My husband and I try to do small things for ones we know that need it, but I'd rather tell about my grandson. When he was in the second grade, last year, he came to our house one weekend. As much as he didn't want to, he went shopping with me that Saturday. He found a North Face jacket that he wanted and I bought it for him. I knew he had plenty of coats, but since he'd been such a sport and went with me, I thought he deserved it. At least it wasn't a senseless toy or something.
A couple of days later, my daughter called me. "Guess what mom? You grandson doesn't have his new coat anymore."
I couldn't believe he'd already lost that jacket. "Where did he lose it?" I asked.
"He gave it away. There's a little boy in his room that always wears two or three shirts because he doesn't have a jacket. The teacher told the little boy it was too cold for him to go out at recess since he didn't have a coat. Kyle gave the little boy his coat, and stayed in himself. Then, he told the little boy to keep it since he had some more jackets at home."
I've never been so proud of someone, but I've found that my daughter and Kyle both are very generous. That's the second coat he's given away at school and he's only in the third grade.
