    Thanks, Lit I'm glad you enjoyed the story in spite of not knowing the books. That's almost the highest praise a fanfic writer can get. Laryn will have a much better chance of happiness with his Companion, his uncles and the other Herald Trainees in Haven. In return he will have to devote most of his life to the welfare of the kingdom, but I think he'll deem it worth while even if he never finds a permanent partner in love. As per the books few Heralds have the time to devote to a marriage and children and usually make do with shorter relationships or just short liaisons. It's one of the reasons the more traditional (read backwards) areas of Valdemar, like the border, are prejudiced against Heralds.

    Thanks, Bhopper I'm not surprised you got more out of my fanfic after reading the real thing. It's impossible to include all the information from the books, but it's also fun to find a way to make it work as stand-alone stories. On the other hand, if my stories tempt readers to seek out the Valdemar books, I happy to have provided M. Lackey with some new fans in return for borrowing her world.

    Thanks, dugh I hardly dare suggest you read my Valdemar anthology story because there's rather explicit intimacy, but you can skip Vanyel's POV and still make sense of the story. I'm sure you'll like Jonne.

    LOl, you're right, I should have said all three of my continuous stories, not just my CC stories. How could I ignore Rob, especially when I have three or four great @comicfan first line prompts lined up and just begging for a chapter.

    You should check out Myr's Book Bazar blog. I found a couple of new favorites there, recently. In this case it doesn't matter you're reading these stories in reverse order. In fact, I was hoping this snippet would entice readers to try out the longer Anthology story. Have fun, I'm off to bed.

    Thanks, CG Yeah, I guess you could say the Valdemar series is swords and sorcery books, but the good part is they include gay characters. I borrowed the setting and the main character Herald Vanyel as well as Guardsman Jonne. The rest of them I invented, so I guess you can stick to my fanfic in order to learn more. I leave my readers hanging in both my Incomplete stories, so why not this one too.

    I love that you focus on this aspect of Laryn's character. When Companions chose future Heralds one of the major requirements is their ability to care for others. As fully trained Heralds they are expected to care for the people of Valdemar - enough to die for them if necessary. Responsibility is another important trait and Laryn has that in plenty too, even though he's young. I think I'll have to return to him later, but right now other stories demand my attention.

    I think the 'Fantasy' tag in this case relates to it taking place in a make-believe world, rather than to the story content.

    Thanks, Gary Only Jonne and Herald Vanyel are from the books, everyone else are my invention. Laryn was a side character in my Valdemar Anthology story, but he suddenly popped into my head as the perfect focus for the Forbidden Love theme. I'm delighted you like him. The dislike of Holderkin for Heralds is Valdemar canon, so a Companion on search wouldn't be a welcome sight. Nerith will have to stay, but he's safe enough once Laryn is gone. No one cares what a stable boy does, unless he's caught with the Holder's offspring (boys or girls). Yeah , Valdemar is a tough world, and the Borders especially, and Heralds are always in the midst of danger.

    Our stories both began with an encounter with a stable boy, but sadly yours progressed to a bitter end. I shall hope they get reborn together in a more permissive day and age and not as brothers. Although, to me incest is mainly taboo between generations (parents-children) and in opposite-sex relationships (brother-sister), which may produce progeny. Neither applies to brothers together (or sisters btw), so my sensibilities are not offended by their love.

    so true, yet I feel more sorry for Jamie. At least Stanley had choices and he has a family. What has Jamie got ? Except perhaps the risk of ending up as a child-molesting priest trying desperately to relive those few happy moments before disaster struck.

    Ohhh, very clever, I liked the rerun of the scene but with a better ending. Waiting will be worth it, and it's not like it will be years. They can be friends and get to know each other, as long as it stays platonic.

    Love knows no limits of age, and at least there does not seem to be a wife to complicate matters. But I do understand Rob's reluctance. Hopefully, Iggy will convince Lea and Dylan to accept him as their father's partner.
