This is a modern interpretation of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast.
We have Brad, who because of events has become isolated, self-destructive and beastly. But he begins to change when he rescues Beau, a small kindhearted student with no family or friends.
Those are the main characters, but the other residents of Keller Hall are just as important, as you'll discover they have all suffered misfortune in their lives.
The main enemy is an individual called Gary; he is an individual that you don't want to mess with.
This isn't an easy story to read in parts, but it is so well written that you really get drawn into the lives of all the characters.
It is a dark story that features some difficult storylines, but the author leaves it to the individual reader, rather than going into graphic detail.

    Weekly Wrap Up
Is it cold in your neck of the woods 🥶
I heard it was getting below zero (32F) in southern parts of the US of A 😮 In November! I imagine I'm going to hear from our Florida contingent that it is getting down to 70F in the evenings
So an interesting week has come to a close. Scratch that, it wasn't an interesting week. It was kind of the 2nd week of November blah week. Now if it was your birthday, then I missed the bright, shiney happiness of the week! You should have included me to lift me up.
Oh, maybe it is the just the time/week of the year 😮
Question of the week: Have you participated in using the new Mood function yet? I"ve only had 2 so far  Constipated 💩 and Cheeky  I think I like Cheeky better
Oh, before I forget, I know a lot of countries around the world have a celebration on Tuesday the 11th. Remembrance Day in Canada, Veteran's Day in the US, also known as Armistice Day in the UK. So I implore all of you to think of those currently serving, or have served in the past, living or gone forever, and give a moments of reflection at 11th hour on the 11th day.

Maybe there is a second question of the week. My grandfather served in WWII, by great uncle was a Sgt. Major in WWII and toured the concentration camps in Europe  My dad was in the military, army like his dad and uncle, never saw active warfare but served in the UN peaceforce back in Cypress, and the Sinai Peninsula (Egypt/Israel), then a few tours, at the time West Germany, where I was born , as part of the NATO Force. I'm not looking for political statements here, but just a deep recognition of people who have put their lives on the line for all of us. No matter what side. So tell us about a person you know that served their country with honour .
    Now onto the Wrap Up

    Weekly Wrap Up
    YAWN
You know what? I could use another hour of sleep tonight
Yes, in North America it is that time of the year where if you have such a thing as Daylight Savings Time, it is coming to an end in a few hours. I do find it funny that since tonight we are getting an extra hour of sleep, so to speak, there is less bitching than if we were losing an hour  Oh sorry, putting forth a compelling argument without any emotion involved. Is that better?
Yesterday was Halloween 😮 Did you dress up, and if so, what as? No, it did not get sheet faced, much to the disappointment of some people here. I think I ask this yearly, so I will ask again, how many trick-or-treaters did you get? I"m keeping a yearly total to see if the numbers are going up or down  One friend mentioned he picked up a couple of the 50 box of mini chocolate bars and he went through them all. His roommate came home with like a box of 30 full size chocolate bars. He said they mainly get teenagers so he got the bigger bars. End of night, no big bars got handed out to big kids, so they are in his bedroom for snacking
For some reason I can't stop yawning 🥱. Not that you all are boring me .
Okay, so a nice quiet week for me to wrap up, but still a big week in what was done on the GA News Blog.
Tuesday, Myr went a diving. I wonder if he ever swims above Niagara Falls .
Now what was I talking about a big week? Well this is the final week of our very well participated in Yearly Anthology: Creature Feature. Get your reading all in now:

2 or 3 blogs if you count the Wrap Up, but we did have 7 Words of the Day:

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Whoa!
    Stop the clock!!
Who said we could be a week left in October already 😮 I mean, less than a week to Halloween 🎃, 4 weeks from 'merican Thanksgiving, 2 months away from Christmas🎄. When did summer end? Oh wait, we've had our first snowfall already but where I live that can happen 12 months a year
Speaking of Halloween... next Friday! Any plans for you? I live in a secured building, no it is not a prison  🔐  . We don't get kiddies trick-or-treating, so not going to buy any candy this year. I usually give in to a weakness and buy something that I shouldn't have but end up taking way too much insulin to combat against . Not this year!  How about going out? Some of you must have children or grandchildren. Do you go trick-or-treating with them? Or what is the age that kids stop trick-or-treating nowadays? Seemed back in my day, people didn't appreciated 13 or 14 y/o's ringing their doorbell and telling them you were dressed as surly teenagers  Or do you go to a mall, or community centre? Curious minds want to know!!
Today I was flipping through a streaming channel up here in Canada called Crave, and found the original 90210 series. I told someone that it reminded me of my teens. They called me out on that statement so I said I was 20 when it came on out in 1990 . Maybe I was 22
I see we are 3 weeks into the Yearly Anthology, and my spy deep in the GA Anthology network has told me that it was not the last week of stories! So how many weeks to go, 1, 2, 3, maybe 4? You guess. Speaking of stories, how are you making out on reading them? Also, I know some of you are die hard Anthology fans, and reading as much as possible, so bravo  Do you park any writing you are doing, or reading stories that you are engrossed in to read them? Just curious .
Now to check on what Cia did on Monday... Oh, this was a week where the Monday's GA Blog was on hold for the Yearly Anthology. So you got 2 days of my last Weekly Update . I hope Cia took the day to go to a spa and soak in a natural hot spring, get a massage, facial, manicure, pedi and more!   Me thinks that did not happen
Myr checked in on Tuesday for a look at a Deep Dive again this week:
Then it was Val's turn to wrap things up and announce the week 3 Yearly Anthology Stories!

Myr was a busy little beaver, pumping out 7 new Words of the Day. I did pretty good this week  How about you?
adroit, conspire, abhor, inhalation, decorum, buffoon, collusion

    Weekly Wrap Up
One week was in the books, and now, so is the second week! I'm talking about snow storms   No, I'm talking about the Yearly Anthology. I know a few of you read all the stories after week 1, have you done so after week 2?
I"m going to keep tonight short and sweet  I have an overnight guest , and it isn't Brad .
So quick question for GA Land, how many of the anthologies have you read so far?
Jumping right into what happened the past week, we had some interesting blogs.
Monday, we had a great review brought to us by @W_L. Lots of great comments on the story and the author:
Tuesday, Myr got his hardy, har, har on, when he did this Deep Dive:
Thursday, it was time for Round Deux of the Yearly Anthology: Creature Feature:

Okay, it was a short week for the Weekly Blog . Myr did not get any such break. He had 7 Words of the Day to come up with:
cobble, precedence, intoxicant, concoction, absurdity, clarification, grifter

It seems like October is nearly over but today is still the second Monday of the month. That means that @W_L did a great review on a story that definitely has my interest!

What Happened To The Baxter Boys by Mancunian

    Reviewer: W_L
    Status: Complete
    Word Count: 80,270

This reads like a British balm for a weary gay soul—comforting, warm, and restorative. If you’re trudging through a bad day, numbed by apathy, or worn down by the headlines, this story offers a steady smile and a reminder that kindness still matters. It’s less about gritty plots of these vulnerable characters than grace they receive: a gentle reprieve that prioritizes tenderness, community, and the small wins that keep people moving through the dark.
I picked it up because it treads ground I first encountered in Suki Fleet’s This Is Not a Love Story, which follows homeless queer teens in a much harsher London environment. Suki Fleet’s novel is brilliant but emotionally pulverizing; by the end, you will need to crawl with your last ounce of strength towards the light of hope. By contrast, Mancunian’s What Happened to the Baxter Boys is lighter on the spirit and, set in Manchester, feels less brutal in tone.
The setup—brothers Charlie and Michael finding a family with the help of Max and Stacy—won’t surprise seasoned readers, but its familiarity is part of the charm. Even if the arc is idealized, there’s something genuinely healing about watching these boys catch a break, and the story delivers that respite without apology. Though there are moments of conflict, homophobia, and human malice in this universe; these elements are minor points in the overall narrative.
Overall, it’s a good, heartwarming read—ideal when you’re seeking comfort.

It is pouring out. Yet an hour to the west, in the foothills where I just came from a Thanksgiving dinner, it is not raining but snowing like crazy. We are supposed to wake up in the city to a blanket of snow.

Rain, rain, go away and come back another day
Why you ask? They said such rain may just turn into the s*** word overnight  While some people might be laughing their heads off, all I can wish on them is to have a long, damp, wet, rainy, cold winter  You know who you are
So a big huge thank you to Cia, my favourite admin the past 2 weeks , for helping me out with the Weekly Wrap Up. I'm glad you all showed her your love
I was off to Vancouver for a week to visit with family and friends, and the one consistent thing was that I ate too much food. All meetings of cousins, aunt and uncle, and some lifelong friends seemed to involved food  Although the scale may not be clicking higher for now. I better get in a exercise routine before the winter sets in and all I want to do is hibernate. I wonder if a certain bear in Sweden is getting tired yet🧸.
Now I know we have a great range of readers of the Weekly Wrap Up, but I want to know no matter what age you are, would you consider yourself a fit person, and if so, what do you do to stay in shape? Are you 80 years old and up at 4 am to do a 5 mile jog daily? Are you 20 years old and can eat a restaurant out and just watch people work out and your metabolism speeds up enough to burn all those calories off? If you don't want to say if you are in shape or not, don't worry about it
Enough babbling by me, we had a busy week, I think, at the GA News Blog, so let's check in!

Monday, Cia was into wrap up September with the CSR Discussion Day. Did you read and participate?
Tuesday, Myr had to wear his fur lined cowboy boots and cowboy hat down to the lake to go for his Deep Dive:
Thursday, Valkyrie got out her typewriter and banged out an article on looking back and looking forward to our Special Events:
Friday, she was back again, with another couple of prompts for us to explore:

Words of the Day. Myr has made them a bit more tricky
quiescence, sublimate,  pensiveness, spleen, foreboding, exaltation, melancholia

    Weekly Wrap Up
Happy Fall, or Spring depending on your hemisphere  Not sure about you, but we are sitting about 6-10 degrees Celsius above our normal temperatures.
Now before you all say it is all the hot air coming from me, we can test that theory. I left for Vancouver on Saturday morning. Thank you Cia for putting in the stories this week and doing the wrap up next week  . So we will see if Calgary cools off, and Vancouver heats up. Actually that would be good for the ego as I think I could say I'm hot
Before I hear it all from some of you, I'm meeting up with a friend named Brad, and probably have some drinks. To keep certain people quiet, I'm going to say we will not go to a pub, maybe a bar, a lounge, a restaurant, a roadhouse, a microbrewery. Anything but a pub .
A lot of people love the fall due to the trees changing colours in the more northern climates, before they are buried beneath 6 feet of s***.  I'm not sure if I"ve asked this before, probably did but I'm too lazy to go through all the past blogs to find out. What is your favourite season and why? Mine would be winter. Especially after a snow fall when everything is nice and white and pristeen. If by chance it is cold out, the sound carries much further than any other season. You can hear someone pop open a beer from a mile away
Oh, did I tell you that you now have UNDER 2 WEEKS to get your 2025 GA ANTHOLOGY submitted to the proof team by October1st.
Shall we be like a teenager and wrap it up?
Monday, Cia was back with a brand new Signature Author Feature:
Tuesday, Myr went deep down and reviewed a new genre this week:
Wednesday, Cia was back and had us all looking at the Signature Excerpt:
Thursday, it was Val's time to step up and make a bigger reminder than mine above; she's such a size queen :
Friday was her turn again to come at us with a look back at an oldie and goodie of a Prompt. Did you try it out?So we had 5 blogs this week, and add onto that 7 Words of the Day. It was a busy week!

    Weekly Wrap Up
I really need to start using my calendar and putting in reminders to do the Weekly Wrap Up  Either that or retire and go to one of the homes that someone keeps pressuring me to go to
My apologies for being late again.

This Strange World Needs a Kicking!

In the last couple of years, I have become an avid watcher of the live-action medium of Asian BL (Boys Love) dramas.  Now I am not remotely the target audience for such dramas, but I have fallen in love with them regardless.  I do mention them frequently on a community board here on GA, and after reading so many of my posts, a friend there recommended to me, more than once, that I should read a particular story by Laura S. Fox  This story I somehow skipped over when it was being posted a few years ago, but as a lover of BL, was right up my preferential alley.
This Strange World Needs a Kicking, is quite the wild tale indeed.  It’s a story of body (and universe) switching between Kai, a nerdy, but average high school boy in our world, and Sebastian, a beautiful, but aloof prince from a high fantasy world that runs on BL logic.
That may sound a little complicated right off the bat, but that’s just the very beginning.
Kai’s best friend, the handsome and athletic Milo, is literally in the middle of confessing his love for Kai when the body switch happens, and Prince Sebastian’s introduction to the real world is the tail end of this conversation.  Meanwhile Kai ends up in the body of the beautiful prince, naked, and next to and equally beautiful and naked Conrad, Prince Sebastian’s male concubine.
What follows is a madcap tale, of two fish very much out of their usual waters trying to navigate realms and interpersonal relationships they barely understand.
One a prince, used to governing a fantasy realm, plopped into a 21st century city, with modern technology, lingo, and a distinct lack of the monsters, magic, and social classes he is accustomed to.  The other a 21 century, seemingly straight, American teenager stuck in a love triangle with two ridiculously beautiful men, not to mention having to deal with governing a kingdom, dragons, assassins, magic, and his Sebastian’s possibly untrustworthy cousin.
Though I’m sure this sounds a little complicated, what the story truly is at its essence, is a tale of two young men finding themselves and the love they had no idea they were so in need of.
All illustrated masterfully, and hilariously, by Laura S Fox’s signature writing.
Even if you aren’t a BL aficionado, I truly can’t recommend this story enough.

    Weekly Wrap Up
    What a rollercoaster of a week! 😮
It was a lot of highs , it was a lot of lows . No, I did not borrow this from Dickens . Yet I, and you hopefully made it through it.
I, like others have noticed the huge switch has been flipped since we hit September here in my neck of the woods. It seems like it was late June and I was talking about the sun being seen close to 10:30 at night. Now, it is like at 6:15 someone turned the lights out and we all went to bed for the fall and winter  Maybe I need to find a job of the same latitude down in the Southern Hemisphere. With remote work, I'm sure someone on Australia would take me in for 6 months of the year.
I think Australia would work. But, I don't really want to be like 12 hours ahead though, as I would be awake when everyone is asleep down under while I work. Or maybe I got that all mixed up since Melbourne is 14 hours ahead of me, or maybe not. Might have to go somewhere in South America to stay in the same time zone. Oh, maybe that won't work either, I'd need to build a raft somewhere in the middle of the Southern Ocean between Santa Cruz, Argentina and Auckland Islands, New Zealand. Considering there is absolutely no land mass probably within 1000's of kms in any direction, I imagine the internet would be spotty .
Okay. I will just stock up on lightbulbs for a long dark fall and winter!
I remember going and visiting a friend in Dallas and then in Houston, and was surprised how little deviation that was between the sunrise and sunset in the summer and the winter. Then again on the equator, they would be 12 hours of each year round, would they not? I'd probably be too damn hot to notice
Now I guess my mind is at ease that I'm staying put. Now shall we see what happened last week?
Monday, Cia kicked off a normal week here at GA and brought us the all new CSR story for September:
Tuesday, Myr took us on a voyage to the genre of Poetry:
    Thursday, Valkyrie checked in to see if you have got your creature on. You have 1 month to go to get your anthology in;

Friday, she was baaaaaack  She gave us a couple of fall prompts:

We had a Word of the Day. Did you check each one out? Did you learn any new words this week ? Believe it or not, I never knew the difference between compliment and complement 😮!!
odyssey, omission, emission, complement, compliment, atrocious, proponent

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Like wowsers  !
Where did the summer go? In my neck of the woods, Labour Day is the unofficial last day of the summer season. Not that we will have a blizzard blowing in on the 2nd, although some people think that happens in Canada  (not naming names) and yet we still have summer weather all month. Just things kind of slow right down. Resorts are quieter, kiddies are back in school, big kiddies are in uni/college/trade school, etc.
I decided to take a work week out of town last week  I went to my friends cabin in the mountains and worked during the day, overlooking the lake and all the people surfing behind boats, waterskiing,  paddle boarding, kayaking, and canoeing. No sail boats as there was zero wind. It actually was a very non stressful week to me  Sure, I wasn't out playing in the lake, but when the computer shut off for the day, I got to have some fun!!
Sitting on the porch reading some stories and comments on the iPad was nice and relaxing after a cooling off of mid 90's, low 30's days, in the evenings.

Okay, I hope I haven't made any one jelly
I had a bit of an abbreviated Wrap Up last week as the Saturday was the day I drove up to the lake and I was originally supposed to go on Friday, so I thought Saturday was Friday. Silly Steve
Now a question, as holidays are always fun, most of the US of A and Canada have Labour Day (take note of the spelling my 'merican friends ) as a stat holiday that both government and private employers recognize.
So first off, do you have Labour Day in your neck of the woods, and any Labour Day plans? It is pride here, we like to be fashionable late around here . Tomorrow is parade day and I will be attending again. Need to make it known that we are still here . Then in the evening the bunch of old fags (can I say that ) that I hang out with some times, will be having a bbq.
Now let me know about your plans, if any.

Onto the Weekly Wrap Up, Yahooooooo!

Tuesday Mry went all spooky on us again :
Thursday, Ms. Valkyrie was by with great article that @Libby Drew wrote a few years ago on how to write a short stories, with an idea of anthologies:
Friday, she was baaaaack  This time with a couple of prompts:

The leader among us gave lots of words this week to comment, learn, and have fun with:
    discretion , euphemism , regulate , narcissist , supremacy , restrained , ironic

    Weekly Wrap Up
Wow! What a week of the ever so popular Secret Author contest, I guess we could call this SA Week. We found out who was connected to which story  We also found out the winners of the most popular story from Readers and Authors. Congratulations to @impunity and @Thirdly respectfully. It turns out that Thirdly didn't write all of the stories 😮 I guessed all of them were written by Thirdy . At least I got 1 right  Just before posting my guess, I noticed the rules about only one story per author. I'm not the best on paying attention to details .
I think one of the great things about the SA Contest and the other Anthologies, is that we still have a LOT of other stories and chapters being posted at the same time. It is kind of like an avalanche of activity on the boards . Check out some of the other stories below.
I guess the kiddies down south are back in skewl, and the kiddies up north will start in a week and a bit depending on where in the northern hemisphere you are.
We used to have a lot of college aged writers and the first few weeks of back to uni or college, we saw a bit of decrease of new content. It will be interesting to see if that holds true this year or not. Or, I imagine if you have kids of your own, you might be tied up with the back to school rush and for a lot of the kids, the back to school blues .
When you were in non-advanced education, were you the kid that couldn't wait for school to start up again after a summer break, or were you one that tried to come up with a reason to not go back ?
I think in elementary and then junior high, we had those where I grew up, I didn't want to go back. High School was the start of HS sports and meant some teammates would shower  No, I wasn't just a perv in HS, I actually liked to get back to seeing a wider base of friends and catching up that we might not have talked over the summer. Not like we had computers and cell phones back then to follow people  Back then if you followed someone, you were a stalker .
This PSA is to make sure you don't stalk people!!
On Monday, Cia rolled out the carpet and introduced each author to each story in our Secret Author Contest:
Tuesday, Myr tipped his toes in the water to do a Deep Dive. In keeping with the SA contest, this one was a mystery too :
Wednesday was the day that Cia announced the winners of the best use of the theme for the SA contest. Did you get to vote for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd?
Friday, Cia wrapped up the week with naming the winners of the most popular stories, as voted by both readers and authors:

    Words of the Day:
obsequious, lethargy, paramount, insistence, mythos, scorching, sarcastic

    Weekly Wrap Up
Hello GA'ers  Or would that be GA'yers  I like GA'ers better
So thank the unusual weather here in my neck of the woods. I got woken up by a thunderstorm and have kind of been watching the lighting storm lighting up the bedroom. Whilst doing so, I said to myself, 'Self, did you do the Wrap Up last night before bed?' I knew I had not, so here I am at 3:15 AM wrapping things up
I was out to a smaller town called Golden, BC the past few days. Took two my my nephews to the highest suspension bridge in North America and actually made it across. Then ziplined back across the canyon and took the lower suspension bridge to do the mountain coaster. You regulate your speed, I left the brakes off and loved it!! I thought of @TalonRider as I was going down . The boys enjoyed the adventure park which was them way up in the trees doing different obstacles on 4 different courses that I could never attempt . We skipped the axe throwing as we were all too tired at that time.
Now if you had a park like that, don't you think you'd be filling your machines with the $5 bottles of water and other beverages other than pop on a ridiculously hot day? Nope, everything sold out but pop . Water, Gatorade, Iced Tea and pop was all the same price.
Next day we went white water rafting down the Kicking Horse river! It was a great trip and everyone had a blast!!! There was like 11 rafts in our group and it was nuts going down the river doing class 2, 3 and 4 rapids. It is 5 km (3 miles) where you drop a total of 137 meters (450 feet) in about 1.5 hours. Luckily nobody fell out of their boats or flipped their rafts, but everyone definitely got wet .
Now if you ever been to B.C. (British Columbia) it does have its unofficial nickname, Bring Cash  I had to save all the pop bottles from the kids to help pay for some of this trip .  But the boys had a blast and I guess they have told just about everyone they know. Took the 16 and 13 y/o nephews. The 18 y/o decided to go to Indianapolis for World Drum and Brass championships I guess. So I will have to make it up to him when he gets back. At least I know when I take him out to a fancier restaurant, he will probably eat all that he ordered, unlike his younger brothers .
How about you all? Any exciting vacation days taken? This was unplanned but I knew I couldn't go camping this year. Did you get away 1 day to do something wild and crazy? if not, just do it
Side note: Do you think I should have told a certain author beforehand that I was going to do what some may consider life threatening activities, so she knows that I might not finish looking over her chapters before she posts? I didn't see it as a problem
Well let's get onto the wrap up before I see the sun
Monday, Cia had a great interview to finish up the past months CSR Feature's author. Give it a read, it was really great!!
Myr went all spooky on us when he did the Deep Dive into the Horror Genre:
We kind of had a malfunction at the junction for the rest of the week  Cia wrote a blog, just never got formatted as a blog  I only have one thing to do per week on the GA schedule here, I would hate to think all the mistakes I would personally make if I had to do what she does daily and weekly 😮. The blog did get up on Friday though. If you read any of the Secret Author stories, make sure you check this one out:

Now here is the Words of the Day as provided by Myr:
proliferate, vellichor, yaffle, zenith, apathetic, cosmology, cryptid
And since I'm so late... here is today's word too :
    heliotropism

    Weekly Wrap Up
Sadly I think it is happening  I think my desktop is coming to a end of its lifespan. Two days ago, it started doing a split screen of webpages on its own. No, this was not my double vision . Then I lost sound. Then finally it was on, but nothing on the monitor  I turned it off for a day and tried to use my iPad in its place and that seemed to just piss me off 😜 I like to type with a full keyboard and screen(s) personally.
This evening I gave it one more try. Turned it on, let it go through its 10 minute warm-up (and don't tell me too much porn, I have Krista for that ). Nothing came up on the screens and then no sound and i got mad and just hit the side of it. Viola!! My screens work, my sound is back, and I'm back in business.
**Edit to add: Krista thinks this makes her sound like she is providing me porn . No, just she accuses me of having it on my computer all the time
Now I'm faced with the decision of should I replace it now, before I have to bury the hard drive in the giant electronic dumpster in the sky, or should I take it to a repair shop to have them see if they can fix it up? My biggest issue until the other day, was just it so slow. Back in my early windows days, I learned how to run msconfig, check my startup menu, turn off applications on startup, but none of that works anymore. What is a guy to do ? I have the latest Norton, and Malwarebytes.
If I buy something new, I think I will go with a laptop instead of a desktop. I don't think I need the 2 TB of memory I have on this machine. As my phone becomes more useful and also the never needing a CD Rom Drive (yes kids, look that up on Google if you don't know what it is ), I guess I need the RAM to satisfy my impatient existence.
What do you all suggest? Laptop, Desktop, don't say Apple, I'm too old to learn all the workings of an Apple system. I'm good with my iPhone and iPad.  That will be the question of the day.
Shall we now check out what happened here on the GA News Blog?
Monday, the Review Team in the form of Chris did a great new review. Make sure you check out the Review and the Story:
Tuesday, Myr went for a Deep Dive or did he  Cia showed up to talk about the best held Secret at GA in a year!
Myr was NOT to be outdone  He still went for his weekly dive:
We had a break on Wednesday and then Val rode in on her horse to bring us some news about the upcoming 2025 GA Anthology:
Friday found Val coming back to get in some Prompts going. A lot of response on them this week:

I got all the words this week
condescending, apoplectic, adversarial, rind, ubiquitous, detrimental, impetus

    Weekly Wrap Up
I took the desktop into a shop. $45 for the diagnostic and they couldn't find anything that was causing such a slow boot up. He was actually surprised it took over a 1/2 hour or more before starting up till you could even start any app or browser, then another 15 mins before typing into a browser
He called and since I backed up all my files on the cloud ☁️ I went with the cheaper option for him to reformat the hard drive and install Windows 11 on it again. Just means that I had to load all the apps back on, Office 365, Adobe, etc. Oh well, it is a hell of a lot faster now.
In a way, it wasn't as bad as I thought when I thought of reformatting and losing everything on the drive. It had me glad that I did all the backups that I did. I hope I can get a couple of more years out of this one . Then only file I loss was my collection of all the blog banner headers  So I just spent a half hour putting them in a file on the computer again.
I'm finishing up the past 2 weeks of a staycation. Did I get anything really done, nah  I caught up on sleep. Now I will not be looking forward to Monday AM getting up at 6 AM 😭
I really don't have a question of the week this week 😮. So how is the weather in your neck of the woods ? We just had the 3rd wetest July on record and August hasn't started off much better. If I start growing gills and flippers, I will let you all know .
Let's check what happened this past week, shall we.
All hell broke loose on Monday . Cia released a blog with the link for the authors of one of the Secret Author contest, and all the stories. now everyone is trying to figure out who is associated with which story. 12 pages already, oh my!!
Tuesday was Myr's chance to have us look at the Literary Fiction genre:

Word's Of The Day for the past week:
heliotropism, decimate, mnemonic, assemblage, panoramic, halcyon, mystique
2nd question of the week . I did not get anywhere near all of these words. Guess which ones I did get .

This is the beautiful story of two young men, Gray and Rafa, as told through the eyes of Gray.
They simply start off as  workmates who eventually become good friends
This happens because they both suffer an encounter, which leads to something unpleasant happening to both of them, but through there friendship they are able to overcome the encounter.
The story takes place over a few years, so expect the unexpected as you spend time with Rafa and Gray as there friendship develops into much more.
They will need the support of friends and family as there relationship develops, to overcome the encounter and the many problems and obstacles it causes them to suffer.
An amazing story with a great cast of characters, who all play there part in this amazing story.
Give it a read, you will not be disappointed.

    Weekly Wrap Up
It was a party of North America the past week  Well, we have to wait for Mexico in September.
Yes, Canada threw a party on Tuesday and the US of A had one on Friday. I have to admit, a Friday one sounds better  It was a weird work week. Work Monday, off Tuesday, and then back Wednesday to Friday. I woke up this morning thinking I had to go to work. Didn't take that long to get my head screwed on right and headed back to bed at 6 AM
So I had a hotdog to celebrate America's birthday yesterday. Then saw that crazy guy who I think ate 40.5 hotdogs in ten minutes on Coney Island . It takes me ten minutes to eat 1 hotdog. Guess I will probably live longer than him.
I was thinking about a question for the week, and there is a a video on the news and online that has been more or less proven not to be a hoax. It is of ball lightning in Alberta! So being true or not, you can google and see for yourself, but tell me your closest encounter(s) with lightning, or where you think you had a close encounter with lightning. I've often tell people I am the way I am, as I did get hit by lightening when I was 17. Does explain a lot, right?  So what about you? Any positively charged stories you want to share? Were you on a golf course hiding under a tree , I hope not! I wonder, is swimming in a lake really a hazard in a storm or is it like not eating an hour before going swimming, an old wives tale  I'm sure that will cause some comments
I'm a wee bit tired as it is the first weekend of Stampede  So a big Yahoo to you all.
Monday, Cia talked about it. Even though she shouldn't have, yet she did:
Tuesday Mry went a diving, and found some chuckles:
Then on Thursday, Val gave some ideas if you are struggling with Anthology Themes:
Last but not least, Val was back with a Celebration in the Prompt:

Now how did we all do on the Words of the Day?
disdain, concomitant, pedantic, connotation, superfluous, ludicrous, imminent

    Weekly Wrap Up
Wow, if I mess this up, it is all my fault. The past couple of weeks, I seem to be seeing double whenever I'm looking at a screen for more than an hour . I need to book an appointment with my optometrist and see if my eye sight has changed. I've worn glasses/contacts all my life, and believe it or not, over the past 5-6 years, my eyes keep getting better 😮 I'm told it has to do with controlling my blood sugar the best I have in 53 years . Thank gosh for insulin pumps.
Enough of my sob story . As I type with only 1 eye open, I'm going to be brief. Well that could be our question of the week . What kind of guys, or gals, are you? Boxers, Briefs, Boxer Briefs, Jocks, heck for Krista she wears granny panties (don't tell her I said anything ). I guess I'm asking for your preferred day to day undies, or, are you commando?  Just remember, no pictures  Google doesn't like that and we don't want to p.o. Google AdSense.
Just a quick disclaimer, that some might not know! GA does have a lot of costs to keep us up and running. With Myr being a prudent kind of guy with the site, and investing to keep us modern and up to date, we do have expenses like server costs, licensing, and we have a programmer that keeps the site and especially stories running smooth. We do have a great staff of volunteers from so many aspects of the site, we all work free to ensure it all works!!
Unlike other internet sites, GA is probably about 98% free to everyone every day of the week!! We do have our Premium members that help out immensely  I'm one myself  Just in order to keep the site free, we do need other revenue streams. That is where we signed up with Google AdSense. When you have a ad pop up now and then, yes it is probably a PITA (pain in the ass), but you are keeping GA free by tolerating them.  Unfortunately Google AdSense has some pretty strict guidelines to be a sponsor on our site. So if you get a note about a picture that isn't allowed, or a story having a rating changed, it is because we all are looking out for the site.  We really do appreciate that Google gives us warnings if they bots notice something, but too many warnings mean bye bye 😢
Oh, before I forget, I want to welcome back a few authors that GA has missed for quite awhile. I hope you get the chance to check them out! Both @LittleBuddhaTW as well as @Topher Lydon have an extensive collection on site and are posting new again!! Welcome back guys
Okay,so much for a short preamble, I got to get moving. I'm tying with one eye and getting a headache . Here is what happened at GA this week:
Tuesday, Myr lived up to a Deep Dive and went looking at this genre:
Wednesday, the sites newest meerkat with glasses, a goatee and an interesting haircut , came back for the big reveal on AGW? Did you guess right?
We had a little smaller week at GA this week, but I hope you all checked out Aditus's new prompts for all of you:

Myr was busy at it with the Words of the Day. I usually read all the comments and through a like to those that take the time to comment. Sorry, less reading is better tonight :
distinction, vexing, dappled, impaired, superlative, erroneous, amiss

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Howdy
No, not Stampede yet, but can't say howdy without the cowboy emoji
I kind of had a blah week the past week  for me. Wasn't bad, wasn't good, but we will take it. The alternative isn't so great🪦. Sunday through Thursday it was hot and dry and you couldn't see down the street due to the smoke from all the wildfires burning across the north of Canada👨‍🚒. I haven't really looked at the US of A, but I imagine they aren't too different. I heard that there is even some some smoke floating over to Ireland, Scotland and Wales 😮. Unfortunately this now seems the norm for the summers in Canada .
What about down under? You getting lots of rain? Since you are in fall and next week sliding into winter, hopefully you are out of wildfire season finally .
Busy week coming up, need to do some planning and take some actions regarding Christmas at work 🎄. Don't worry, doesn't involve knocking off Santa 🎅! Good time to remind everyone one coming up quickly on 6 months to decide on what you are sending me for Christmas .
Since it is Father's Day today, if you are a father or not, I really want you to post your worst dad joke below  You can hide the answer (by using the  in the editor bar) or not, your choice . So get us rolling with laughter or groaning in despair with your funnies
So we had a fairly busy week here at the GA News Blog. Only Saturday didn't have a new feature 😮 I'm hoping you got a chance to read them all and if not, here they are in the recap.
Monday, Parker Owens reviewed an author of an interesting story. Don't be fooled by the name , and maybe download it or use the wifi on the beach 😎
Onward to Tuesday. The big guy got scary by doing a Deep Dive in the Thriller/Suspense genre ☠️:
Shuffling on to Wednesday, it was a great day here at GA 🥳. Graeme got to introduce a brand new Signature Author to the site. Another Aussie:
Thursday had us all put on our thinking caps and see if we know by some interesting clues, who Aaron is talking to in the Author Guess Who:
Finally Friday arrived. This meant that we got a couple more prompts from Aditus. Make sure you check them out. Psst, I wonder if these had anything to do with Valkyrie having her 29th birthday the past week and Aditus missing it   🎂:

6 blogs in 7 days, as I count the Weekly Wrap Up as 1.
Myr had to outdo everyone again and brought us 7 Words of the Day. Believe it or not I only knew 2, thought I knew 5 :
consternation, dilemma, equivocate, pugnacious, progeny, lascivious, indulge

June is here, and that means we get our monthly fix from our Review Team. Check out this gem brought to us by Parker:

    The Jerk-Off
    by JLynch
    Reviewer: Parker Owens
    Status: Complete
    Word Count: 98,033
It’s summer.  You need a good beach read – you know, the kind of story that engages your attention so much that you wind up frying in the hot sun, and which entertains enough that you ignore the subsequent pain. GA author JLynch serves up just such a story in The Jerk-Off.
Set in the summer lake country of Minnesota, JLynch plunges us into the world of young Thayer Dunn, working his first job at a local establishment serving boaters and summer residents on Bay Lake. Thayer has just begun to grow through his adolescence, but he hasn’t gone unnoticed. JLynch uses this to establish connections for us. We get the perfect amount of detail to put the reader into a colorful, sunlit scene, and enough local gossip to plug us into the social web of the community. Before long, readers are introduced to a wide cast of vividly drawn characters, all of whom appear to have an interest in this unassuming, backwater lake town.
In the narrative that follows, JLynch weaves a brightly colored tapestry, letting each character tell us of the dreams and interests that motivates them, often in stark conflict with another. Issues of inheritance, money and power are all concentrated around the shining waters of Bay Lake, shimmering in the summer heat. When murder and violence erupt, Thayer Dunn is there on the periphery, observing events even as they intrude on his own adolescent world. What develops is an amusing swirl of adult mystery, adolescent discovery, and plenty of local color.
Often in summer romance novels, there appear to be formulaic steps that readers can tick off as they occur, one by one: an innocent aw-shucks moment, a first kiss, or a trip to the emergency room. Some of these ingredients are here, but everything is tinged with intrigue and charged with clandestine power plays. Thayer’s community seethes, but he’s on a different quest. What makes this story both believable and delightful is the way JLynch shows us that Thayer can be partly aware of matters going seriously awry in his hometown, while simultaneously living in the self-absorption of adolescence. Yet at the same time, the author lets us in on the lives of the adults in Thayer’s world, who seem pretty much as self-centered as he is.
As for those adults, their complex and convoluted worlds belie the sparkling simplicity of the lakeside setting. Vacation towns full of summer visitors enjoying themselves can still mask webs of intricate relationships. Each chapter further lets the reader into those webs and entertains us while unspooling the mystery of murder and motivation. And yes, like any summer beach read, there’s a healthy dose of sex written in, too.
So make sure your beach has access to internet signal, so you can binge read this engaging story by a capable GA author. Remember the sunblock, because once you get started, you’ll forget that your tan has turned cherry red.

    Weekly Wrap Up
I was doing up our Weekly Update this week and noticed I had a long hard slog ahead of me to recap all the blogs
Then I got thinking about my preamble and thinking I should do an equal long and labourious one.
So get ready, here we go.
    How was everybody's past week?
Let's check what happened in the past week on the GA News Blog.
Tuesday was the start of the week with a Deep Dive into the deepest part of our imaginations:

Friday, Val was in with a couple of new Prompts that seemed to have stimulated some discussion:

The one person who was hard at work was the big guy poring over a dictionary to find some Words of the Day:
frivolous, hubris, sneer, skimp, troglodyte, prod, resonate

    Weekly Wrap Up
There goes another month in the books! Can you believe you all have less than 7 months to get my Christmas Present mailed to me ? Unfortunately there might be another Canada Post strike here, so the sooner you get it in the mail, the better chance it will arrive here. This year !
I also can't believe it is still bright out at 9:40 PM my time. Dusk is like at 10:30 PM
What all did you get up to this past month, the sort of, kind of, transition month, from spring to summer? I managed to get out camping not once but twice this past month. The camping gods must have been smiling down on me as it was perfect weather. Not too hot, not too cold, dry, no mosquitos yet, and good times. Now here is a shocker for you. The friend I went camping with last weekend has been sober for 5 months, so I never took a drop with me . So reserve your judgement for another day .
What about upcoming plans? I guess I shouldn't be so north focused, what about my Australian and New Zealander folks as well as others down under? Any plans for this winter? Going surfing with the sharks ? Funny how I can lump everyone in the southern hemisphere to what I picture as South African activities  Shame on me.
Oh, I was told not to say anything, but I will say it anyways  We had an Signature Author that contributed last week, but his poem never made it into the Weekly Wrap Up. So know that the first Signature 'chapter' listing below was his. If you know of anyone else, or yours, that might have been missed last week with the technical glitch, let me know and I will work you into a future Wrap Up. We have to give credit where credit is due .
    Now onto the Wrap Up...
Monday, what happened Monday?  Oh, Cia was by with the CSR Discussion Day! It was another one that was nailed out of the park ⚾!
Tuesday, Myr traded in his hockey skates and stick and didn't watch the final game of the Stanley Cup playoffs semi finals, to do another Deep Dive:
Go figure, from hockey fights to Romance --> 💖
Thursday, Valkyrie came by to get us all excited, then threw a touchdown 🏈 and gave us a feature of upcoming Anthology and writing contests:
Friday, everyone's favourite wolf came in with an overtime free kick to tell us about this week's Prompts ⚽:

Think of the Words of the Day like 7 pin bowling  Did you get a full strike, a spare or something less? Remember if you got a strike, then points you get next week get added to this weeks score 🎳:
wizened, vitality, hoodwink, scathing, diligent, heinous, anesthesia
