VERY big -- they're large enough not to hold up under their own weight before being fired, and he's imagining "the rebar needed for the assembly" -- which means the holes he put in their bases to mount them are at least 3/8" in diameter.
Glad Orson has his new leg. If you want to see some amazing artistic interpretations, look up The Alternative Limb Project - artificial limbs that make no attempt to appear to be realistic.
I'm extremely grateful for having a boss that understands how the weather can affect me; and realize that I'm quite lucky as I know people who have had bosses who would have expected them to be at work if they had just been in a wreck. It helps that I still manage to take care of things. One reason for going in this morning (and I'm about to leave - got distracted) is I can get more done in two hours this morning without any distractions that I would during the week with interruptions.
Yesterday was.... well... it was yesterday.
Going into work some this morning (though I'll clock it as yesterday) to make up for taking off early on Friday because of pain -- not that I have to, but will make the next week a bit less stressful if I spend a couple of hours today (ahem, yesterday) taking care of a couple of things.
My first thought on reading that was that mother-in-law will potentially have a fit in the morning -- she doesn't seem overly fond of their parenting style and can see her complaining about "what if they slept through <whatever>". 😕
Work has been crazy this week - yesterday afternoon and all day today was a chaotic mess where you are getting things done, it just doesn't feel like it and everything is taking longer than it should because of an unusual number of interruptions. All morning tomorrow will be spent in meetings with the Dept. Head trying to finalize a report he needs on Monday. At least tomorrow is Friday.
Yep -- they both discussed it before hand, if they were or weren't interested, what the 'ground rules' would be, etc. -- and they were both present so it's not cheating.
Now, whether or not it was a good idea is a different question, and could have different answers depending on your viewpoint - but cheating? no.
Orson & Elias -- Orson realizing he messed up by not making sure Elias knew where he was, and the unexpected maturity from Elias; realizing that Orson really does love him to make the offer to never see Wells again. I love that kid.
Harlan & his father - this will be interesting.
For some reason this reminded me of Designing Women's "Bernice’s Sanity Hearing" episode (the morning of her competency hearing, when Bernice has been drinking champagne):
Julia: "I hate to say this but liquor seems to have the opposite effect on you, you seem sharper."
Bernice: "I know that's why I don't drink very often but I figure today I've got to be at my best."
Love the 'fatherly' pride and protectiveness that Orson is showing in Elias; and still a bit of sadness that Elias still doesn't seem to understand how good his ceramics are.
Received notice that Chapter 5 was published -- but nothing for Chapters 2, 3, or 4. The spotty notification system strikes again.
Looking forward to binge-reading the last 4 chapters after I eat.
No -- just practical. I'd love to suggest that we stop giving each other gifts at Christmas (it's only 5 of us) as none of us are easy to shop for and the majority of time you end up with something you'd rather not have / wear / want; but I'd end up sounding like a Scrooge (which I will admit I partly am) so I don't.
