stayed quiet as Jacob wiped away the tears that were trying to form in his eyes. “You aren’t like him Jacob,” Gavin began sitting forward in his chair. “If you were like him do you think Tyler would have done every thing he has for you?” I continually remain impressed with Gavin, and we need to see more of him. I think there is a place for Gavin or someone like him in Salvaging The Road To Redemption Amen brother...Amen!!!- 20 comments

Ya think????? Mommy Dearest is showing her true colors, perhaps if she had been home a bit more she realize he daughter is well on her way to bimbohood through the quaint little town of Slutsville...what are the odds she is preggers before the end of the story, or at least a very convincing scare... Seth is a doormat, while I hope it changes soon and he finds some testicular fortitude, I hold out little hope for him...he's destined for a very unrewarding career as a mediocre middle manager... Blake needs a friend, hopefully Seth can find his cajones and be that friend... Craig is a sexual predator and needs exposing in the worst way possible...food for thought, do you suppose he knows Blake??? And...for all the wrong reasons, I keep thinking this story takes place on the island of misfit humans...unlike...

A trip down memory lane, bringing back some fond memories. One can hope there will be follow-up chapters as much of this one was a re-capsulation of the original.

Will we see it become a Cat 5 cyclone???

I have to agree with @drpaladin regarding the whole scene revolving around the key, it seemed forced, more to the point, the grandfathers knowing the boys are a committed couple should have left instructions for leaving two keys. Thinking back on the incident in the parking lot, I'm assuming that this wasn't the perp's sole escapade and a trip to the pokey was/is in order...let's hope the perp wasn't lying in wait to see where the boys were off to in order to exact revenge later... The coursework is going to severely impact their time together...

At some point young padawan Jake, the boy who knows it all, got on the bus to Loserville and seems pretty determined to stay seated...Then there's the parents who manage not to have enough time for their children...

Any chance of being adopted???? “This place has 52 acres in total, with a 207-square metre fully furnished home, three-bedroom and study that has been made another bedroom, with two bathrooms and laundry. The house has two reverse cycle air conditioners, solar and gas hot water systems, power solar panels and batteries, half of the garage is a man cave with a refrigerator, lounge chairs, pool table, big screen television and even a couple of kayaks included, and also two large water tanks.

Talk about being on the horns of a dilemma...Think it is time to round up the neighbors and set a trap!!

Living in Massachusetts we've had our share of all sorts of storms from blizzards, hurricanes, ice storms and tornadoes. One winter about 8 years ago, saw nearly 150 inches of snow fall in less than two months. The Blizzard of 1978 saw 44 inches of snow land in my front yard and parts of northern Rhode Island had 50 plus inches of snow... In 1991 Hurricane Bob took out our power for nearly 2 weeks with wind speeds of 135mph/217km/h.It seems that every time the weather service announces a huge storm, there's a run on milk, bread, and toilet paper... Right now it looks as if the cyclone is a cat 3, here's hoping it doesn't intensify...
