I have two questions. 1) Is it pronounced Gin-NO-ah or GIN-no-ah? I meant to ask before, while reading “Guarded.” 2) I don’t understand the worry for Elias’ safety. The Costa could simply buy the piece if they wanted it (although I agree with droughtquake that the Don will probably gift it). No need to steal it or Elias. I can’t imagine them holding Elias hostage and forcing him to create. Too many cops, current and former, would look for him and again, they can BUY his art.

Agreed. Also, the longer she waits, the less likely she is to be believed. There was no mention of a shower, so there may still be evidence. Katya, maybe it’s just me, but this story doesn’t have the character development of your other stories. Is this something you wrote awhile back and are just posting now?

I feel dumb but I don’t understand this bit: “It’s time for our family to join royal court and become court officials. To do that, we needed to earn great merit. Which we can gain by supplying the imperial army at war with great success, then the Emperor will reward us.” “It’s a gamble,” Jihan said. “The Emperor might end up asking for all our heads.” What I don’t understand is, if Jihan is supplying the emperor’s army, why would the emperor ever want to kill Jihan’s family?

I think Trevor will propose to Rudy, since Trevor’s the one who balked at marriage talk before. And I wouldn’t be surprised if more than one couple decided to go in together on the lodge. Kennedy and Kieran won’t leave London — Kieran’s boss would want Kennedy’s head, remember?

Agreed. I could see some vulnerable, wounded young woman acting just as Amber did. This took an awful turn. I appreciate the story not following a predictable path, but I don’t want to read about these characters anymore. I’ll catch you on the next story, Katya. Thank you for being steady and prolific!

It was the punch bowl that made it so formal. Like, who pulls out a punch bowl for two people? If she’d made it in a pitcher, that would make sense. It’s funny what our brains latch onto!

I have to say, not a fan of Christy. Yes, she got Jake out of a horrible situation. But she's manipulative — getting others to do her homework, etc. Hopefully her parents aren’t the type to pay her way into some prestigious university.

If Christy and Jake have been friends since kindergarten, shouldn’t Christy’s parents have noticed the abuse? Especially if Jake’s parents didn’t try to hide it and hit Jake on the head and face often.

Wow. They forgave Clay hella fast. I guess it’s because they know him well, but he really hurt three people. I was relieved Jeremy hadn’t taken a bottle of pills. “I screwed up” is an understatement, and I feel Clay got off easy. I would be thinking, what’s to stop that ugliness coming out again? I know I’m in the minority.

Orson is probably sitting in his cabin thinking, “Good lord! What the hell have I dropped into?” He’ll probably get lots of visits from the other three because he’s (somewhat) objective ... and has his own, different shit to worry about. i forgot to mention earlier: YAY! ORSON HAS INDOOR PLUMBING!
