  1. I think the idea has merit, depending on the location of the home. There are a lot of scary areas in low cost areas of Detroit. The images of multiple burned out houses in a row are not just media hype. However that doesn't mean that I think the city is lost. There's a lot of work to do but anything that could revitalize the city would be a good thing. There's too much history involved to let it go.
  2. I'd like to believe it's all about balance. Two many flowery words and you come off as trying to be too intellectual and turn off your readers. Some here and there and they can add unique character to your style while still conveying your story. But clean and simple can be just as effective. While its true that in the electronic age, touching a word for its definition is easy, I would prefer not to disrupt the flow of the story more often than necessary. I like to keep everyone in their headspace and hopefully immersed in the tale.
  3. Nice to have you with us, Mark008. Welcome to GA!
  4. Gratz, Totally!!
  5. The only thing I miss when we go on vacation up to the island is access to clay and a functioning studio. However that may eventually correct itself as the hubby's daughter who lives on the island gets herself setup. Even though I may miss that outlet, I get to make up for it because trips to the island are total writing vacations for me
  6. Best song ever.
  7. That would be a good reason to avoid getting them. Red tattoo ink contains a fair amount of nickel in the colorants and can cause a reaction while it heals. My geisha went through a mild itching stage because of this. Other color may have other ingredients that could cause sensitive skin types a few problems.
  8. Happy Birthday, Krista! :D :D (and before you ask, it's still hanging a little to the left...)
  9. I'd say she's kind of twisted... ...welcome to the family
  10. I'm thinking something far more sensitive to draw a sword down the length of.
  11. Now I'm intrigued. Tell us where it is now before I start using my imagination out loud.
  12. The authors of that article want to portray the worst parts of the gay community (which in all truth exists just as much in the rest of society as well) as common in order to scare parents into their set of values. Ex-gay communities will often liken homosexuality to addiction; it serves their agenda and misinformation. The sad part being, they hold onto their faith so tightly, they will refuse to acknowledge pure fact unless it comes out of the mouths of their spiritual leaders. Their power is dwindling these days but it by no means extinguished. All you can do is be an example that defies all their nonsense.
  13. My partner likes to keep the fridge constantly packed, so I know there are things in there that get lost for an embarrassingly long time. If you ask me, I'll deny everything. I'm a little scared to check the back corners to see what's there sometimes. He can do the clean out.
  14. You have a much healthier outlook than I think I would have in your position. While I hope I never have to have the same health issues, I'd like to thank you for sharing your experience. Just the idea that anyone can find some kind of positive energy when faced with so much uncertainty is a lesson we should all hold close. You never know when you might need it. Let's make 2014 a better year all around.
  15. Good policy to keep a client thinking seriously about having the work done. My shop takes credit cards as well as others in town. (Although a few are cash only.) I should ask them if they ever have issues with people trying for refunds/chargebacks.
  16. I can't say I'm surprised by some of the statistics in the video, but I'm hardly distressed either. While history is always important in how all things came about, it's very hard to impress its relevance on many people's day to day lives. The order of the first four presidents is not a bit of information a lot of us strive to know to improve our ability to perform our jobs and take care of our families. And during school it can certainly make it difficult to turn a potentially dry subject into more than just a method of regurgitating facts on a test when the students would rather be somewhere else. I don't envy any teacher's job and the expectations handed out to them.
  17. According to a forum post, Riley was having personal issues with finding the time to finish English Teen and felt it necessary to pull the story in its entirety. That obviously happened well after the Q & A had been created and scheduled, which is too bad, because it really was a great coming of age story.
  18. Excellent batch of Q & A! Kudos to the questioners and the questionees!
  19. That's so not right. LOL
  20. Happy New Year to all of you! May 2014 be better than the year before! (It kind of has no choice... )
  21. Would we need to provide a story to review or is there an option for one to be assigned and therefore remove potential bias in advance? That might be a way to drum up attention on a story that might not get press time otherwise. Just a thought. I'd be game for an assigned story review.
  22. The Carthera series is a big part of how I found GA. I had read Bonds Unbroken and the next and was reading Hypnotic on Lit when I found out there were more chapters here. I was already hooked and couldn't wait to read the next installment. The whole series is sexy and touching, tragic and downright violent when necessary, but not gratuitously. I found the hybrid race to be very engaging and I had no trouble suspending my disbelief. It's definitely worth the read. Unbroken Bonds is a great story on its own and the series just gets better from there.
  23. To you and everyone else who had such rotten health and personal issues in 2013: I say we just skip forward and go right to January 1st. Onward to 2014 and better days!
  24. I know the feeling! One year they bought me a shower radio. Like I need to start dancing in the morning on a slippery surface...
  25. I would totally wear that tie. LOL
