Happy New Year - Part II
Fae Briona commented on Carlos Hazday's story chapter in Happy New Year - Part II
Did you have this on a different site? I remember reading it before, after starting it here, but it seemed like it was longer when I read it originally (more chapters - maybe they were just shorter; or I'm just old and my memory is faulty). A great story. -
yeah - "Just like Dad was. You're right." says quite a bit. 😢 Those we love can hurt us the most.

I'm not really a writer - things pop into my heat now and then and demand to be written down, but not good otherwise; and at the moment there's too many competing emotions to make any coherent statement. So I'm going to do what I've done before, and use a selection of song lyrics to express my feelings on this -- both my birthday, today, and the 1-yr anniversary of the loss of my boy at the end of the week. Kind of traces my emotions from the beginning or our relationship, and the hesitancy he had for so long because he'd been hurt so bad, to grief, to (not quite yet) healing: 1 -------------------- Please let me try to I can heal the pain That you're feeling inside Whenever you want me You know that I will be Waiting for the day That you say you'll be mine He must have really hurt you To make you say the things that you do He must have really hurt you To make those pretty eyes look so blue Now you can't see my love is good And that I'm not him 2 -------------------- There's a big old hole in the middle of you 'Cause somebody left you black and blue Yeah we all make promises we can't keep And they're paper thin but cut so deep One day we're together then we're apart Why won't you let me fill up your empty heart 3 -------------------- I never cried the way I cried over you As I put down the telephone and the world it carried on As I watch the sun go down, watching the world fade away All the memories of you come rushing back to me All I want to do is kiss you once goodbye, goodbye 4 ------------------- I don't want to swim the ocean, I don't want to fight the tide, I don't want to swim forever, When it's cold I'd like to die. 5 -------------------- 'Cause I'm gonna be free and I'm gonna be fine (Maybe not tonight) 6. -------------------- When you feel you've had enough From this world that's giving up on you On you... Sometimes we can relax walking through the fire And when it all turns to dust We'll watch the ashes light up and we'll rise We'll rise And we'll be fine (And we'll be, And we'll be) (And we'll be, And we'll be) ================================== Not quite to the point of "being fine", but I know I'll get there - if only because my boy would want me to. 1) Heal the Pain, George Michael; 2) Empty Heart, Grace Potter; 3) For a Friend, The The Communards / Jimmy Somerville; 4) When It's Cold I'd Like to Die, Moby, 5) Delilah, Florence+The Machine, 6) We'll be Fine, Rebecca Ferguson

Can relate to that

I'll have to post the home-mix for pumpkin spice on the Recipes Worth Trying thread. Always prefer to mix my own spice blends - can control the taste better (and use fresher spices).

Home blended Pumpkin Pie Spice: 2 tbsp. ground cinnamon 2 tsp. ground ginger 1 tsp. ground cloves 1 tsp. ground allspice 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

Too close to the edge of the falls to be safe -- I think -- was the original reason it wasn't

Nothing to do with the story, but you should look up, Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles - a comic that puts Snagglepuss as a gay playwright in the 1950's dealing with the Lavender Scare & McCarthyism.

It's becoming increasingly common, not only with Universities but with employers -- and as you said, a single post of being drunk in Tijuana probably wouldn't get you blacklisted, quite a few would.

Sounds like Trurl's Machines from Fables for Robots or Seven Sallies of Trurl and Klapaucius from The Cyberiad, but I couldn't identify which fable.

Took tomorrow off, and all of next week. Have the funeral for my Aunt to go to on Saturday then I've no idea what I'll be doing the rest of the week. Might just drive in some random direction.

Having read this on another site, I knew I had to read this first, then read the new Charlie Boone story by @Geron Kees as a chaser. The chapter made me sad and angry when I read it the first time and still does -- but you're right that Clay's reaction, though horrible & hurtful to everyone around him, is a realistic one. He's acting on fear; trusting the "ignore it and it will go away" aproach; not reading what Mason sent because the fear keeps him from doing so... Orson - I feel for him. At least he knows he's welcome and wanted. They couldn't have made that more clear than by how they had his cabin retrofitted and put up all his things.

Just looked through that. Found what I assume is "series" [stories_series_pl] but there's no way to specify a title, and so would return all series by the selected author; and tags would require the author to be consistent in their use across all stories in the series, which is rarely the case; and tags that don't overlap with stories in another series, which is often the case.
-
I know this is an older thread but I frequently don't receive Notifications for stories or authors that I follow.
-
Not quite the same thing, but I've thought it would be nice to be able to follow story groups (like the "Charlie Boone" stories by Geron Kees, just as a random example) and not just the Author as a whole.

Take care of yourself.

With tornadoes around here you'd expect there to be a lot more buried lines than they actually are. It's generally cheaper for the electric company to string them above ground and take the risk of replacement than to bury them in our hard clay soil.

So...not a fan of bugs? 😁 Last time I went camping was with my best friend in high school ages and ages ago. We had the cooler in the tent (not in an area where bears were a concern) and had zipped things up. Thought we were ok. Woke up in the night to a racoon trying to open it up -- little bugger had managed to unzip the tent flap. Managed to unzip the tent more then get it outside. Then we made sure the zippers were tied together. Was an interesting trip.

After the Past - a vignette
Fae Briona commented on Mikiesboy's story chapter in After the Past - a vignette
Not read the original, but this makes me want to. 💗 -
Training for new systems -- I just went through that joy (didn't help the trainers had no clue what they were doing and changed the rules almost constantly for two years). I hope things get better for you @rickproehl. The new person we hired to handle some of the extra workload so the rest of us weren't going nuts accepted another job on campus. We're now arguing with the Dean's Office about getting a replacement authorized and the new dean is being a jerk about it. Nephropathy has been killing me today. Afraid my knee is starting to pinch the sciatic nerve. Hope I'm wrong; time will tell. I'll stop whining now.

Have fun cooking - it's something I usually enjoy. Today was mostly productive, and I hurt less than I expected too [most of the day] with the cold front starting to move through
-
Just from their character development in the previous few chapters, it was really the only choice.

Hope everyone has been having a good day. Been a lazy one for me - how I like my Saturdays to be.
